I expect him to make the opposite DEs think twice about selling out on pass rush. I think he has the legs to make them think contain instead of knock this immobile slow white boy's head off

Yeeeeahhhh. Except that's not how they're coached. Especially after the tackles ole' them and they have a full head of steam. And Shapen isn't immobile at all.

Shapen isn't terrible, but we all know that Lebby spent all of December trying to replace him in the portal and failed.

Even if we had the most mobile QB in the SEC we would still need to block someone.

That's the thing a lot of our fans don't get. You can't just Superman your way through a SEC defense. There are no corners to cut. We HAVE TO be better going forward at all positions.

Oh, I agree.

Its a combination of a lot of things with Shapen, that we're stuck with, obv, bc hes clearly the most knowledgeable in the offense.

I reeeeally wish he didn't crumble like wet balsa wood on every drop back when things break down....

You don?t have to feel sorry for him but you should be impressed with him. There was a massive talent gap on that field tonight and we completed for 3 quarters. You were too busy knocking Shapen to notice.

We did not compete on offense.

Sorry that few players can be persuaded to play here. Very few

I think the frustrating part is that half the team played like they could?ve won the game. The other half might as well have been folding chairs.

True

No air cast so there is a glimmer of hope we could get him back at some point.

Yeah. Hopefully not broke. Could be a bad high ankle sprain but those can linger too

He is better with a five second clean pocket. But even five seconds is not always enough time for him.

True. Its up to Lebby to scheme plays early to get this offense in a rhythm. Quick throws. Bootlegs. Motion. Shovel passes. Jets. Anything to get pressure off our QB knowing our OL is suspect....that didn't happen tonight. I wonder how much the TN performance might've blinded us for needing drastic adjustments, tho...

If anyone and I did, saw the TAM Aubbie game last week they would've saw the TAMs D was legit and would've designed his game plan accordingly. Just like you stated.

We're going to have to $tep it up as a fanbase if we want to win enough to go to the playoffs.

If there is ONE thing we did well tonight is we finally started to get the short passing game going. THAT is going to help the offensive line as much as anything. Look at the only TD we scored tonight.

I think what happened tonight is more of a product of injuries and being on the road more than anything. We also had two turnovers and they cashed in on one of them (maybe two?) and that made it look worse than it was. I don't know that jets and shovels will help too much because jets take a long time to develop and that's the opposite of what we want the line to have to do. Shovel it's just I could see it getting blown up because they can't block.

Well never make the playoffs but we can win 6-7 sometimes. If things fall in order.

And the problem with the RPO is the play execution depends on the QB and Shapen wants to sit back and play Brett Farve. It won't work with a crappy Line. He should've made Fluff the second coming of John Riggins.

And that should realistically be the goal. We can't get there without a dual threat qb. Don't even waste a scholarship on a guy that can move the chains vs an sec team with his legs

Huh?!?!

How do we as fans need to step up? Is he really being that simple saying just throw more money at it? Is it to pay more to players? To coaches? To administrators?

He's not immobile!!!

So if you take away the sack yardage he clearly has positive yardage. So yeah. He is mobile enough.

Also, again EVERYONE on this board said over and over and over again that they didn't want him running because he would get hurt. So, that's exactly what Lebby has done basically and now you're questioning why he isn't Superman and runs more while DL and LB's are all over his ass.

And let me remind people that you are the guy that wanted us to hire Dave Clawson as our coach.

It really is about money. We have everything else at every other position EXCEPT offensive line. So we're not that far off.

It won't work with him. He doesn't process that quickly and does not have great pocket awareness.

Shapen has a little speed when he gets going. But he’s not quick. He can’t take off and get away from someone out of the pocket. Doesn’t move around well in the pocket either.

This is a pathetic attitude. With a better OL, we'd have a decent shot to get there this year.

If folks in college programs continue to pitch this narrative, it will kill college football. There are already lifelong diehards in my circle who donated lots of money to their programs over the years who have said no more. College football better wake up and institute cap spending or watch the sport as it is now disappear.

I mean, we don't control the environment that the game is in as fans. We have to adapt to it whether we like it or not. I do think we can survive in it and do OK but MSU fans have to be first convinced that MSU can.

Because it's so incredibly obvious that I was saying we needed a larger pool of money to get better players. Therefore, you were playing coy for some silly reason.

All we will do is inflate the spending across college football. We will still pull the same level players; we'll just pay more for them.

Look at the rest of our team compared to what we had last year though. That's not what has happened. We spent more money and we are vastly improved on defense. And you look at a team like Vandy- NIL and the portal has made them respectable. There is a lot of parity now and it's more about talent identification really IMO. Even WR where we have historically struggled in recruiting and we of the top ten WR's in the SEC four on the list either played for MSU or played for MSU last year.

Personally, I think the changes have been good for MSU but MSU just had to come around to embracing it.

Yes. Our D is night and day a different animal compared to last year. Why?

Answer: $$

Let's do the same for OL and some more DL players...

I can see this. If a player is all about money(and some aren?t) and we offer more, the Alabamas, Texas schools will just offer more and the price continues to rise. If we are improved from last year. I guess go after the good players that the big schools are not necessarily dying to have. Salary cap and contract this crap quick please
