Per On3. Kinda surprising he is hitting it since he never hit an opposing Rusher.

We need to have a loadholt discussion.
None of our OL developed this year. Did any of them get better from the time he took over? Sure seems like they got worse.
Go get an experienced OL coach.

If my memory serves, Phil didn't show up until the 2nd portal window in the spring and got the leftovers. I could be wrong. 3 OL coaches in 3 years?
And I think those late additions ended up eventually starting (that does not mean they were good, just better).
Really Clark?

I think we need to let him get a full year in and recruit his guys. And have a consistent voice for another year. We may part ways after next year but think this wasn't as much of a potter problem but a clay problem.

His OL line at Colorado was a sack machine last year. He did, however, have a QB that was said to hold the ball too long, like Shapen was also accused of here at State, coincidence?****

well considering said QB is doing the same thing in the NFL- its not surprising. Saw a clip yesterday of Sanders holding the ball for over 7 seconds on 4th down and still didnt get the pass off. Another tweet said if he had thrown every pass into the ground yesterday- his QBR would have been higher than it was yesterday

I think that's possible.
I just think we should have improved at least marginally up front, and I think we got worse.

Lost starter first half of the first game of season in an already thin group. Had to plug in a transfer from the MAC at left tackle because our 4 star redshirt freshman was a lookout block waiting to happen. Started multiple combos over the season due to injuries again with a very thin group, what do you expect a coach to be able to do? He has to work with what was there and that wasn't much.

Exactly. I don't think we can fairly evaluate Loadholt yet.

And then there is this too.
And not only that we had to play a lot of underclassmen significantly on the o-line. Lewis obviously, but also Work and Owens were sophomores. I believe Jayvin James was also a sophomore as well but I'm just going off the top of my head and might be wrong about his classification.
In today's SEC you can not win playing a bunch of sophomores on your offensive line unless you have five unicorns.

I expect at least somebody to improve throughout the year. At least one of them. None of them showed any improvement in the 11 months under Phil. Most of them actually looked worse. Lewis certainly regressed.

What do you expect? How do you judge an offensive lineman improving? It looked to me like we had 5 guards trying to play all 5 spots on the line and most without the talent to play in the SEC and rarely wee able to get the same 5 on the field. Continuity and playing together count. When you get beat you get beat and there is no amount of coaching that can overcome that talent gap. As for Lewis, a guard with slow feet and a hard head trying to play left tackle is not a recipe for success.

I expect, at a minimum, guys not to regress.
We weren't talented in 2024 either but at least that line got better through the year.
Under Phil, Work regressed, Lewis regressed, Jacoby at best stayed the same, Reese at best stayed the same, and the guys Phil brought in (Owens, Mayberry, Jackson) never improved from day 1. They actually seemed to get worse.
Maybe Phil can sign some really good guys who don't need to be coached up.

No one regressed though, they were what they are. What you are missing and in your mind seeing as regression is the competition go that much better and as we got more beat up our lack of talent and depth showed up in grand fashion.

Work and Lewis absolutely regressed. Jacoby and Reese were the same players, at best.
I expect guys to get at least marginally better from year to year, or even in season. I reject the notion that guys are what they are, i.e., finished projects, and cannot improve at least marginally. Our 2024 OL improved in season despite a lack of talent.
Hopefully, Phil can get some talent in the portal, because I do not think he can develop anybody. Love to be wrong though. Not married to my take if he shows me to be wrong.

Several had to play out of position during the season. You can?t just plug and play linemen like that especially young ones unless you?re loaded with good experienced depth.
