dedicated ST coach, and that may be the best route to go, how does Dan fix our kicking situation? I can handle not having the range of some of our better ones. I can handle some misses - but knowing even 25 yard shots are going up with our stomachs in our throats and fingers crossed is unacceptable. Do we send these guys to kicking camps similar to the Manning passing school? Are these kicking consultants an option? Would chaining them in a barn and not feeding them be over the top?

Seriously would like to hear how this situation can get fixed by next fall. To go to 9 wins or higher we will need to make consistent points in our kicking game. Last minute or just throughout the damn game (Auburn last year).

Thanks for the opinions.

So, you are going to either kick it through those poles there or your foot goes in this wood chipper....

If we don't get a designated ST coach the only thing I can think of would be to have a GA that strictly focuses on ST. Our ST need a complete overhaul.

A prime example that Dan has no clue what he is doing with ST is having Robert Johnson on kick return. Nothing against RJ, but he is a phyiscal possession reciver. Jameon has big play ability, but he is also a complete liability on punt return, not to mention that we were dead last in average punt return yardaage. I think we have decent specialist, but they are all head cases.

Serious question, did Devon Bell cost us more point than he actually scored? Between blocked punts and missed field goals he probably did or was at least close.

You can't improve ST's by just having a coach dedicated to special teams. You have to have a coach who KNOWS ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS dedicated to special teams. A GA does no good. Putting Sallach in charge does no good. Mullen needs to swallow his pride and hire a special teams coach. If he doesn't, then we won't improve.

And a special team coach doesn't help a head case kicker either. You can tell bell is a head case on fgs because he never plants his left foot the same distance from the ball. He either rushes his motion or to slow through the ball. Hence the reason for his issues.

There's a lot more involved with special teams than just FG's. But yes, a good ST coach could help with any fundamental flaws such as foot placement that Bell may have.
