Using Mullen as the example.
Did he turn down discussions with Arkansas? Or was that just agents saying so.
He is now rumored to be heating up as the Memphis HC candidate.

Easier path to the playoffs through Memphis than Arkansas, is all I can gather.

Definitely easier to win your conference at Memphis compared to Arkansas

From the people I have spoken to that have knowledge of that Memphis situation, their candidates are: Blake Baker(who's probably taking the Tulane job), Charles Huff(who wants it), or Jerry Mack from Kennesaw St. I think it's Huff's if he wants it. There's some people pushing really hard for Jerry Mack though and I believe he'd be the better hire. Huff wants out of Hattiesburg though. He always looked at this as a one year stop to park his Marshall team. He really believed he had a P4 job in the bag last cycle.

I had a Tulane booster tell me that they are hiring Baker. No idea how connected he is but he sounded pretty confident.

Not sure how involved Arkansas was with Mullen, but the thread is a bit ironic since Arkansas just hired their coach from Memphis

Lol, yeah. When I read the thread title, I thought it was going to be about whether Silverfield made the wrong choice by leaving.

Silverfield was definitely on the hot seat in Memphis though. So, I think he saw it as a situation where, if I only win 8 games next year, they might fire me...so, "get out while the getting is good"

Kennesaw State > Memphis
Arkansas > Memphis
Tulane > Memphis

They'd better go look for a fired coach with some baggage, a la Freeze, if they want a decent product on the field.

Something about him that makes me think he is an iffy coach at Arkansas.

Cmon mane KSU (and probably even Tulane) are not better jobs than Memphis. Memphis has not NIL support than ANY school in the American (thanks Fred Smith). A mediocre coach could win 8 games a year there, blindfolded. Look at their past 3-4 coaches and their track records while in Memphis. It's definitely not a destination job, but it's an EASY job to win at

Memphis is the best G6 job. They have more NIL than anyone in the G6 due to FedEx and are in an incredibly fertile recruiting ground for both the portal and HS.

KSU is the largest university in Georgia. They're playing for a conference championship tonight. What's Memphis up to? Their stadium, facilities, and current track record are awful. KSU is WAY ahead of Memphis right now. Nicer. Bigger. Better facilities. More wins. Etc... it's not close.

Y'all are living in the past. Unless Uncle FedEx pulls his money from Ole Miss and pays for everything Memphis related, it's not even close.

Fed ex is giving Memphis 5 million a year for 3 for years at least

Fred Smith set up irrevocable trusts giving Memphis NIL money until the end of time. Memphis has more money than anyone in G6. I know the trust info because I know 2 of the lawyers who drew that stuff up.

They should use some of that money to move out of the current hole they play in. And to upgrade their facilities. It's putrid over there. Depressing level bad.

My son lives in the Memphis area. His in-laws and their whole family are big fans of Univ. Of Memphis. Son and his wife both graduated from MSU. I am always amazed how many Univ of Memphis fans there are in the Memphis area. Whenever I am with son/daughter-n-law and their friends in Memphis I am amazed how staunchly his friends are about Univ of Memphis. Remind me when Univ. of Memphis was actually good in football and won anything meaningful. Yes I remember they beat us in Memphis several years ago. I was there!

They are literally in the middle of renovating the entire stadium as I type this and have been all year.

true, but that coach was way down the list of Arkansas offers. They struggled, but it was a tough year. The Arkansas sports board had names from Lashley , Campbell, Franklin, etc but could not pull them. Penn State website (Ironically) , said their sources from Franklin said Arky AD was seemingly unprepared and could not match VaTech offers.

To me it seems since UT, A&M, OU, and even SMU and TCU , have cut off alot of Arkansas advantage recruiting TX kids and formerly being the west most SEC school. That advantage is gone.

Used to love and go hang out some in Memphis. Stopped going when panhandlers outnumbered tourists. Did trump's clean up effort help any?

The battle of commuter schools, Kennesaw and Memphis.
Kennesaw does draw from huge radius, up to Chattanooga.
Oddly enough, UT Chattanooga seems to have alot of kids from the Memphis area enrolled.

They need to upgrade the entire area. And I hope they do. Would be cool to see a huge investment in that area.

UTC, GaSouthern, Kennesaw, Tulane, and a few others are in a great position to take major leaps forward. I could see them continuing to climb up the conference ranks. Kennesaw is a huge commuter school, but it has almost 50,000 students. The facilities are small, but really nice. Tulane is the same. Small, but nice. I hate when Tulane played in the Dome. Felt empty.

The city has been working on that for the past couple of years with some additions still to go. Its no Atlanta Braves but it?s better than it was

Yulman stadium is perfect for Tulane. It’s a good atmosphere for them the total opposite of the dome.

Almost like I know someone close to that situation and told everyone that if Huff wanted the job it was his.
