Rewatching Our Game

#54 on the OL got worked and for some reason couldn?t line up.

Defensive front played well, but didn?t get any pressure. If we rushed 3, they got zero push. When we played 4 DL, we looked better. We actually got in our own way a couple times keeping us from getting to the QB.

Offense didn?t throw the ball down field for like 3 quarters. Running game on the edge was pretty good, pretty terrible up the middle.

I am glad we won. Should have had two more TDs that would have netted us 11 more points. Glad we made it out in pretty good health overall.

Steen getting hurt could have been a blessing in disguise, thought we looked much better when Jimothy came in the game. Work didn't play either, and think the OL only gets better when he gets back. Think that was our only injury, great start to the season getting a W and coming out of a road game with no other injuries. our secondary looked pretty good and we didn't even play Jett. Not sure Stonka played back there either, I thought he'd get rotated in a lot this year.

We got better when we started running the ball at the start of the 3rd. Don't know if Leb just simplified the plays but we started running between the hashes and let the OLine push N @ S.

I have NEVER been a fan of three man front. Was it 2007 the “DOGS” played W Virginia up there and got absolutely killed by them running the ball on our 3 man front. When Dogs finally went to a four man front in pretty much shut them down as well as we could the rest of the game.

My initial thoughts, we are a much better team. Made some good portal purchases in Fluff, Thompson, Evans, and Owens. I thought Boone played well. Obviously have to clean up the penalties. And Lebby had a couple of bad series playcalling wise. Can?t have too many east/west plays in the SEC. Shapen played well other than 1 pass. He had good zip on his ball and was accurate. Backs have to pick up the free rusher. That should get corrected.

Defensively, team speed is better. Depth is better. Lanier played well. 2 is a player. Jones had a nice game at corner, so did 4. Whitson was a good pickup. Seem a lot of complaints about the 3 man front- I think that was fine against what USM wanted to do. Hopefully we see more 4 man next week. Sylla looked good to.

Big game next Saturday if we want to win 6.

I am going to give Shapen a break on his pick. That was a phenomenal effort by the D there. Just like Lanier?s pick.

I will say this, none of our offensive plays today put USM in a bind. And that may be a problem.

The TD that USM scored was pretty lucky. If our player doesn't tip the ball, it would have landed incomplete. It was way behind the receiver

We need to run a jet sweep with Thompson. He is electric. The holding on his TD callback was a horrible play by our Wideout...

I thought our D looked alot better. Alot faster and swarmed to the ball. I think we played very vanilla. We didnt blitz hardly any.

Yeah I hate it too. I guess if you have Jones, Simmons or Cox but almost no body has that up front even Bama. We have got to adjust our approach if we want to compete.

True but that may be good. We ran vanilla and still made it work. I think USM is much improved; we'll find out what we are made of this week.

Couple more thoughts = Jones looks like an NFL corner - physical, long, good instincts. Whitson was a great grab in portal and so was Fluff.

OL concerns me but Work being out and I don't think we had the right group out there much of game. We must figure that out this week. Play clean this week to have a chance.

USM scored on a lucky tip for a TD, a turnover for 3 and a garbage TD with a minute left on the third string defense.

I kind of wonder if Work being out threw off the OL chemistry. However, Steen knows better. He was a starter at Virginia.
