I dont think anybody has said "they dont matter". Straw man gonna straw man.

We are saying the top 10-12 are the same ****ing teams every year
What people are saying is that the difference in being 13th and 25th is pretty small.
People are also saying that Mississippi kids seem to be undervalued quite often

Nobody is lobbying for us to be 40th every year- but we are saying this is not as bad as some people try to make it out to be.
We fully expect to be back around 20th next year

Recruiting rankings matter very much for the 5 star teams, but the difference between the 4 star teams and the 3 star teams in very minimal and it comes down to talent evaluation.

Basically, recruiting rankings are like a bell curve. It matters at the extremes. If you recruit all 5 star you will probably be in the national title hunt, and if you recruit like USM, you will not.

But for the teams in the 3 star/4 star range, they have chance to beat each other in most games, and it matters much more who your QB is than what your recruiting ranking was.
