You're paid to play basketball. Not watch your opponent play basketball and aid them in that endeavor.

Take this school's jersey off if that's how you get of the bus. You are a bad representative of this college.

Whoa, wait a minute. We've been lectured over and over, spend money and win. Its automatic. No it isn't and there are a boat load of schools that in same boat.

This NIL BS is just players get filthy rich while donors get poorer. Nothing else changes, 50% of teams will lose today regardless of money spent.

Yep. And we're not even halfway through the conference schedule. Just pathetic.

The makeup of all these teams now will be quit when things go wrong because everyone is just playing for themselves and the money. They are all looking at next schools now. They will blame coaching, MSU and team mates for why this year went bad.

Yep, once this team lost to OM at home I believe they decided to mail it in. Not that they were worth much even before that. Should have known Jans would never work out long term given John Cohen hired him.

32 point loss at home. To Vandy. Surely we as fans are building treasures in heaven for this suffering.

I know I am a living contradiction right now, but we could just NOT discuss, thread or support basketball going forward and put our message board discussions on 50% football and 50% baseball. The Women?s basketball team will be outdrawing the men?s team going forward too. Bye Bye Jans and take your entire staff with you!

Yea I agree if he doesn’t perform next year it’s time to move on but he definitely will get 1 more year. I really thought Jans would do better than he has so far since we hired him. The first two years were really positive too given what was handed to him. Last year he underachieved and was the year we should have been a 4 or 5 seed but messed that up and this year speaks for itself.

No reason to trust Jans with portal evaluations. Sure, he gets another year, but someone else needs to pick the team.

If this is our position, you should go ahead and fire him. I mean, a college coach is paid to put a team together and coach it.

Jans needs to go the Cigneti route

Older players
Fundamentally sound

And a couple 3 pt specialist

Last year Jans had the right idea. That team was closed he blew it this year.

I got my eye on Bob Richey if Jans doesn’t make the tournament next year, but I feel like someone with snatch him up this year. Although he turned some bigger programs down the last 2 years to stay at Furman so he might not even be an option for us or any program on our level.

Same ol? same ol?! Give a weak coach another year after a complete failure just because he made the first round of a 68 team tourney.

We have met the enemy and He is Us!

I mean we can’t just fire a coach for 1 bad year. He has had 3 solid years when looking at our basketball program overall. Not great but solid. Now I will agree we have to get rid of him if we don’t make the tournament next year

Sure we can! Why is making a 68 team tourney (barely 2 of the 3 years) a reason for keeping a coach who has proved he couldn?t replace the guys that got the team there? Go look at the rosters of the 3 teams that made it! A lot of same players all 3 years. This year: 2 players who were on any of those rosters and one 4 year player who couldn?t throw it in the ocean from the beach and a high scorer because he takes 1/3 of the teams shots! COACHING and Evaluation issues abound!

Disagree. Its professional sports now. This is how its done in the NBA.

Yeah, the issue is becoming more and more complex. You saw it early on with NIL. Promise of money not delivered and they sit out. Our new back up QB went through that. NOW, we are seeing players who get paid slack and then transfer for a bigger payday.

And Coach Cal fully nailed it when he was asked about Baylor bringing in a pro player. It's not a sustainable future. The ones hurt the most are HS players because of the lack of rules. He said he hated what's happening, but coaches are on the hot seat because of NIL. So it's hard to blame them for it. Either play the game, or be fired.

We talk so nicely about our coaches and players. We say oh a coach had winning seasons and BARELY made the tournament then went one and done. Then we praise players because either they actually came to MSU or stuck around for more than one year. Yet this coach is getting boat loads of money to put a team on the court that does not get repeatedly and just get completely embarrassed on their home court. We have players getting paid lots of money to be at the very least competitive.

Oh but we can’t do this and we can’t do that. These coaches don’t own our university nor do the players. We the fans/alumni own our university. We can and should demand at least a competitive team. With the amount of money flowing to coaches and players imo the firing of coaches should be on a much shorter fuse.

Don’t give me the crap excuse if we fire a coach after 3 straight tourney appearances with not one win in the tourney that no coach will want to come here. That is just being scared to at least try to get someone to coach that doesn’t get blow out on home court.

Great job? Eh, he's never had a winning record in the SEC, and is 26-35 in conference which is a .426 clip. Howland had two winning SEC years and a.500 and had a .459 clip in the SEC for his years here. Did we think Howland was great? Jans isn't and never was great. He is adequate and is pretty highly paid to be so. He needs to get this shite fixed.

I would say he has done a pretty good job. He has made the tourney 3 straight years which is commendable but he has yet to win a game in the NCAA tournament and has yet to reach .500 in the SEC in any of his seasons as our HC. Now I know the SEC has been tough but to go from being just competitive in the SEC (8 wins max in an 18 game schedule) to the mess we have this year is highly concerning. I have no problem with him getting another year to fix it but until he can have a winning record in the SEC, I don't see how we can call it a great year.

Used to not having a great year in pretty much any sport in the SEC? Oh yeah, Im so used to that Im losing interest. Amazes me that folks are upset about our funding of baseball when that's really the only sport we have any hope left in at this point. We suck at pretty much everything else.

We are middle of the pack NIL in basketball so we should be middle of pack at the end of the season. Jan and staff just did a poor job of putting this team together. If we keep Hubbard? Our other Guard needs to be 6’3 or so. We can’t have two midgets at Guards next year.
