So, what if....

Strong goes to Texas
Hudspeth to Louisville
Golden to PSU
Mullen to Miami with Collins in tow

You're the AD, 15 Jan dead period ends....what do you do?

Petrino?
Franklin?
Schiano?
Felker, the second return of the legend?
Mack Brown?

Don't want the drama with Petrino.
Slive won't let Franklin be taken by another SEC school.
Felker: We saw what happened last time we rehired a coach (Polk)
Mack: Done with football. Only one to see is Schiano.

I would take Petrino in a heartbeat in that scenario

We did, and I am in no way wishing for him, just conversation. I would buy blonde hookers for Petrino in two seconds. Also would need a new DC.

Slightly off topic..

I'm not sure at this point Hud is a sexy enough hire for Louisville in their eyes.

Petrino to Louisville?

If this scenario came to fruition, then we might as well go after Urban Meyer. We have just as good of a chance to steal Urban as these other things do of happening.

Where's Major Applewhite nowadays? He was one of the top assistants in the country a few years ago. The most obvious name missing here is Chad Morris at Clemson. Get the man paid.

It follows him everywhere he goes. First, he doesn't recruit well. Regardless of how much we won, there would be a segment of our fanbase that was always pissed we recruited so poorly. He would absolutely be a step down from what we've been doing the last several years.

Second, he will almost certainly leave you before his tenure goes very long. And when he does inevitably leave, he will leave behind a below-average collection of talent tailored to an offensive scheme that really doesn't fit what the new coach is inevitably going to want to do, since nobody else really runs exactly what Petrino does.

Third, he will probably do something crappy to the school/program that will make everyone hate him.

This has happened everywhere he's been. Look at Louisville after he left. Look at his one year with the Falcons. Look at Arkansas after he left. He is a good coach to have a fun 2- or 3-year run with. He is a horrible coach if you want your program to have a solid foundation and a positive outlook for the long-term.

I know it's hypothetical but I don't think Mullen would leave here for Miami at this time.

And I'd rather have a proven hc over an assistant.

Curtis Johnson at Tulane. Most realistic coach that we could get and probably best coach with no extra baggage. Obviously Petrino is the best, but I don't see him resonating well with the fan base in the deep South. He knows the South and knows how to recruit in the South. Plus he has a Super Bowl ring so that could only help.

He may have coached in the South, but that doesn't mean he knows how to recruit it. We would all roll our eyes at his recruiting here; it would be awful.

He would not do well in MS, especially not competing against Freeze, and we saw at Arkansas that even while winning double-digit games in the SEC, he's not going to bring in great talent.

Jim Leavitt the former USF coach that brought them from not even having a football team all the way to #2 in the BCS. He's the LB coach for the 49ers. The guy was a stud at USF. Bama offered him the job before Saban. Look him up. He deserves another shot. He didn't get fired because USF sucked. He got fired for allegedly striking a player I believe. He'd be a total STEAL.

Thanks to Dak, Mullen ain't going nowhere. You don't leave a 3 million dollar job with superstar QB, for an equal paying job and no current QB.

Just like Manziel did for Sumlin, Dak can make Mullen a boat load of money in two years.

Kingsbury from TX Tech would wreak havoc in the AEC with our offensive players coming back. Be like having mikebLeach without the baggage. Just need to retain Collins or find a very close equal.

This. Dak will do awesome things for us next season. Let's just enjoy it. Dak saved Dan's reputation (I won't say Job) this year when he came in and we won the Egg Bowl. I see a helluva two year run for us with the Dak Knight at the helm. '98-'99 all over again.

Idk but I'm sure we could find out. What he did at USF was a minor miracle. Zero football program all the way to #2 in the nation.

Kingsbury is not an option, period. Not only did he play at Texas Tech, he is one of the most well-loved players they've ever had and he loves them just as much.

Imagine if Anthony Dixon were our head coach. Would he leave us? Maybe for an elite job, but even then, probably not. Absolutely no chance he'd leave for a program of our stature, and Kingsbury is the same for Texas Tech.

He STARTED that football program. Meaning in 1996 they didn't play a single game of football. I'd say a 95-57 record is pretty damn impressive. In 8 of their first 9 seasons as a 1-A school they had a .500 or better record. He took them to a bowl game every single season when they joined the Big East. 5 in a row.

That might be a way to bring Freezus' piccadillos to light and expose his snake oil salesman routine for what it is. Then again, that would leave Freezus the opporitunity to pull a Jim Baker "I have sinned" act and make his phony bologna, plastic banana act that much stronger.

Freeze allegedly has a past as well. My point is if Freeze started pointing fingers and throwing stones a Petrino, then some ghosts of his pasts may pay him a visit.
