Nah! Lane now even has their AD trolling Obsessed State Fans. So the put salt on the wounds of State getting skull drug Croomesque style next Friday, they will announce a Lifetime Contract for $14,000,000 per year for Lane and crown his Daughter Miss University for good measure!

Well probably, I do think it also gives Ole Dixie a little time to search for a Coach so if Kiffin is gone they can announce quickly.

Also gives them time to prep the staff for the playoffs.

If Kiffin announced today that he was going to LSU it would have affected them Tuesday in the rankings. 100% it would have. Now they have a week to make sure they have a post season staff and interim coach ready to go. They take the hit in the rankings two Tuesdays from now instead.

I honestly wonder if he held off due to his son being in the high school playoffs. If Oxford loses tonight, I wonder if he rips the bandaid off tomorrow and leaves. Had he announced today, there is no way he attends that game tonight.

They expect to boat race MSU in the Egg Bowl and then announce he’s staying and a big contract. If State beats them then they still announce it Saturday and that’s the news not that they lost. They are masters at controlling the narrative. State sucks at it.

I hate being cynical, but after having watched college football as a fan and profession (sportswriter) at one time in my life, I can only think:

Carter is really trolling the fan base. All he is concerned with is holding the big money in check until Kiffin makes his move.

As for the Egg Bowl, this is not the game that it was even in Mullen's last year. The team coming to Starkville next week doesn't give a d**n about team, tradition, etc. In the long run, the only consideration they are concerned with is getting the paycheck. If Kiffin does decide to leave after the Egg Bowl I will place a guarantee that all of his playmakers will transfer to his new school. Winning brings big bucks, and that is what they want -- both with NFL chances and now with NIL.

Youre giving them way too much credit on this. Keith has no clue what Lane is doing or Lane is leaving.

In no way is this a master plan to give the good ole piss some positive press. This is insanely embarrassing on a national level even if he stays.

He has the fans so butthurt right now there is no going back for him. He wins the Egg and they will just be really mad at him for the next generation. Lose to us and leave? They will hate him with the power of the Sun

And to those saying its all a big troll? You dont use your family and kid to troll. The 2 big BR schools are bidding on Lame's kid. It's so much negotiating going on right now its crazy. And when Ross Dellenger says there is a deal and contract in place- its highly likely there is

Yeah. Can you imagine sitting at the kitchen table one night eating meatloaf and going "Hey Knox! You know what would really hilarious? If we just had you looking at random high schools in Florida and Baton Rouge. And while we're at it let's just get the whole family together and we can go hang out flying around the south. No. He's just trying to calm things down before the Egg Bowl because this is a massive distraction.

And make no mistake- they care A LOT about winning the Egg Bowl. They're going to do everything that they can to win it. Dellenger putting that info out puts a little bit of a wrench in that though.

Kudos to LSU for blowing this up after the Ole Miss announcement today. And Ross Dellenger.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the meeting went like this:

Kiffin: Yeah, I'm going to LSU. Food's going to be awesome!

Carter: Can you coach the Egg Bowl at least?

He will announce that he is staying after he names the score against us in the EGG. He and Carter will then say this was all a covert operation to leave LSU and FL without his services and they both have to make a last choice hire as the big names are gone in this hiring insanity, thus doing heavy damage to their programs.

All OM fans who have been previously professing their hate for this narcissist winner will take him back with open arms with more love than ever until the hiring cycle next year. He is their Mullen, but much more successful on the field.

This. I’ve been calling it all along. This wasn’t some big strategy though. They almost lost him but ponied up to what he wanted to stay (unlike State did with Mullen). Once the contract was in place it’s just wait until after the EB to announce it. They win and it’s the final nail in the State football programs already partially buried coffin. They lose, and the announcement of him staying overshadows the loss and they still get into the playoffs. This is what a competent athletic administration and marketing program looks like.

That's not accurate, we were already negotiating around the $6 MIL per year number for a new contract for Dan, which is what he got at Florida and would have received for TN. We were willingly to go even higher but it wasn't about money for Dan with us, he was ready to move on to a bigger program.

Like Dawgology said... they are masters at this. For the past week and atleast one more week, they are the most mentioned school on TV and social media. So if you?re LK, would you rather be the LSU coach and play OM, AR, and aTm every year (bigger fanbase, great atmosphere, much bigger stadium, and top notch facilities) greater chance of winning a NC, or be at OM playing us, LSU, and OK every year (good support, smaller stadium, pretty good facilities, good atmosphere) will be a challenge to make the playoffs much less win a natty. I think he takes LSU job.

Kiffin is making OM look like chumps. They hate this shit. This is not endearing him to the fans. Carter and Boyce have met everything he wanted to stay. He could have been the talk of the college football world Friday thru Saturday if he announced he was staying. He is not staying. He would be an absolute fool to turn down what LSU is offering him. And I am not just talking about the money. They are guaranteeing an NIL pool that would make LSU a national juggernaut of a program.

