Miss. State's women's team doesn't appear to currently have the ideal game ready players for this Fred Castro offense. Need the right players for this type system (appears an offshoot of so-called "functional fast'") and/or tweak it. Has been proven that you can have good success with this offense but need the right players, including atleast one or two really explosive scoring guards/shooters in the lineup and other good shooters to compliment. They may litterally need to get with Mike Neighbors during the off season regarding personell for this system though Castro himself should definitely have solid enough insight on this matter to make significant adjustments. Also, lack of size in the post and no post rim protector besides Madison Francis (These teams that are in the upper half of the SEC have 6-4, 6-5 plus post presence and protect the rim. They all have really good point guards and atleast one guard capable of putting up 30 or more points on any given game. Have solid coaching and understanding of how to put teams together that can compete in the SEC..including at the least solid NIL resources. Also, some of these teams are good at developing players even on the short term). Additionally Miss. State's defense is fairly bad in multiple key areas including transition defense. Despite this type stuff the team has had some flashes of success and competiveness in SEC play but have faded coming down the final stretch of the season..with things looking slim for the NCAA Tourney but not impossible. Beyond this still see upside if Coach Purcell can retain players and add the right key pieces, also development of retained players, make the needed improvements and adjustments, ect. Defensive drills (including footwork) during summer workouts, mental toughness, stamina to play harder for longer as well. Again, need to continue developing the returnees. Never give up, never let the haters get the best of you. Same way in non basketball life.
