Ah yes! It is still too soon to look at RPI but in a couple of weeks it will be time to pay attention to the metric! MSU is trending well at #6 and of course being a SEC team we will likely maintain that as long as we win. Missouri State on the other hand not quite as sold on as an example of why we can't pay attention to it too much quite yet although beating Arkansas certainly helps them and maybe hurt us slightly. And yes, MSU did play Grambling but any "damage" was minimal as usual as long as you win the game. We have a stretch coming up where MSU has 7 games against top 50 RPI teams so we can potentially rack up some Q1 and Q2 wins if we play well as Georgia currently has a RPI of 39, UAB at 42, and Tennessee at 43 are all up the next couple of weeks.

First up of course is the Georgia Bulldogs and I expect this to be a pretty intense series based on how Georgia typically plays with a lot of emotion and the fact that Will Coggin and Wes Johnson have ties to MSU and I'm sure they would love to win this series. Well, we all remember the Johnny Long incident a couple of years ago as exhibit A. Let's hope things don't get THAT out of hand though as I don't want to see Tico playing LF for us ever or taking the last AB of a game like Khal Stephen did a couple of years ago.

I would love to keep our winning streak alive but the reality is Georgia is pretty good as they have the second best offense in the SEC with Texas A&M behind MSU and they are the top fielding team in the SEC whereas MSU is fourth. Wes Johnson is a great pitching coach IMO but surprisingly to me they are 10th in the SEC in pitching while MSU is third. It's going to be a bit fascinating to see if Georgia's power plays on the road like it does in Athens. Also, has Chuck Foster turned a corner? As far as offense goes, I know BOC was not happy with the strikeouts against Grambling. I would not be surprised if the team responds with some really good AB's like we are accustomed to seeing. When will Jack Bauer be unleashed on the SEC?

As it is, some regional projections have come out and they all project MSU to be a National Seed. And as you can see from a RPI standpoint this is justified. We sit at 7 SEC wins. I still believe that 17 should easily get us a host but I'm also starting to think that 16 might even be enough to host a regional as long as we win our OOC games including the Governor's Cup. So, we have 21 games left in the SEC and if we go 10-11 the rest of the season we're hosting easily. But, let's talk National Seed as that is a realistic goal for this team. IMO, 19 will get us the National Seed and 18 probably puts us on the bubble. So, if MSU goes a very doable 12-9 the rest of the way in the SEC and wins the Governor's Cup that would give them the 19 wins. And I think that is also very doable especially given that MSU has 12 home SEC games and only 9 on the road left.

Now, Georgia is also 7-2 and they are tied with MSU and Texas for the SEC lead. So, this series has major implications on the SEC title obviously. If MSU wins this series and it appears as if winning the SEC may be potentially something this team could accomplish I will talk a little more in depth about that next week if it looks like it's something realistic for this team to do. Georgia is a very good team but since it's in Starkville I will be very pleased if we win the series. If we sweep I will be ecstatic. Probably not as ecstatic as I was when MSU beat Ole Miss but I'll be very happy wearing my Easter Sunday best at church and being thankful that I don't have to wear one of those sailor looking outfits that women like to dress little boys in for Easter. Seriously, those are terrible.

Anyway, Happy Easter! Hail State! But most importantly Christ is Risen!

They have played 4 games away from Georgia- hitting 14 HR's in those games.

Their Friday/Sat pitching has been pretty good and are 5-1 in those games. Sunday? They have given up 32 runs in 3 Sunday SEC games
