Wow. Just wow. What a game and what a night. I pity any State fan that wasn?t there for that one. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible and the ending was something I?ll never forget for a long time. I saw a lot of media members tweeting we deserved that one. I?m not usually one for someone?s pity on us, but they are damn right. After everything we went through for the last 21 months, we 17 deserved that one.

1. I will again expound on the atmosphere. The crowd was a tad disappointing, but the atmosphere was on another level. The lights, the music, the timing, etc. It was a first class production from our crew.

2. I don?t know if we could?ve asked for a better start. We were firing on all cylinders. I mean to score in 1:09 and strike with the efficiency we did was highly impressive. It was Kiffin-esque how we went down the field. That is how a first drive is supposed to be scripted.

3. We really need to find a way to establish the run game early. I hope these next two weeks allow us some time to work out some of the kinks in the run game. Neither Booth nor Bothwell were very effective last night. 30 rushes at 2.2 yards an attempt will not cut it.

4. As good as Evans and Thompson were, and my god they were good, we have to get the other receivers involved. Shapen completed 19 passes and 15 of the 19 were to Thompson and Evans. It was good to see Ayden and Rickey get involved but we need more. I thought the shot play to Williams was a great call, and I thought the DB got away with PI but I digress, but Williams has to track the ball a little better.

5. It looked like Traore reverted back to 2024 Seydou last night. Drops, missed assignments, etc. Now I say all that and he basically ran an accidental rub route and tripped the blitzing nickel on the Thompson GW. We need him to be better moving forward and need to get another TE involved whether that be Reese or West.

6. Offensive Line is still a work in progress and we need to get that fixed. I thought they played their ass off last night and kept a pretty clean pocket for Shapen but we just never got any push on run plays. It was good that we cut down on the stupid pre snap penalties.

7. Defensively we are still a work in progress. You cannot say we played great because we gave up 251 yds rushing. I thought the D Line got gassed, especially after Whitson went down. Hopefully we can rest him the next couple of weeks and have him ready for Tennessee.

8. Expounding on the last point, WHEN IT MATTERED, our D bowed their necks and got a massive stop. Two things can be true there. We have a lot to clean up on that side, but last years D doesn?t get that stop.

9. The CB room is night and day. Kelley Jones made himself some money last night and I thought Brumfield had some moments as well.

10. For all the people that shit on the staff for keeping Nic Mitchell and Hunter Washington around, they served you up a nice helping of 17 you last night. Mitchell with huge stop on 3rd down and Washington with the game clinching INT. Look are they our best players, not by a mile, but you can?t measure peoples heart or resolve and they showed it.

11. To the guy behind me screaming, ?We have no heart? the entire second half, do not get mad and butthurt when I start screaming NO 17 HEART at you on the GW score. Eat your crow and like it.

12. Full disclosure, I blacked out for the Thompson TD. I have went back and watched it like 10 times and still had no clue the lights were going off. I literally lost control and jumped like 4 rows back and started hugging a guy from back home like Jackie used to hug Joe Lee after a big win.

13. Yes I was on the field and no I do not care if we get fined. We will pay it in .2 seconds after last night.

14. If you are still trying to make up your mind about this team, BUY IN. Be at Tennessee and be loud. The atmosphere makes a difference and it definitely did last night.

All in all, what a night to be in Davis Wade and what a night to be a Bulldog. I don?t think that?s one any of us will forget for a long time. HailState

What’s the injury to Whitson? We need him when we get to SEC play

Knee is all I heard. Saw him on crutches in the 4th but he walked off on his own so I don’t think it will be long term.

Never felt like we really tried to establish the run in the spots that called for it. Both backs had some decent runs when they bounced out and the opportunity was there to run more. Several time shapen pulled the ball then stood around for a sack when there were holes to be had.

The most disappointing thing to me was that ASU obviously made adjustments in the run game and we never adjusted back. Just kept on getting gashed. And it wasn’t fatigue unless our guys ran gassers during halftime cuz it started on their first drive.

Lots and lots to fix. But it was fun for once. We actually stepped up and did what had to be done when it had to be done. Can’t remember the last time that was the case against a decent team. Time will tell how good they really are and how much we can build off this success.

Just glad we cleaned up the stupid illegal formation penalties.

We will not be a team that can run between the tackles this year. It's impossible with this line. Outside is where it's at and we've had success. We have to get more creative in the run game. Gimmick up the middle plays won't cut it with no push.

I’m not overly excited about wins and losses yet. I’m just proud of the heart and energy our players showed. I think the 2nd half would’ve played out much differently if Whitson didn’t get hurt.

I was there. Absolutely AMAZING!

After the go ahead touchdown our entire section went freaking NUTS. I'm high fiving complete strangers and some guy behind me hugs me.

We had three ASU folks a few rows up and they were getting cocky after the tie and then the go ahead FG. After the TD they just sat there and never said another word.

We took an ASU guy with us. He was a good sport. Rang the bell after the end. It was his first SEC experience and he was impressed. I told him I was impressed too, that was the first time we were both seeing that production. That was Lebby’s biggest win and came when we needed it. If we let Lebby learn, he may be a damn good Coach.

Just a great game against a VERY solid team, not perfect but still punching till the end will get some wins. Third and goal stop was a sloberknock......outstanding.

On the run-game part. There were some holes last night, particularly in the first half, that we didn't take advantage of. I do not know if those holes were where they were supposed to be but there were several times last night that Booth could have made a cut before the line and hit a running lane that was there or could have bounced it outside and didn't. It was reminiscent of Shumpert back in the day lowering his head and plowing straight ahead no matter where the hole opened.

