Here is why Purdue can upset the Trojans:

1) USC secondary is suspect. They haven't played anybody but have given up 18 passes for double digits.

2) Purdue has been disruptive in opponents' backfield. Granted they haven't played anyone either.

3) Purdue OC Josh Henson was on Lincoln Riley's staff for 3 years at Southern Cal. Suspect he knows them pretty well.

4) Purdue Coaching staff is rather familiar with Maiava. DC Mike Sherer was at UNLV with him and both HC Gary Odom and the aforementioned OC have coached Maiava before.

5) But the big one...

Let me take you back to another and time and place, namely East Rutherford, NJ on September 8, 2012. USC QB Matt Barkley threw a career sigh SIX touchdown passes while WR Robert Woods had 200 all purpose yards and two score as the Trojans shook loose of the Syracuse Orange and won 42-29. So what?

It was the last time the University of Southern California football program won a game east of the Rocky Mountains. And I'm not talking 5 times or even 10, and only a few of them games at South Bend, IN. They have lost FIFTEEN straight, including 5 under Lincoln Riley. Something about that program's body clock just doesn't translate to the Eastern or Central timezone.

Now, if I'm being honest I really only give Purdue a 1 out 3 chance to win, but 33% is 33% percent more than I knew any of the folks in that group would give them. In any case, with USC favored by 20.5, bet the Farm, plus my Farm, plus the deed to Mar-a-Lago on the Boilermakers.
