Miss. State women's basketball has improved a lot since the loss to undefeated Texas Tech who knocked off Baylor last night. Remember Miss. State was in the process of blowing out Texas Tech before going into collapse mode. Earlier in the season Miss. State was going into these bipolar like states where they would look dominant in games then all of a sudden go totally polar opposite in the same game. Also, they had huge issues closing out games. But, appears this team has come a long was since then and is now playing much better, harder, tougher, much more consistent, cleaner basketball. Turnovers going down, players hitting the boards harder. Looking at recent performances this team has gotten, noticeably and significantly better going into the break. Favour Nwaedozi has adjusted much more, appears much more consistent. You can tell she's been getting coached up as the season has progressed. Trayanna Crisp..playing well, been stepping up regarding her overall game, her role, on court leadership. K. Richardson continues to play better. Team still needs to get Saniyah King back in the rotation as soon she's ready to go. Also, Faith Wylder continues to come in and play solid minutes in limited action...can help this team moving forward and in SEC play.

Need to continue to weaponize Destiney Mcphaul's exceptional playmaking ability but at the same time not let up off the gas with her offensive contributions. She's a player that could go out and get you 20 plus points per game if needed. At the same time she could go out and get you 5 or 10 assists plus if needed. Appears to be a team first type player, and a player that's about lifting up her team including coaches. My opinion she's the catalyst for this team.

Then you have the freshman standout Madison Francis who has been as advertised thus far this season.

Nigeria/Japan transfer Favour Nwaedozi has been more than solid. She's gotten way better since earlier in the season. Appears more comfortable as she navigates through her first season and the style of basketball being played in the United States (ncaa d1 women's basketball).

Chandler Prater- tough, physical player, brings it every game. Also, she's a really good rebounding guard and is hitting the boards much harder since earlier in the season. This Prater can hoop. Remember Coach Purcell had indicated that she had been slowed due to still recovering from her rehab.

Freshman Jaylah Lampley has been as advertised as well, including leading the team with 18 points in the last game. Coach Purcell indicated recently the she's a starter but that they currently like her as a 6th man for the benefit of the team.

3 players with double doubles in that last game. Also, they finished out that 4th quarter strong. This appears to be shaping up as a tough team, a coach able team, a team that plays hard, plays team ball, good passing team, rapidly improving team, high energy team, and has a drive about them. Coach Purcell thinks they can compete, players think they can compete. Again, they got some ballers on this squad...so we shall see.

Good write up! Fun team to watch!

I am cautiously optimistic about this bunch. The embarrassingly pitiful non conference schedule is what?s holding me back from being even more optimistic. The only team we have played with a pulse is Texas Tech and, even with the early lead, lost the game. If this momentum continues into the tough SEC, we may have the start of getting us back to where Vic had us.

I just looked at their SEC schedule. If they somehow reach .500 then it?ll be miraculous.

If there?s one thing this board is good at?..it?s providing good info on WBB and pretty good with the baseball program. Thanks jdelta!

This information is a day old. However our strength of schedule to date is 174. LSU is 339, Oklahoma is 259 and Ole Miss is 260. We are around seventh in the SEC. Our nonconference schedule isn’t nearly as bad as some try to make it.

Agreed, the Davidson, Southern Miss and @Lasalle wins werent bad wins. The Pitt and MTSU wins were supposed to be solid even though both havent been great. We should have beaten Texas Tech also. To be honest I dont mind that the schedule wasn't terribly tough for essentially a brand new team. We have had the time to gel and get better as the season has gone on. Ive watched every game except one and we have gotten better every game. We have plenty of resume building games ahead of us but we took care of the OOC games the way we were supposed to.

I think it is the first time in Coach Purcell's tenure we have been able to see game to game improvement. And it is great to see.