This offense is not an establish the run early offense. If you are expecting us to run 60% of the time ever with Lebby you're going to be disappointed.

I do agree we need to run the ball better but that's on the offensive line. Hiring Loadholt late probably hurt with that unfortunately. We had to scramble to get linemen in the portal.

We're playing Alcorn and Northern Illinois at a perfect time because now we can hopefully develop some continuity on the line and find some more receivers to help out the offense.

I Traore just plays like crap against Arizona State for some reason. They have a hex on him LOL.

The biggest thing is we won. Big wins usually aren't pretty. This team learned how to win last night and that's the most important thing about last night.

Still just taking it all in. Man i miss being able to go to games.

It just cant be said enough. Last night was the most un-msu way to win a game. When they dominated the 2nd half and tied it up and then we down them at the 5...and they proceed to cut us with a thousand cuts by runs....we all knew this was over. They are gonna milk the clock and score with less than 2 minutes left. When the defense made the tackle at the 3 everyone thought well damn it would likely have been better to let him score ..we would of had all our timeouts and the 2 minute warning to answer back.

But wow. The defense that was sliced up bowed up when they had to inside the 5. Oh how I wish i could get audio of either Lebby or Hutzler said to them...
What a stop...2 yards on 3 carries but not that final one.

Then Shapen just puts that pass on a dime to Thompson who smartly angles at the Ref to get some protection on his way to the endzone.

We never win like that...thats what makes it so special.

Now keep Shapen healthy!!!

Gotta also give a shoutout to the students. We dont win that game without them. They were LOUD rowdy and never let up. Great job by them

The atmosphere was phenomenal. Even though they drove it 95 yards down our throats on the go ahead drive I think the crowd affected them (and kept our guys pumped) at the end of it. The students were very loud.
Did anyone notice that timeouts left was not shown on the scoreboard?

I guess I agree to some degree, let Lebby stick around and we will probably have a not great but a good coach. The last two games were “HUGE” wins but the play calling imo still lacks desirable calls in very important parts of game. Example going for it on 4th down and somewhat long yardage in the 3rd quarter at midfield. Giving Az.St. a short field to let them back in the game. Punt the deadgum ball and make them drive at least 80-90 yards. And adjust the defense to stop the gnashing of running thru us.

Last night’s atmosphere and crowd support of the team was outstanding. It was loud as heck on tv. And it disturbed At.St. team on multiple occasions during the game. Rushing the field post game was absolutely warranted especially for what our fans have had to cheer for the last several years.

I hope Az.St. head coach really enjoyed his visit to Mississippi and discovered that we actually have hotels in Starkvegas that are not casinos. He may need to check with his head of football operations before popping off in a press conference.

Again last night’s win was really great! Let’s go Dawgs and HailState!

Just remember Lebby is 41 and a first time HC. This is the first year he has offensive personnel to do what he wants too. Wayyyyy too early to know he can?t be a great top tier HC. One thing all HC do well that Lebby has got figured out is motivation and discipline.

There were no adjustments to be made inside. They were whipping our ass. Not much you can do as a DC when that is happening. Very concerning moving forward

Agree on the playcalling. Lebby is Mullen all over again. Makes some great calls but has stretches of wtf???? during games

Pinto

I?ll add that we need one punter and to stick with that punter. Not sure why we?re swapping back and forth when one guy was booming.

I worry come SEC time and stopping the run. Not sure if shooting gaps or slanting will even work to slow up the run. We even went to a 5 man front last night and got gashed. It is going to be our weak spot this year and greatest portal need next year. We already knew though we were light on SEC DL, especially top end guys.

We had a 4th down play call that, had the RB got free out of the line of scrimmage, we had a possible TD.
That was a good call, and just could not get our guy out of the traffic.

Unfortunately most coaches are this way. The "great and mighty" lane kiffin does the exact same thing.

Has Lebby addressed this? I would bet you anything it was a hard count to draw them offsides and the center is told to snap it someone jumps. They did, so he did... refs didn't call it.

Agreed. I have been saying for two weeks. We need to run on the outside and use that and a TE as an option on a quick sit down if Shapen pulls it. It is time to put their LB in peril.

Man it felt good to get a legit win again! Was jealous I couldn't be there but the it looked & sounded electric on TV!

The offense still needs to get more consistent. Went pretty much 2.5 quarters of frustrating offensive football. Run game is a concern. Defense getting gashed in the run game 2nd half is a concern. With both of those said, each unit stepped up in the make or break moment and got it done!

Hats off to Lebby and team. I know it feels good to get that major win monkey off their back

Wasn't just like it but the first night game at Davis Wade against #4 LSU in the cold, clear, beautiful night under temp lights brought in just for this game. LSU had just beaten Bama at Bama. State with a losing record had just gotten Ernie (monster) Barnes back at some others from injury. John Bond, Michael Haddix, a human bowling ball at wide receiver and a kicker from Louisiana. Drove down the field and kicked a long field goal......One of the top 5 “DOG" games I have ever witnessed......and did I mention WICKEDLY COLD! Our media team needs to pull up video from that game for the hype video.......The entire game is on youtube. Also beating Jim Kelly and the Hurricanes was probably the most nerve meltdown games at DW stadium.

Yes the DL got pushed around in the 2nd half but they were on the field for a long time. I don’t think you can take one game and say that is going to happen the rest of the season. And if we can hold a supposed “Heisman” QB to barely a hundred yards while giving up 200 on the ground we should take that any day.

There are teams in our league that aren’t going to commit to the running game like that. And even after the Scatter Boo debacle last year we were more than respectable in many league games against the run even with a FCS defensive line.
