Punting.
We were outkicking the coverage bad in the second half. I said it the kick before the run back as I think they had a big run there too. We should have pooch kicked on that last kick or punted away from return man. We kicked it 20yards past our gunners.
Jackie used to measure hangtime. If you kick it so far and your gunners run a 4.5 you have to hang it so long. We never adjusted on the punting. Another big learning moment that never needs repeating.

When I saw the returner retreating back to field the punt, I said uh oh! And sure enough that gave him room to get loose. His longest punt was not his best punt because he out kicked the coverage. We played with fire and got burned. Bad!

Unless the punter went rogue that's on our coaches.

Yes it was. I don't know how the ST coach or HC or someone wasn't having the discussion before sending punt team out. Just another one of those simple things that could have won the game for us. Funny thing is, we pooched kicked it in a recent game with Shapen I believe but nothing in the most crucial time of the game against one of best KR guys. Total miss.

That is the one time we actually should've used the hang time punter, I think Tyce.

Yes it is but this one is just so simple and all coaching. Take the bad plays away from players and get the W when you can.
If Lebby and others can grow up this year like Hutzler appears to have done, we'll be hell on wheels next year.

Since you brought it up, missed tackles played a huge part, so did the cover guys not staying in their lanes. Nobody was thinking about out kicking the coverage, nothing wrong except we didn't cover, not the decision. Regardless the punting team has to cover.

After the first return that he got good yardage, we should have been angling out of bounds from then on or kicking a 35 yard punt with 7 second hang time.

Yes you can say that on every play. If that is the case then why do we pay coaches millions? Because they get paid to give you an advantage. To put your players in a position to win. We didn't do that fundamental thing on punting. That guy is one of best KR guys in nation. You don't kick it to him like that at that time.

Yep, we had a warning or reminder. I said it after he got good yardage on another return. You just got to be smarter than that.

And, wasn't Hutzler a ST coach before he came here? Looks like he needs to give a little, or lot, of oversight in that area.
