Yeah, I'll never understand what is going on with the SEC in basketball. Seemingly really good coaches come in and just tank completely. Look at Mark Fox at UGA.

But then there UGA is, at 4-1 in the conference. Texas A&M doing well...but Missouri struggling in this weak conference.

I don't get it.

Why would Arkansas be good at basketball?

I understand that they have a good tradition and money, but Arkansas is not exactly located amid a hotbed of basketball talent. Once they lost their momentum from the Nolan Richardson years, it always seemed unrealistic to me to expect them to be able to recover it easily. Like most programs, they need to make an exceptional hire or catch lightning in a bottle on the talent available to them.

My point is that they seemingly did make an exceptional hire, and he's been recruiting really well. Yet he's struggling in a big way. And that's happened several times before in the SEC. Just strange.

Indeed. It's a head-scratcher.

Mike Anderson's style is uptempo, high pressure, and run you out of the gym, right? That's the style I feel would be the most successful with southern athletes. True basketball players aren't plentiful here, but athletes are. Strange that he wouldn't do well in the conference.

Regardless of what is going on, the SEC basketball product is pure garbage. It's painful to watch.

Arkansas basketball is much more than a few years under Nolan Richardson. That said, I don't understand their struggles under Anderson. They are recruiting some pretty elite talent. They certainly won't be patient up there though -- although Richardson also missed the tourney his first 2 years up there and went 19-14(8-8) in year 2. I think Anderson only gets one more year to be in the NCAA tourney...or else...
