We are all behind you dude. Today you will make the play that starts to define you as a player and a Bulldog.
Get it done. Let it fly.

When it looked it worse, and Dawgs were down by 3 and ready to come for the final drive of the game. The cameras panned to the Dawgs sideline and focused on Shapen. He had a look of confidence as if he knew there was one final play that was going to take us to victory. That look that Shapen had is one of the things we so desperately have needed.

Shapen looked comfortable all night. It was driving me nuts, but obviously he knew what he was doing.

Is anybody else surprised at what appears to be designed rush for him? Not a knock on him at all, but as injury prone as he's been you would think those plays wouldn't be in the book when he's under center. He's definitely our best weapon at the position now and we need him for more than 4 games.

The one thing he should’ve done twice last night was thrown the ball away instead of
getting sacked. Other than that he graded out as an A to me.

He's a baller. Very Baker-esq in his approach. I like it.

Do you pray hard for a recurrence of an injury on your own players or do you just enjoy wishing it on MSU guys?

Yes. The answer is yes. He loves nothing more than saying he was right about something, regardless how stupid.
But ask him about his nickname!

No because the QB run is a part of this particular offense. I get Shapen has injury issues but I've always felt like if you try to protect a player that actually seems to make them more injury prone and it seems to affect how they play. To me, with him it's more about being smarter when he is running the ball- like sliding and going out of bounds more.
Now, once Shapen graduates I suspect we will use more designed QB runs similar to Oklahoma when Lebby was the OC.

In no way, shape, or form did I wish for a recurrence of injury. The chances of him making it thru a season without injury is extremely small. It is what it is

In the 42 games where he has been the scheduled starter barring injury, he's started 30 of those. 71.4%. Not great, but I would not call that extremely small.
2 for 2 in 2021.
13 for 13 in 2022.
8 for 12 in 2023.
4 for 12 in 2024.
3 for 3 in 2025.
Now just about every qb deals with injuries through the year. But if we are talking about the chance he plays in all 12 games, I would not label that chance "extremely small."

If Shapen has his mind made about what receiver and route he is throwing.....WHY doesn’t coaching MAKE him to look the other receiver down he knows he isn’t throwing to.....and come back to what he knows he will throw to????.......I just don’t understand.....that one move would open up sooooo many routes......

You mean like the pump fake to draw the defense on the first TD pass vs ASU?
Also, he doesn't always have his mind made up pre snap of where the ball will go. The picture changes sometimes.

I stand corrected, on the winning TD throw he glanced to his left......

Shapen is not an RPO QB. But he can make the throws we need at this point in our recovery. Next year's starting QB will be an RPO QB.

I hope not. RPOs suck and should be called fewer than 20% of the time. Analytics back this statement up.

3 year starter coming into the season- missed significant time in 2 of them. We shall see. Hope he makes it.

To be fair our offensive line was awful due to making terrible hires in Friend and Kennedy. At least this year it has shown a little improvement although still a weakness from the last two duds