He is doing OM a favor by staying until next weekend. He beats us goes 11-1 and even if he leaves the committee will still allow OM in the playoffs with maybe a lesser seed but they are in the playoffs. I am not the only one saying this either. There have been a few SEC/LSU podcasters today saying the same thing.

And the word is there is a lot of animosity in Oxford right now that is bordering on toxic.

I think Judkins leaving a couple of years ago was a factor because I have heard rumors about LK being tired of losing players at Ole Miss.

And let's be fair here- with Judkins they probably beat Kentucky at the very least and maybe LSU.

If Lane stays, and he's not, he is an idiot. The Bluebloods are gearing up with $$$$. They are not going to allow what they have been to be trashed by Ole Miss. They will out spend and use program prestige to beat them on talent alone. Ole Miss does not offer the program prestige nor the amount of money that will be needed over the next few years to keep up with those programs.

When that happens, Lane Kiffin will no longer win these close games. His value drops, and he will be stuck in that situation. He knows full well what he is looking at. The money to recruit and the program prestige to not lose a recruit on $$$ alone.

Kiffin is gone.

I don't know how any State fan doesn't know that. It was common knowledge that we were matching or beating Florida offer. Dan would have been making at least $6 million per year at State, in 2018!!! That's 8 years ago. Imagine what he would be making today if he had stayed.

I have noticed that there is a LOT of MSU fans that have their own head canon of how things with Dan were in their head that simply weren't or aren't true.

MSU not countering Florida and Tennessee is one of those things.

Dan simply does not, never did, and never will feel about MSU the way that some of our fans wish he did. He literally left, barely said good bye and then tried to poach our players and recruits to Florida.

And this theory that Dan will somehow "see what he had at MSU and how good it was" and come back is also laughable.

He has been at UNLV for less than a year and he has already put his name out there for other jobs like Arkansas and he is already on his second DC.

Well - his first DC really is a mulligan. I mean who could have expected THAT.

And I'm not saying he's fully changed over - but I am saying I think he's a bit different and knows his lane a little more. He knows he could have stayed at State and been a legend for life. If he tried to seriously come back, I don't think he would use us to springboard. It will be telling this cycle - he's got real upward mobility opportunity. But what role is he looking for. If he doesn't change then it speaks volumes.

The Wendy's rumor with Arnett wasn't true. Dan and Arnett didn't get along. Which isn't a complete surprise to me.

The reality is the college football world doesn't think nearly as highly of Dan as MSU fans do. Which is why he isn't seriously being considered for any jobs this cycle despite being 9-2. Now, that might change but I doubt it.

It would make 0 sense to put out that statement if he is staying. You risk fully distracting both players and fans before the Egg Bowl for no reason if that is the case.

Not to mention recruits

I'm gonna say this. Prominant OM boosters aren't happy because they have had a $13.2M/yr extension on his desk for a month with no response. That's a fact.

I mean that's not even the same money as either Florida or LSU are offering so.

I talked to a diehard OM guy who has been involved with athletics there for a very long time. He is so disgusted and pissed off with Kiffin, he was talking under his breathe about how bad of a situation and he wants him gone now. Me and another friend were shocked at what he was saying in about 2 minutes and walking away.

Funny thing is he could stay for a chance to win on playoff game, break Vault's win record at ole miss, and bolt out the door.
Or ..... we win and keep him from even tying it

I actually think he has too. I think he?s probably fond of MSU in hindsight. Not saying he wants to come back. Two different things. I wouldn?t blame him for not wanting to spoil the memories.

Yep it is obvious he has reflected on how poor things turned out for him leaving. Also the highlight of his career was probably as HC at MSU even if he won't openly admit it he knows its true.

I don't think he comes back and nor should he. He burned his opportunity at MSU and it was a good one.

I watched that presser. When they told Kiffin that you could see he didn't know he was 2 wins from breaking that record. If he is allowed to he would coach 2 more games hoping to win just to break the record and bolt. He wants his name etched in history.

We can ruin that. It would be great.

Kiffin will never be a hotter coach and these high profile jobs will never be open when he is hot. It is now or never. OM will get tired of him when he has a 6-7 win season. It is coming, it happens to every coach at some point. Saban was smart enough to bolt while he could.

Yeah, the Locked On Ole Miss guys were harsh with him yesterday too. They wanted him to say he was going last Friday so Judge, Weiss, Jr and Golding could go ahead and take over.

Crazy to think the year he started in Florida he probably would have been playing for a NC at State?or came real damn close. Grass was always greener for him. Of course, it makes sense he jumped when he did. He was a top prospect for several big programs that were open at the time and he was a hot commodity due to his success at State. Inevitably he would have had some more 6-6, 7-5 seasons and his stock would have dropped. Hey?this sounds like a familiar current story?
