View Full Version : Would It Have Made Any Difference If We Had Kept Murphy and Nwoko?

MSU - Terrible Year

LSU - Worse

AU - Big $ spent, one game above .500 and no NCAA bid received or deserved.

In my opinion, Murphy would have brought more scoring and rebounding, and perhaps Nwoko a much-needed inside presence, especially on defense, and added scoring.

Was their departure $, didn't want to play for Jans any longer or a combination of both?

Hell yeah, that woulda made a difference.

From what I've heard, we matched auburn's offer for Murphy. I'm sure he wanted to play at home for a legend though... if Bruce hadn't deceived everyone, we might have kept Murphy.

Don't know on nwoko, but I'd try and get him back this time

Keeping Murphy would definitely have made a noticeable difference but the biggest loss to the team was Cam Matthews. Glue guy

What do you mean? We had Shawn Jones trying to play the same damn role....

Nwoko / Murphy / Kugel for Ballard / Epps / Jones and were a sweet 16 team.

Not sure about that sweet 16 dream, but we would have made the tournament and maybe even won a first round game….progress

Sad this is what we're left with to talk about.

If , and if, they stuck together here instead of going to failing teams, this team would have been cohesive with the right parts to work together.

When I saw Jans trot Jones out as a starter in game one (and most others), I knew this team and the season were in big trouble. Having him on the court had us playing 4 on 5 when we were on offense, but he "made plays that don't show up in the stats". We need players who show up in the stat lines. We also need to stop trying to build a team around a volume shooter who is a tremendous liability on defense. He needs to be a big part of of a "team" of five players of which others have a chance to shine also.

And who exactly on this team didn't get a chance to shine?

Epps? He scored right around his career average.

Ballard? Who was our softest and most non agressive post player since Marcus Campbell

McGhee? Who'd do one thing right and immediately have a foul and 2 TOs in the next two possessions.

Achor? Who had one good game in about 30

I mean do you really think Hubbard wanted to shoot 30 times a game and have to score 40 for us to have a chance most nights?

Speaking of Murphy, he didn't show up for practice yesterday, so he won't play tonight.

Kid got his feelings hurt that we were not going to overpay for him(which we ended up offering exactly what he wanted), goes to Auburn on bad advice when sensible people were telling him Pearl was 50/50 whether he was coaching this year, an in the process ruins our season and his basketball career.

If he stays he probably averages 15 and 8, we are able to pair him with a traditional 5(and we would not have had to overpay for Ballard), and we are able to focus on other positions instead of having to fill his spot for half the portal period. Oh and we would be playing on Thursday or Friday as probably a 7 seed.
