31-9

So in short. We were down 7-3 with the ball on 2nd & 3. Had an RPO up the middle called. Shapen saw a blitzer and tried to pull it. And then we never attempted to run the ball up the middle again and got blown out from there.

I know "you can't run the same play everytime - look at the drive aggy stopped it". Yea - we were backed in our own endzone and they knew we wouldn't risk the safety for any kind of throw there - oh wait we did and just didn't get the PI called on 3rd down. Aggy stopped overloading the up the middle runs then. But there was only 3 more of them 8, 2-1st, 5.

Sometimes, smart people overcomplicate this game. Our offensive playcaller did just that. Idk what halftime film we watched but we could have easily been the team that wears the opponent down last night and have their 4th Q runs go from 5 to 15 apiece. Butttttt we didn't.

Look at the film. Look at what works. And spend two weeks teaching OL how to block nothing but stunts and delay blitzes. Comical to see a team line 3 DL on one side and the other edge in a ****in 9+ technique and not punish that with running hb dive behind the free guard.

So outside of one drive we weren't able to run the ball.

I don't understand why we have fans that say we should do something different when their answer is always run the ball more even when that isn't working.

The real answer is to do what we did on our TD drive. A few short easy completions. That opens up the running game and it also helps with the deep passing game because the other team cannnot chance having 7+ defenders in the box.

That needs to be the adjustment going forward.

Im saying we shouldn't move laterally / slow developing shit.

Look at it under the lens of "where did they stop us from pounding the ball directly up the middle?" and the answer is one drive.

There's a difference between just saying to run the ball and #RTGDFB. The second one is saying - put big boy britches on, whip their ass. Take the 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Get back up on the ball and do it again. Do that shit all night to a 5,6 man box and then it becomes 7/8. Then you have 1 on 1 with BT / Ant. You have 7/8 in the box against our 3 wide and we just need the HB and the TE to get a shove. Then it's open somewhere deep. Thats the formula the talent on this team can succeed with.

That formula doesn't work very well for anyone. It has been proven wrong in many different studies.

Think about it this way. We have an offensive line that is struggling. We all agree on that. Why would you want the weakest part of your team trying to block 7-8 defenders when they struggle with 4?

So we have to pull defenders out of the box to give ourselves a chance to make running and deep passing work. Well, you do that with quick passes and screens. You throw a slant to Thompson when they're on cover 1 or 0 and there is almost no one behind him it's a house call for us. Same with a hitch. We can burn the rush with screens too. So what does the defense have to do when we start doing that? They have to pull people out of the box. Then what happens? Now Booth is running against 5-6 rather than 7-8. And with fewer rushers it buys Shapen time to get a bomb off.

I mean it took an ATM DPI not getting called last night to stop a drive we focused on it. It took us doing a dumbass false start inside the 1 to stop ourselves from getting a TD.

Different games you make different adjustments based on strengths and weaknesses. Last night - the halftime adjustment should have been to shove it. Hell the announcers even did the tecmo bowl dive graphic. It was obvious to them - why did we try to get cute.

There will be games where getting cute helps us win. (Could be Florida honestly) But last night was not a game to get cute. Bully ball would have shortened the game.

Quick no huddle dive against 3rd & goal from the 1. 7-0
Running the ball until the Aggies stop it our INT drive - controls the clock and likely go in up 10-0 or better because Aggy would have had no time to work with. We then were playing great defense out of half. 2 attempts at drives up 10-0 in the second half. Formula was there for us. Frustrating. Good coaches scheme/plan well enough to win. Great coaches adjust that scheme/plan to what it needs to be to win.

Our best drive was when we threw a few short passes and then hit a bomb. That's the adjustment.

With OL concerns, that should have been the gameplan going into TAMU. Lebby needs to get his head out of his ass.

A little dose of the air raid would have been a decent plan I think.
