NIL/Portal has hurt the blue bloods too. Look at Alabama football.

All that matters is NIL budget, roster construction, and a good coach.

What doesnt matter is everything else. Particularly high school recruiting and player development.

Portal evaluation is a close second to NIL budget in basketball. There are a lot of good players out there. Ive also been really impressed with a lot of the coaching like Iowa, Iowa State, St Louis etc. These teams cant have huge NIL budgets.

Good coaching and players that are hungry and some talent will get you a lot. Iowa was hungry, UF was not.

Basketball ain't just who has most money. Honestly I don't think any sport is. It doesn't hurt but it isn't the silver bullet to winning so many preach.

In basketball- the money is more leveled unlike football/baseball. Teams like VCU and other mid-majors can spend money because they make so much in basketball. They dont have the expenses of the other sports the big dawgs do.

And we saw this season- you have to have a team that meshes well. Ours obviously did not. So there will def be more up and down in basketball than the other sports

There are still alot of blue bloods in the sweet 16 though. Kansas and UK are traditional blue bloods but neither have been great recently. Arizona, Duke, Houston, Michigan, Michigan State, Uconn are all still alive. You can even throw St John's and Rick Pitino in there too because he is HOF coach himself.

Yes the NIL and the portal have changed the game alot, but at the end of the day coaching and recruiting win games. As great as the portal is you have to properly evaluate talent and what works for your program and Jans hasn't done a great job in that department.

Highpoint was a couple of 3's either way(they hit or Arkansas miss), from taking that game.
Arkansas spent $$

High Point has a really good coach in Flynn Clayman. You can tell the way he coaches and their scheme that he is a fantastic coach. If Jans has another bad year he would be near the top of my list along with Bob Richey. I think Richey has turned down bigger jobs over the years to stay at Furman because his wife and kids love it there so not sure that would be an option.
