View Full Version : Arizona State - I don't see it.

Alright, I will start this by saying we have to play a clean game Saturday and execute better at literally every position to win this game, but I am not seeing ASU as that big of a challenge as some of you are making it out to be.

They are a solid team. No doubt. I am just saying Skattabo last year is what did us in. Without that guy, I am telling you, we win that game last year. I am going on record, we play a good solid game and win this off the backs of Evans, Treore, Booth, and Shapen. I think we win this 30-17.

In Lebby's 13 games as Head Coach, how many of those would you say we've played a clean game with a high level of execution?

I don't either. I think it's ~5th easiest game on our schedule. Maybe 4th since Ark and Mizzou are on the road.

Agreed. Lebby, last year we lost by 10 pts or less to #7 ASU on the road (playoff team), #6 Georgia on the road (Playoff Team), and by 12 pts to ranked Ole Miss on the road.
We were in the game with Texas until Arch was allowed to run with 3 holds on 3rd and forever. Now Texas was going to beat us anyway, but at the critical moment Texas got blind refs for a couple plays.

Point being, we were not just blown out last year left and right. We played not great, but I believe we are actually a marginally better team this year. We will not have the worst defense in our school's history this year. We will have a better running attack. And Shapen is better than MVB.

ASU has to play a clean game too. They had a bunch of penalties against NAU. About 30k+ cowbells Saturday night will not help that situation.

The score last year really blinded a lot of us. They dominated and we mounted a comeback by them just handing to Skat anytime they had the ball and milking clock. Without an 80 yard TD pass late we still lose by 14.

Leavitt and Tyson still bring that offense a scary dynamic and let?s admit it, timing is everything. Playing a team when they are top 10 is just harder than when both are sitting at 4-3 or whatever. We have a whole lot against us to overcome but I think we have it.

As long as we play gritty and do not let them get an early lead taking the crowd out of it we can match up with them and I still think they finish top 3 in the big 12

As long as we can get the running game going and hope it is 100% humidity Sat night we can wear them down. And also we don't drop a few sure TDs again.

If we can just tackle the ball carrier on initial contact, we should win the game, and don?t drop TD?s, we should win the game. The tackling or lack there of was utterly amazing last year at this time.

This. They beat our ass last year. It was never in doubt. They were coasting to run the clock get the game over.

With that being said-them having that stud RB was a big part of that and he is gone. We are certainly improved and will be at home. We def have a chance to win the ballgame and it should be a good one. D needs to continue getting better and OLine has to play better as well. It would help if Shapen is able to dodge injury another game. I worry that every game he takes the field will be his last. I expect us to be ready and good game is played.

A win is doable, but we have to clean up the penalties and OL has to play much better. I hope we ground and pound them into submission and then hit deep shots. Win TOP and keep their offense on the sidelines by running the ball. We have a chance but a lot has to be cleaned up.

Winnable but as mentioned by others we have to play cleaner.

I?d also like to see the offense hum the whole first half. Seems last year we were always playing from behind and even against USM the offense didn?t find its footing until the 3rd quarter

That loss? Ten points? It was 30-3 and ASU started coasting, put in a bunch of 2nd and 3rd stringers and we got a couple late scores. Final scores can be misleading.

You're being deceiving also. State's 3 TDs in 2nd half were with 2:29 left in 3rd, 13:09 left in 4th, and 5:27 left in 4th. So it was a 14 pt game with 13:09 left and a 7 pt game with 5:27 left. And they won by 7, not 10

That's my take. The game last year was by no means as close as the final score. Wasn't ASU up 30-3 at one point or something like that. It's great we made the comeback but most of the game was not competitive.

Agree we have a chance here if we play a clean, sound game with few penalties and no turnovers but haven't see us play any of those type games recently.

Tends to happen when you have a hard nosed RB going against a defensive front who are not very talented and the bone headed DC only playing 5 in the box.

I think any game that is a one score game is labeled as competitive. There were 5 minutes in the game when we scored the last touchdown... If the roles were flipped, you guys would be saying that they played us tough.. Not sure why our fans are the way they are in that regard.

