Nunnallee is the perfect leadoff hitter. Great bat to ball skills, doesn't strike out, can work a count and get on base.

Yeah. This is the time to do it. Better to find out now than against Arkansas in four weeks. You have to know what you have. I do hope we start to see some adjustments starting this weekend some.

We need to see Pitzer and Logar pitch.
Troy has ok players, good contest. Some pitchers used today would be killed in the SEC however. Kirk and Bauer will have better days. With Foster included, Parker has lots of players to develop.
I hope he is not forgotten, I think Sullivan is more effective as a pitcher today, than some guys pitching right now. Sullivan can give you two good innings in Oxford, Tuscaloosa, Hattiesburg, or Baton Rouge without wigging out or giving up 9 runs. Kid is a cool customer.
V Valincius is a factor. Bevis, Chance, and Parker have competition for corner OF.
Chone Davis is a 500% upgrade on Highfill. This dude is diving for balls and preventing wild pitches like crazy. Highfill would have allowed 4 pass balls and 6 wild pitches today. Not to mention that James can actually hit too.

If Stone keeps pitching like this, he is starting against UCLA. Going to be fascinating to see how Foster responds against Delaware because honestly, to me it just seemed like he had a bad start. We'll see if he adjusts. Billingsley is looking like a midweek only guy to me. Gleason has been a very pleasant surprise. Kirk looked really good for an inning or so again. He's in the same boat a Bauer as far as development goes really. Bauer was awesome for an inning. I think that's his limit for us right now though. He can help us for one inning at a time and as he develops he'll be able to go a little longer. Usually, I think he was only throwing 2 innings at a time in high school. His command will get better as he gets stronger physically. All he really gave up was an infield single and two of the walks were on full counts. The pitch clock violations were probably as much of an issue as anything. Once he cleans up some things he will be All American as long as he stays healthy. Webb did a good job again.
Chone is hitting well but needs to improve his defense some. I think it's only a matter if time before Milewski takes the job honestly. If I were MSU I would consider looking at Vyatas at 1B some if he play there. Bevis hit better and that was good to see and we have Reed hopefully back soon. Frei is doing a good job at second but left some runners on base. Ace was the story almost getting a cycle. He's really leading on the field and is locked in. Ryder Woodson had a double and his batting average will start to tick up as the season goes along. You could say the same for Teel and Nunnalee. The numbers will be there at the end of the year when it's all said and done. Good to get Jacob Parker in at DH and get his feet wet and see what he can do as well.
Biggest complaint- 10 K's and only 3 walks. Now the good. We gave Noah Sullivan the night off and let one of our hottest hitters rest in Reed Stallman and we scored 13 runs off of a team that threw at least 2- maybe 3 guys that they got out of the portal from SEC teams. We had 8 extra base hits and we stole four bases. The other good thing is ZERO errors. I think that is three out of our first four games. And the pitching staff had 12 K's with only 4 walks. 3 by Bauer making his debut when we maybe overextended him a little bit trying to see what we have. And this is a Troy team that wanted to beat us pretty bad. Good win. Gotta take care of business tomorrow against Alcorn. I'm guessing we'll start Miller, Rhodes, or Pitzer. I'm expecting all three to pitch tomorrow at least.

This team isn't where it's going to be yet and has some things to work on. And they are way better than last year.

And can you imagine later in the year being an opponent and you have to face Ben Davis in the 7th and 8th and then we trot out Bauer for the 9th for one inning? Then we have Sweeney and Webb. And if we get Dane Burns right....yikes.

Bauer is not coming out in a game that matters in the 9th inning this season
Vyta Val is in competition with Beans. He is not in competition with Stallman/Bevis. So is Parker. I dont think Beans keeps the job by late April. Too much talent to overcome for a guy that throws like a girl.
Sullivan will likely pitch against Alcorn because that is where he is currently in the pitching heirarchy. Billingsley dropped today after not responding. He has the arm but not the location with pitches.

Dude he’s not ready for prime time, far from it. The potential is huge but he’s a nightmare for a catcher, you really don’t know where it’s going yet. But he’s pushing 100 and smooth. The fastball is moving more now that they have throttled him back some and the slider is getting better. Just a long way to go yet, next year, wow.

In Baton Rouge, in high leverage relief, Bauer would mash Curiel with 103 to the face and the next Chicken Tender Whore with 102 to the ankle.
Wouldn't be fair to Bauer would give the young kid a negative experience.
Bauer will be great in time, today BOC has very good sophomores and juniors to manage short term business.

Pitching Sullivan against Alcorn would be a waste. We need to get the other freshmen innings and we have a couple of other pitchers who haven't thrown yet. Maybe if we're up 15-0 in the 7th inning and after everyone else has thrown then maybe.

Just saying...
Collegiate pitching rides seven to eight arms. Dudes emerge and develop. Some dude emerge during the season.
If Delaware was a Super Regional
Today: (1) Val (2) McP (3) Ben (4) Duke (5) Webb (6) Sweeney (7) Burns (8) Foster/Gleason
We haven't seen Pitzer, Logar, and Foster had a bad inning. A couple of dudes that start today might be a long relief. Other dudes look like inning guys, they turn to pumpkins after 4 at-bats.
Collegiate long relief is glam, not a demotion. The issue is that SEC ugly starts put the team behind and will generate Losses. Instead of winning 18 SEC games, you will only win 15. No National seed and probably no hosted regional.

That's why Lemonis isn't our coach anymore at least in part. This is the time of the year to tinker with the lineup and figure out what you have. Lemonis probably manages tonight completely differently and I am pretty sure we would have lost at least one game to Hofstra. Lemonis wouldn't have made adjustments until after about 2-3 weeks into the SEC season and by that time we're off to a 1-5 start with a team that makes a lot of errors on defense and the basepaths.
Duke Stone for example. We have seen him in relief and also as a starter now. I think we have a good idea that he is probably better as a starter. And Chance and Sullivan would have definitely started tonight under the last staff. Instead, we found out that Vytas can probably help us out and we got Jacob Parker some at bats. Last time this year remember Gehrig Frei barely played at all. And I know we still haven't gotten everyone in yet but I have a feeling that probably changes tomorrow.
The management is night and day better and it's going to pay off later down the road because we won't have as many bad OOC losses and we won't start SEC play 1-5 or 1-8.

They've all played and pitched since before then most likely. You don't go into Baton Rouge or any SEC series thinking I've got to get him in every possible opportunity. That's complete mismanagement of the player and season. He is all over the place right now, as he gets better control he will get better and more opportunities. I like how BOC is handling him right now.

Agreed. Bauer is going to be great if he stays healthy. You never know how a kid will develop and the talent is obvious.. but right now I think BOC is using him the right way. Give him a couple innings in out of conference games to get comfortable. By the end of the year he might be the guy you go to.. never know.
