By Penn State. That's a big job that just came open. Buyout was 48 million dollars.
Who does Penn State go after?

They will look at Mullen but likely not hire.
They'll consider Kiffen but once their schedule evens out you'll see how much they consider him. It'll be like Mullen when he was here.
They go with Cignetti.

I know a lot of PSU alums and they got tired of him never beating OSU, Michigan and now Oregon. He could never win against a top team and they did not see Boise State or SMU as top level teams. He basically was their Dan Mullen with more talent and an easier schedule. Now they run the risk of hiring a Moorhead though and falling to Wisconsin status. Not sure I agree with the firing, but I understand the frustration of a coach not being able to win a big game

Wow. Talk about a reactionary decision.
Guess they believe it's never too early to start looking.
Just who in the hell do they think can do better.

If they don't have Saban lined up, they're more likely than not to downgrade.

Saw it listed with every HC salary inD1 football. He was ranked in top 10 paid coaches in America, close r to $10 million. Kirby Smart high test paid with over $13 million.

Oh I agree but their fans think they can pull it off because he is from PA. Their fans are a bit delusional in thinking they can get the same caliber coaches as the blue bloods

Than Penn State? Lol
They had their best team in history last year and still couldn't make an expanded playoff, while PSU had an average team for them and made the final 4.
Plus PSU has a top 10 budget while Mississippi has a top 30 budget.

Penn State is a much better job than Mississippi in football.
Lame has settled in and is doing something Mullen couldn’t do- not yelp at every decent job that comes open. Lame likely only leaves for Bama/LSU/Miami type job. He’s not going way north or making a lateral move

If we beat Florida I bet they pull the trigger on Sun Belt Billy.
Also, UAB just fired Dilfer. I have to think that Pete Golding would be a head coaching candidate for them.

James Franklin was an inflexible coach when it came to adjusting to the modern game. Because of inflexibility his ceiling was too low even though his basement was good. A case in point was a press conference he had when asked about the lack of 50 – 50 balls or contested catches at Penn State when opponents beat Penn State with contested catches.
Franklin was arrogant and condescend ending to the questioner and stated that Penn State throws to open receivers? Franklin was self-assured about no throwing contested catch balls. The thought of actually listening to a competent question was dismissive in Franklins mindset.
Not to get too technical to fellow elitedoggers but I would like to bring up something about the pass attack. Running a pass pattern in a schematic drawn up play is entirely different than running a pass pattern as a tagged receiver who has to find a way or solve how he is covered.
As a scheme participant receiver steps are counted and geometric compliance is emphasized. A tagged match-up receiver closes the gap to the defender to inflect stress and works the defender with step sequences to disorient the defender. The receiver has built in discretions to get to his spot decided by the offense.
This is taught in the NFL, Ohio St., and Mater Dei High School yet not even known or accepted by Franklin thus a low ceiling at PSU and a rightful termination?

I think you need a mix of both in an offense. Because one on one match ups are based on Jimmy's and Joe's and if you don't have the better Jimmy and Joe you need a way to get the ball to your playmakers. That's where things like crossing routes come into play. Now, that said if you have the better Jimmy's and Joe's it does make sense to take advantage of that.
Frankin's offense was always old school run first at Penn State for the most part. Pretty boring scheme to watch.

I don't think LK bolts for the NFL. He's working the hell out of the portal and can get the kind of players he wants. That's much harder to do in the NFL and he knows that and he wouldn't make anymore money. He's a giant prick but he's no dumbass. I think he stays at the collegiate level.