Yep we cut our own team both ways; I don't see any other fan base to that to their own teams. It was a close game, we played real bad first half but beat them in the 2nd half.

This game comes down to their DL and our OL and backs. I say backs because we have the depth to wear them own in 2nd half if we can just get stops and keep it close, kinda like USM

It's good that State didn't quit last year and kept fighting even when an almost certain loss was at hand. That is impressive and is encouraging that they kept fighting but ASU had let up once up that big. Not that they weren't still playing hard but backups were in the game a lot more and so was the play calling and not just on offense. They played defense to make us drive down the field and eat up the clock.

I hope you are right and State kicks their butts.

Our fans have always been this way. It's the biggest difference between us and ole miss fans.
I can 100% guarantee you that if we beat Arizona State, then it's because they are way overrated. Just an average team and not worthy of playing an SEC team. Now if ole miss were to play them and beat them, it would be championed from one end of the earth to the other by every ole miss fan alive. It would be hailed as another incredible top 10 win by the Mighty Rebels!!!!!
There would be talks of playoffs and heisman contenders!!!! Big time!!!!

Lol. I'm 58. I've lived it.

If we start the season 5-0 with a program changing win against Tennessee, it's because they lost their QB and they will surely lose 4-5 more games this season.

I'm not sure how we lose this mentality. I don't know if it can be changed.

Another example would be this past weekend. If we best Georgia State 63-7 our fans would be like "yeah well that's Georgia State and they suck. I'm worried because our QB threw 2 interceptions and our defense had some trouble against the run."

Ole Miss would make a damn bumper sticker and have the Clarion-Ledger put out a coffee table book if they beat Arizona State.

Give me the 6.5 for a ban bet or $50 to the board. Man up

I'll give you the opening line. Ban bet it is, through baseball season.. If I contribute $50 to anything msu football related, it won't be on here.

You are drunk and taking a ban bet from a poster that never posts and just said he won't put money towards State on this site.
I object.

Ban bet denied!!!!

The only advantage we have is that it's a home game. If Lebby wins this one, he's got a Golden Horseshoe stuck up his ass in the offseason. We better be physical or they're going to wipe the floor with us.

They had a NFL running back against our dreadful defense at home last year.

I know their QB is a Heisman candidate but they don't have Scooby-Doo anymore and without question our defense is much better than last year. We're better on offense too IMO.

I don't know if we will win or not- but I do think it will be a close game and it won't be easy for Arizona State by any stretch of the imagination.

Glad I'm not the only one who notices this.

After we win Saturday night, we'll be 2-0 with wins on the road against Southern Miss and at home against a top 10-11 Playoff team.
If ole miss wins they will be 2-0 with wins against Kentucky and Georgia Southern.

We will be projected to end up 4-9 or 5-7. They will be projected to make the playoffs.

Calm down fellas. If we win, it?s not because we?re better. It?s clearly because they suck.****

Yep this is the MSU fanbase in a nutshell. Seen it my whole life; on the other side with OM; they beat 4 cupcakes to start the season averaging 70 a game and they claim they are NC contenders. Happens every year. Why are MSU fans like this? My kids even turned out like this and I trained them opposite? Do they teach a class at MSU how to hate your team or you don't graduate?

Instead of being excited for hosting a top 10 team at home, at night.. We are on here debating shit that don't matter. Big time game tomorrow, we need to be locked in. This is one of the 2-3 games Saturday that are worth watching for the average football fan.

Because we are State fans? So we watch State?

They took TX to overtime in last year's playoffs and from what I have read they only lost Scattaboo from that team. Said he has been replaced by another 1000 yard rusher from the portal that we also tried to get. We have our work cut out for us and a win will indeed be an upset that will gain much needed hope and national attention. Get it! Hail State!

He is wrong. They were playing their starters. We mounted a comeback. And if our run game could have done anything we win that game.

This year is a completely different year. We will get their best shot. We, if we play physical, will win. Outright.

Why are they worse exactly? Skataboo? They return most of the front 7 who stopped our run game, a potential NFL QB and first round WR.

I think it?s too early to say they are better or worse this year but I do believe the matchup for us is much better this year. We didn?t know how bad our front 7 was last year by game 2 but we sure found out

Called it.
