Only two five stars on All SEC this year

They matter. What would be an interesting analysis: % of 5* vs 4* vs 3* etc that were starters in yrs 2-3, All-sec, AA, etc....

Stars are part of the equation- not the whole equation

I agree 100%.... but, talent is a good base point from which to begin.

Hell, the talent bought under mike dubose was some of the best ever and the dumbass pissed it away.

Im not saying u can't win a few games with lesser talent, you absolutely can with proper eval, coaching and development. ...

Heck, per aj mccarron, too many 5* s HURT Bammer this past yr.

Sorry for the ramble. ..on cell and half drunk.

This is true, along with the fact that 5* status doesn't automatically mean you're talented, and 2* status doesn't mean you're not.

Not only are different kids coached and developed differently, and not only do different kids have different attitudes and work ethics, but sometimes a recruiting service (and coaches) just miss on a kid.

Sometimes, a kid has a ton of natural talent but is a 240-lb OT and isn't rated highly. Sometimes a kid hasn't played football very long but has a ton of talent. And sometimes they are a 5'11" QB and everyone just assumes they can't play at the next level, despite having a crap ton of talent.

And sometimes a really well-coached kid has reached his ceiling and is dominating in HS but doesn't have much left in the tank when moving to the next level and isn't quite as purely talented as he appeared.

But yes, you typically want more 5*s and less 2*s on average. Just saying that sometimes it isn't all about coaching, development, and attitude, either. I'd say Russell Wilson isn't a 2* who got by on hard work. I'd say he's a 5* talent.

Which is why the general fan base should trust the coaching staff who does the evaluating more.

Just because a coach is going after a two star or is not going after a five doesn't mean he is not going after the right kids.

Ain't about the size of the dawg in the fight but the size of the fight in the dawg.
