We better be glad we got to shoot so damn many today because we missed a ton. 66% Free Throw shooting is pretty horrid.

Just looked it up and it appears that we shoot 65% FT on the season. Not going to win many like that. We are currently ranked 12th in the conference.

Yep. And I think Sword was like 9 of 10 or 11 of 12 today. He usually isn't that good at free throws, so it could have been much worse. Gotta hand it to him, IJ, and Borchert today though...they all hit key free throws down the stretch

This can partially be solved by IJ Ready getting more PT and getting to the FT line more. I know he's small but he's GOT to get to the FT line more. He's only shot 8 this year, but he's made all 8. He's got a great first step and he needs to utilize it more to either get himself to the rim or draw a big man so Ware and Borchert and Roq can get an easy shot.

Sword was a beast today getting to the line and making them (15-18 from the FT line), but outside of him, Roq is gonna Roq and and Ware is gonna Ware. We need to get Ready to the line more and Borchert has to be more aggressive inside. He's 26-30 on the year from the FT line which for a guy with size it's insane that he's only taken 30 FTs this year.

Sword was 15-18. I wonder what the rest of the team shot if you took him out.

Wow, didn't realize he shot 18. Thanks for that correction. What a day from the line for him

Roq went to the line 12 times today. Only made 6, but his athleticism is going to allow him to have games like this where he gets opportunities at the basket but has to make his living at the FT line when he gets hacked. Hell he had 20 points today and lead the team. We need him to get better at finishing and at hitting FTs. He easily left 7 points on the court today from missed chip shots getting fouled and missed FTs.

He didn't even score from the floor. He had an 0fer and still had 15 points for the game. That's a crazy stat line. And he probably shoulda had a few more ft's but the officials reverted back to last year in the last 3 to 4 minutes of the game. On both sides thank goodness

Nothing new at State- Stands teams shot 67% or worse 10 of his 14 years

Yea, I may be wrong but I think he hit 14 in a row. Believe he was 0-2 and then hit his next 14 in a row before missing and then making his last one. But as a team 2 things we could work on that would really help us out is free throw shooting and PUTTING A BODY ON SOMEBODY WHEN THE OPPOSING TEAM SHOOTS THE BALL. Dang, I know its been a long time since I played HS basketball but has the art of actually blocking out someone on a rebound just been tossed to the wind?

Sword has tucked in his elbow the last two games and you see the results. Now if he can somehow translate those mechanics into his regular shooting he'd be unstoppable.

To me, it looked like the OM strategy was to capitalize on our poor free throw shooting by fouling us every time we got to the rack instead of letting us have an easy bucket. Make us earn every point. It wasn't a terrible strategy, but what they should have done was play a very packed in zone and force us to shoot from outside the paint. I swear, if I was playing against us, I would put all 5 guys in a box around the lane and allow us to shoot freely outside of the paint. We wouldn't score 15 points! I'm joking (kind of), but AK is not a good coach, and that makes me laugh because he's one of their best evah

Getting to the line that much more than your opponent shows which team takes it to the rim and it was our game plan to do that and entry pass to Gavin Ware.
They have better shooters than us but we gutted it out and forced turnovers too.

I think Ray out coached Kennedy today.

Sword getting 7 steals and the team total getting 11 allows us to get out in fast break and play to our strength. We caused 16 turnovers today and 11 of them were steals. That's game plan and proper use of athletic talent right there. We were on the attack for most of the game on defense and that is when we are at our best. Ray has made us into a scrappy bunch. We are rough around the edges, but we play hard, we find ways to make plays, and we play very good defense. If we can keep the turnovers low like we did today and slow the game down by attacking the basket and getting to the FT line, we can come away with 7-9 wins in conference.

Sounds exactly how TCU beat us so soundly.

They did that early in the game but when Borchert started hitting threes they couldn't do it. That is why they started out so well. They were triple and quadruple teaming Ware and packing the zone tightly.

That is why it's imperative for Thomas and Borchert to start hitting more threes consistently. When they hit shots, we not only win but can build a big lead. When they don't, we lose big leads. One of those guys has to be in there at all times for at least the threat of the three. There were times out on the court today that we had five on the court with no outside threat which is why we struggled.

We also need for Ready to average 30 minutes a game. That kid is a star in the making. We need him to start eating more minutes that would go to Bloodman...

We played like shit against TCU and Ready didn't play much. Borchert and Thomas were nonexistent that game.
