Honestly, I would be happy with 3 for 50 even. We need to get some more guys involved in the pass game and we need to get Traore going.
That might happen naturally because I think UNI has a pretty good run defense or at least above average.

It is a lot better than their pass defense, which is tied for 91st at the moment. Their rush defense is top 20 so it would actually be an encouraging sign if we were able to establish a run game.

Beginning to think Traore is what we have seen for a year and 3 games. Disappears in the passing game and questionable blocking at times. Don't forget we brought in about 3 portal TE's. May be for a reason, but if they can't beat him out if he doesn't produce, a negative outcome.

I still think (a no brainer), that we will know how good all facets of this team is when we play TN and a couple more SEC games.

Shapen has had a 28 completion game and a 26 completion game in his 2 years here. If he has a game with 20 completions or more then we should have 8-10 between Traore, Williams and Mosely. But I mean if the production is coming from Thompson and Evan’s then that means we are having success in the passing game so it’s hard to argue with the results so far.
It’s funny. We’ve had a couple of people comment that we’ve only had success on a couple of long pass plays. THAT is what you want out of a modern passing game. If your QB is throwing it 45 times for 200 yards then you aren’t a successful passing offense.
It was just a couple of years ago that a qb who will not be named and Bryce Young had nearly the same # of passing yards and Bryce had almost 150 less completions.

I see your point but we also need to get some guys going. We're going to need more than Williams and Evans once SEC play starts.

He's really an H-Back. He is never going to be a big time blocker.

This offense is a little bit Air Coryell-ish with the emphasis on deep passing and scoring from afar.
The results have been very good and the analytics bear that out as well. Essentially we beat Arizona State on three deep passes we connected on.
IMO you should throw at least 8-12 deep passes a game. If you connect there is a good chance it's a TD. If you miss on them the other team has to respect the fact that there is a chance you might connect on a fluke and score.
And that forces defenders out of the box making it easier to run the ball.

When you have our speed and a QB that can hit it; you do it. But we do need to have some balance on O and I think we do but we need to own the LOS more on run game.

So far, we have really good balance IMO. We have shown that we can beat people passing the ball like we did against Arizona State. I think we will be able to run the ball OK when we need to. And to me, that's the key. It's not about establishing the run so much as it is attacking the weakness of the opponent. Some teams we're going to need to throw the ball well to beat them, some we'll have to run it better against them to beat them, and some like Alcorn we can do whatever we want to do.
In my mind though, we know what Booth can do and we know what Fluff can do. And then you have guys like Gayten so we have enough there. But if you look at our passing game it seems like it is almost all Thompson and Evans. And they have both been very good. But I don't want other teams to isolate them, so we really need at least 1-2 guys like Ayden Williams- who it sounds like had some hamstring issues- and SanFrisco or really anyone that can cause some damage. And we know what Traore can do in the passing game as well so he is another somewhat proven target as well.
At the very least we have something there to rely on so I don't feel like we're in bad shape but I do hope it evolves as the season goes on so we can be more dangerous.

There will be no more opponents "like Alcorn" unless it is Saturday against NIU. Our running attack was adequate at best against USM and poor against ASU. The OL is still a work in progress per running the ball. SEC games will quickly tell the tale as always.

I don't know how much we can read into that Rushing D stat. Maryland is only averaging 116 a game in rushing O, and Holy Cross 128. Holy Fn Cross???? Come on guys. And yet people are discounting ASU's D who has only allowed 91 rushing yards a game???
We are by far the best team they have faced at 178 a game, and I think it will show very quickly.

I also don't know how much we can read into our rushing stats. Yea we avg 178 but the devil is kind of in the details with that one
USM-186
AZ State-66
Alcorn St-282
So yea we're averaging 178 but our two big games are against defenses without a pulse. I think we'll be able to run the ball on Saturday but it's going to be a struggle early on trying to establish it. We need to do what we did to USM, hit them early with an explosive and then grind it out to establish the running game, which is exactly what we were doing until we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties in that one.

Yes, obviously Alcorn is worst team we will play this year. But there will be other defenses we will be able to pass and run against.

I think 186 against USM is pretty respectable. If you take out Alcorn we're still averaging over 100 yards rushing a game which is decent. I anticipate that average will go up too.
Some of those penalties against USM were BS.
