View Full Version : Such a huge difference for the #6 seed vs #7 seed this year.

OM essentially gets a bye with Tulane while we see what just happened to A&M having to play Miami. Still don't understand how OM got a higher seed than TA&M given they had the same conference record and overall record while A&M had a road win at Notre Dame.

Sec and big 10 should just leave the ncaa. Have a plus 1 at the end for the real champs

This could have been one of the best days in college football history but instead the committee gives us a competitive game and two complete mismatches.
Notre Dame at OM and TX or Vandy at Oregon would have made for a great day of football.

I think the playoff should be limited to the top 8 teams. No G5 teams. Champions of the P4 and then four at large teams.

The tv providers should sue the ncaa for this. They cost them money

In a 12 team playoff I can live with letting 1 Group of 6 team in but having 2 of them this year is a joke and ruins the first round of the playoffs. Beyond ridiculous to have TWO of the first four playoff games with spreads higher than 17 points.

ACC deserves some of the blame for their stupid tiebreaker rules. Should have been Miami vs UVA in the ACC championship game. That would have put in Notre Dame over JMU

I?m all for letting 1 G5 team in but 2 is too many. If the ACC did their tie breaker properly then Ole Miss would actually be playing Notre Dame instead of Tulane

It needs to be the Top 12 teams and then the 4 highest rated G5 teams/conf champs play against #9-12 as a play in game. Round two would then be games between 6-12. Then you go into quarter finals.

Why does everyone complicate it? 16 teams. 5 auto bids, 11 at large. Done.

This makes the most sense. I hope that?s what happens in the future. Play all first round games at highest seed with no byes and that would basically resolve the problem.

Yeah, that would have let in Notre Dame, BYU, Texas, and Vanderbilt, and at least this year taken care of pretty much every controversy.

Ole Miss would be hosting Notre Dame right now.

Unfortunately, it looks like the main 16-team plan they're considering is that 13-16 have play-ins, and the 1 and 2 seeds get a double-bye.

So it would look like this:

Week 1:
16 James Madison @ 13 Texas
15 Tulane @ 14 Vanderbilt

Week 2:
9 Alabama @ 8 Oklahoma
10 Miami @ 7 Texas A&M
11 Notre Dame @ 6 Ole Miss
12 BYU @ 5 Oregon
13/16 @ 4 Texas Tech
14/15 @ 3 Georgia

Week 3:
9/8 vs. 1 Indiana
7/10 vs. 2 Ohio State
6/11 vs. 3/13/16
5/12 vs. 4/14/15

Needlessly complicated when a regular 1-16 bracket with no byes would be fine.

Well the fake plantation owners better enjoy their cake walk. Because their next game will be against a real playoff team not some G5 team that they already had beaten and did NOT belong in the playoffs.

The real reason everyone is pissed off is because Ole Miss just won a playoff game at home with a national audience. Every single one of us would kill for that opportunity and it?s a very black and white picture of how far ahead of us they are. I?m pissed off and all of you should be too.

I made my peace with OM being in the playoffs a couple of months ago. It doesn't bother me today because if State can't compete with Pete Golding that's on us.
But I'm watching Bears-Packers right now because a committee put a glorified FCS team in the CFP.

No it doesnt. G5 teams are in the Playoff because the NCAA is avoiding Anti-Trust legal issues. It's the only damn reason. So they throw them a bone to avoid hundreds of millions in profit loss.

I bet there are a lot less watching than it would be if it were Oregon/Vandy or OM/TEXAS.

Big L for college sports again tonight, people are going to stop watching this shit. I know I watched one drive of each of the afternoon/night games and haven’t checked up.

Only updates I get are from the ESPN app.

I don't mind a G5 or two, but make it 16 with no byes and reward the top teams in the country with a cupcake opener.

That game was embarrassing. That's your match up after playing a soft conference schedule? Both playoff teams Ole Miss beat this year are already out. Go figure. They are good, but ND in Oxford would have been highly entertaining.

PGHBulldogBG
12-20-2025, 09:49 PM
I know this is not a common opinion outside ND fans because a lot of people have a hatred for ND, but I actually think they are better than all the other teams outside the top 5. I think they would?ve won in Oxford because I think they are a better team than Ole Miss. In the past they got special treatment for being ND and they were overrated, but since Marcus Freeman took over they have been better. They did go to the title game last year and they played their two hardest games the first two weeks of the year. I bet they beat aTm too if they played them again. Not sure they could beat IU, OSU or UGA and TTU and Oregon could go either way but their easy schedule hurt them for sure.

IMO 16 is too many teams. Because teams 5-16 probably don't have a very realistic chance to win a NC at all. But they probably will do it with 16 teams because it makes more people happy.

I do hope at least for the playoffs that they take the bowls out of it because then every other playoff game would be decided on campus and then the championship could be a neutral site game.

Put the Sugar, Rose, Cotton, Orange, Peach, and Fiesta on NYD and just make it an epic day of football as God intended for it to be.

Just do 28 and let all 10 conf champs AQ. You've already got the extra weekend for it. Then so what if a few games are duds and blowouts. Gonna have plenty of exciting games and maybe some cinderellas.

Fix it and retail the academic / athletic / transfer calendars. Then incentivize staying at your original school (can't deincentive transferring but can reward staying in a school.)

This can get fixed or this can go the way of half empty nascar stadiums.

I just mentioned NASCAR before I read your post. I don't care what any average fan is telling me on a message board. I'm stating facts when I say that fans are turning away from college football. I'm the only family member that watches any games. My kids and granddaughter are 100% turned off by the sport. I work with a bunch of folks that were diehard fans and don't watch at all anymore.

TV product is bloated with commercials. NASCAR doubled down on more commercials / non antenna (FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC) options. NFL cut out touchdown - commercial - kickoff - commercial. College keeps expanding commercial times and cutting game time. NFL just cut commercial time and made it premium to watch.

NFL teams have less turnover year over year than college right now. College needs multi year protections both ways expeditiously.

But overall - make a structure that makes sense (you earn your spot - not make it the Alabama invitational). Calendar that makes sense and works with Academic calendar. Then actually improve the product. 3 hour or less game times. Affordable tickets for families. Crack down on secondary market inflaters.
