"4th and Lebby" is the phrase I'm putting forward for your approval to describe our offense in 4th down situations.
I swear. I have never seen a coach who is such a consistent 4th down failure. At least once per game (and often more times than one) our 4th down genius goes for it when we should punt or kick a FG instead, and/or doesn't go for it when we should. It is like he thinks he understands football psychology better than anyone in the history of the game. That's why he doesn't take the points in the first quarter and stuff like that. He thinks we're going to lose if we don't get 6 on some 1st quarter drive and what happens is we lose because he doesn't tale the 3 and puts us behind the eight ball. Stuff like that. It's maddening. He's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Don't forget hurry up offense in the 4th quarter against Texas. There were so many times in that game that one logical decision would've put Bevo on ice. But logic doesn't live in Lebbyville.

The play that won it on 4th down in Arkansas was a stupid throw short of the sticks. Evans bailed us out

And why when we do move the ball smartly and quickly down the field until we get inside the 15 and then go into the Stansbury Stall and run clock don from the huddle and the. Race up to the line and snap it quickly only to lose 3 yards. Why not run the same offense all the way into the end zone. Argggghhhh! I hate this head coach! Get him off our sidelines!

Everything we line up on 4th and short on our side of the filed, I tell everyone around me, "we're snapping the ball, we're trying to draw them off," but we usually end of snapping the ball.

I?ve said it here before, 3rd and 1 is the most difficult, complicated yard in the history of football for us to convert. We are abysmal in short yardage plays.

Overload , block down lead with a fullback and hand it to Fluff

Pump fakes and jab steps from the QB. I've posted about it before, and it is drastically underused in college football. Mullen masters it, and A&M QB did it so well yesterday on a jab step and then wide open throw to the TE for TD.
You put Taylor in so they have to respect the run at QB, and then you use the jab step to hold linebackers and safeties and allow these speedy guys to get an extra step or to free up a TE in the goal to go spots...it's impossible to defend. Pump fakes to gain a step on a defender when you have guys as fast as Thompson are so huge...and we never use it.
Petrino uses it a lot with Green too. Not sure why we don't

Probably the same reason we don’t use KT and run. qB sneak when we on the 2. Our Coach is stupid. 17 point lead in the 4th quarter and we snapping ball with 25 seconds on play clock. Or 4th and 4 and going for it on our 15. Or not kicking the FG against FL.i could go on and on

I have only seen one shoulder shrug this year by a qb. Pump fake and then launch.

We are 52% on these. You might as well get use to it. Lane does it. Briles does it. Arbuckle does it. ETC. This is not the 1980s anymore.

I'm all for going for it on 4th down. Im all for analytics. I think it's great for the game. I just dont agree with going for it on 4th down with the way the offense was playing at the time. One thing analytics can't account for is momentum. Or is the team playing an away game and pinned down by the student section? There can be different factors for sure. All in all.. analytics are good. Especially with the right personel.
Edited to add: Even tho I like analytics, sometimes it is better to use common sense and judgment. Analytics said to throw a pass against Florida. That was not a good coaching decision imo. In situations like that, take the conservative route.

I would have ran it to set up the FG vs FL. But I 100% understand why he did that.

I get it too. It's always better if you can get closer to help your kicker out. Especially if you can hit a quick out route in the sideline. It involves way more risk tho. Granted there is risk in running the ball but those risks are less.

Myth. Go back and watch the film. We weren't taking the play clock to 5 but we damn sure weren't running hurry up. We only ran 6 plays on offense after we were up 17. Defense shitting the bed costs us that game with a dumb-ass penalty and nobody but Kelly Jones having a clue how to cover anyone.
