Since rumors are encouraged and I'm not officially reporting it, s/o Not A Fan McCready, I would expect Caleb Cunningham to enter the portal this offseason and he will be at State next year. Talked to some folks in Oxford this weekend who were pretty confident that OM is going to end up recruiting over him. Said him not getting a spring practice just put him behind the 8 ball in the rotation. He also had some trouble picking up the playbook initially.

He also would have multiple years of eligibility. Those are massive gets in the portal.

I would love to add him. I'm a little surprised Ole Miss can recruit any high school recruits because they recruit over most everyone with someone in the portal.

Still going to have Gayten and we are adding JJ Hill.

Could be an interesting offseason with the coaching carousel and seeing some former in state recruits enter the portal at places like Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, and maybe LSU.

Agree. The good news there is we should have McClendon, Trevion, and Dinkins because of medical redshirts so there is a solid core there that is young. We do need more though so we can have a good rotation of players.

Hearing this is false from someone that knows Caleb and speaks to him regularly. Caleb is staying in Oxford and is taking a redshirt. I would love to get Caleb but I think it’s more realistic to get KD Daniels from Florida.

And this is why finishing out this season strong solves some of our problems. It will put us back in the discussion with a lot of recruits both HS and portal.

Easy to win when your schedule is softer than baby sh!t. They should have at least one loss to a crappy Arkansas team. They’ll lose one they shouldn’t, but we have to beat them to keep them out of the playoff.

I think this year is the end of Brennan Thompson's eligibility...unless something changes to give him 1 more yr.

Let's see how he feels the Friday night after Thanksgiving. We may not win, but it will show the gap between the two teams is minute. Swap schedules and the records would be the same or one game off at most.

I was not told he wasn't happy or was ticked off about R/S. I was told OM is going to recruit over him and he's going to get buried on the depth chart, exactly like Ayden did.

Things change in a hurry. If they cut his NIL for another player, he could be in the portal before you know it. Hell, so could KT

I do expect him to the enter the portal. It has nothing to do with being pissed at Kiffin or not liking Oxford or Ole Miss. It has to do with seeing the writing on the wall. They're going to recruit over him. Kiffin is not ever going to tell him to leave. He's not going to tell a 5 star to leave. But he will be honest with him, just like with Ayden, that he's been passed on the depth chart.

In a competitive environment, you should always be recruiting over your existing players. That is the nature of the beast. The difference is if you go to Ole Miss the odds are you won't even be given a chance because they're going to recruit over to so why commit in the first place? Big difference between given an opportunity and getting passed up and getting passed up because they're want a new shiny toy out of the portal.

I assume all players get a chance to show out at practice. So that is a player's opportunity. Again, it is competitive environment. Life can be dog-eat-dog. I have no issue kicking any player to the curb if we can find someone better. I'm not a "participation ribbon" type of guy. I hope we recruit over every player on our roster. I absolutely love Fluff Boutwell for instance. But if the next version of Barry Sanders is available, Fluff will be watching from the sidelines with his helmet in his hand. And if he bitches I will say "Barry Sanders just did to you what you did to guys like Xavier Gayten".

We had to build up the roster before we recruited over guys. But you can already see shades of it. Most teams would've just stuck with Booth but we chased Ahmad Hardy and Fluff Bothwell.

It's a bit more complicated with boosters paying money now. They want to see ROI on their investment. For example they clearly had their better QB on the bench to start the year and it took injuries for him to get into the game. They love the portal and they do not take players without the intent of them starting. As a result it does not allow for much development for a high school player.

Agree and like it or not, a lot of these guys are making big $. Little or no ROI, process them and try to find a better player.
