Don't like, but it's because of the intangibles and not the on-field performance.

There's just no way he doesn't resent the athletic administration and Jeff Lebby personally. That's basic human nature.

Just seems like a move a non serious program would make.

Amazing how easy it is to drop resentment when the same place pays you a few million to come back to where your ranch is.

He isn't dating State, he's being a DC as a job that pays good money.

I'm not a fan of my previous employer, but I'd head right back over for a few million and really like them suddenly, and work real hard. Sometimes you guys look at things in a very unusual way. Do you think they walked in a room and all looked at each other awkwardly and we just offered him the job and he said yes and walked out? Do you not think things were discussed about previous time here? Good Lord, we want someone to win games guys, not go to Target Christmas shopping with on Saturdays and hope to steal a kiss from at the end of the night. Our fans act like we support Millsaps and not a SEC program. Man up boys, this ain't show choir.

Are we paying him multiple millions? That seems like a good bit more than any other P4 program would give him.

I'm probably looking at a guy awkwardly knowing he's been in the Wendy's drive through naked. Just sayin'.

I'm sure he'll make a few million over time if he works out.

So you're telling me we can go ahead and add another B vote for Bucky?

If he resented the administration that much he would have said no.

I would like to hear how all this came to fruition but I have a feeling Arnett and Lebby actually had multiple positive conversations leading up to Selmon telling him it?s his choice.

A but it is a somewhat strange situation.

If we can buy lines for both sides of the ball, I think we get over the hump. A lot of non MSU people think alot of Lebby and we know that Arnett is at least a competent DC.

I am very conflicted and confused by it. He was a decent DC during the Leach years, but he seems like a pushover with the way he allowed the boosters to make him hire their friends. Barbay, Friend, Peterson, etc were all done by boosters and boosters friends so that they can get more access into the program. Definitely not a fan of Brock coming back because he fell into that category too. I still think it comes down to the fact we had 3 or 4 potential DCs lined up, we got turned down by all 3, then in typical State fashion we panicked instead of looking at DCs who are more up and coming from smaller schools and have performed well for a few years

A.

If we had Hutz coaching a defense as good as Arnett we would not be having most of these conversations on this board. We would be 8-4 and going bowling.

Arnett is a solid hire, period.

B. This hire was done as an act of desperation. I think we'll clear house this time next year

He's proven to be a good DC in the SEC. People who hate it are just Air Raid/Leach disciples who hold resentment over 2023. Bunch of psychos really.

Tough defense is back baby!

Quaoarsking

Ultimately it comes down to whether Arnett can:
Replicate his 2020 - 2022 success despite not having Mike Leach to set the culture
Avoid any feelings of resentment toward Lebby or the athletic administration
Be free of whatever mental health (/substance abuse?) issues that were apparently affecting him in Las Vegas

If he can do all 3 of these, then yes, he'll probably greatly improve the defense, maybe even saving Lebby's job, but it still feels like a high-risk hire (there are other competent DCs who wouldn't have any of the 3 above questions) and one driven by boosters' personal feelings.

I’m not mad. Fact is IF Arnett has good players we will be good. He was bad as HC but ok as DC. Time to put the past behind and move forward. Btw I read he loves Starkville and that is a plus.

It's like my other half once said about Bill Clinton......" I don't care if the has a damn harem....if he'll just run the country....."!!

If he brings a “DOG" knock your **** in the dirt defense back.....I'm for it.
