He's going to be Charlie Weis 2.0. Keeps getting jobs and buyouts.

We have an unfortunate history of hiring supposedly up and coming Asst. Coaches to serve as OTJ Training HC's for our football program in my years of being a State fan. The only two that have been successful on the field in my lifetime are Bob Tyler (Probation as OM and the SEC had to keep us in our place) and Dan Mullen (Serial job hunter after his annual loss to bama). The jury box will be filling on Lebby this year in my opinion.

of all the legit complaints about cohen as our AD his most egregious mistake was hiring JoMo. but it's the fact that he was fooled by such a clown in the interview process is what makes it so horrendous. anyone with legit sense could tell immediately that this guy had the approach and leadership abilities of 7th grade football coach fresh out of college that had never even started on their own high school team. cohen had his mind made up before meeting him. absolutely awful.

Hindsight being 20/20, it should've been the red flag of all red flags that James Franklin basically helped him pack his bags on the way out of Penn State. I do agree though that Cohen had his mind made up before he even met Moorhead. Which is also why some of the other rumored candidates( again rumored and probably will never be confirmed) such as Kyle Whittingham, Mark Stoops, Neal Brown(probably dodged a bullet there) didn't even get a chance to interview.

I also remember watching the cut ups of his offense that everyone was posting all excited about and knew good and damn well Nick Fitzgerald couldn't run that offense if his life depended on it.

I guess you all are smarter than the rest of the world because he was named the top assistant coach in CFB by every sports publication in the country. He owes Saquan half of every dollar he’s made.

Apparently neither can the highly recruited QBs at Akron.***

If you don't have an RB that is head and shoulder better than everyone on the field, then the offense doesn't work. That's why it worked at Penn St and worked at Fordham. He had Edmonds at Fordham who was an NFL back and then obviously had Barkley at Penn St. It doesn't matter who the QB is, if the defense number 1 concern isn't the RB then the offense struggles. That's why it worked against Auburn that night, to an extent. Nick was just another RB.

Unfortunately he falls into the Croom category of coaches that refuse to change what they do regardless of their personnel. Les Miles did this at LSU and lost his job in the process. Malzahn is looking like he is starting to be that guy as well. We'll see this season.

Gus' problem is that everyone does his offense now. He was early on the RPO stuff and now everyone runs it so everyone knows how to defend it. If you can't adapt, then you can't win long term.

That's the name of the game. Some guys are too hardheaded or dumb to adapt.

Saban has gone from an I ball control coach to a Spread system. Philosophy is the same- but the offense has adapted. Lame Kitten was a West Coast O guy but now is full on Spread/RPO. I've personally gone from double wing option offense to spread and now back to double wing option football. (with the players we have- chosen to be that "different" team people have to prepare for)

I love the double wing option football for high school especially if your QB isn't much of a thrower but can run. I've seen those inside trap plays run off an inside wing handoff go for 7 or 8 yards right down the field.

Cohen had the funny strategy of calling other AD’s and asking who they would recommend. You would like to think everyone would be professional and on the up and up but college sports is about winning. No one. No one…is going to recommend anyone high on their backup list or who they see as being a real contender. It just doesn’t happen.

Ranks up there as possibly the best hire in MSU history.

I'd bet my last nickel Cohen couldn't spell 'targeted selection', much less conduct the process even somewhat effectively. He was a good baseball coach and never should have been installed as AD. He had no clue.

Just an awful hire by Cohen. So glad Moorhead and Cohen are both gone.

Cohen is a mixed bag. Good player at State. Good baseball coach at State. Was the deciding vote to hire Mullen. Hired Lemon and he won our only school Natty. Hired Jan who has resurrected our basketball program.

To say Cohen was terrible or bad is just being ridiculous. He wasnt perfect and damn sure made some mistakes. No AD is perfect and they all make bad hires. U gonna blame Cohen for hiring Andy? Greg Byrne hired a gambling addict as his baseball coach. Was JoMo a bad hire? Well hell yeah. But he wasnt as bad as Croom being hired by Templeton. Templeton had known coaches he could hire that were pretty good. Hiring Crooms strictly as a DEI hire was ridiculous. At least JoMo had some hype behind him. Nobody knew wtf Sylvester Croom was when we hired him.

My big knock on Cohen was the lack of hires in marketing and then the ignoring of NIL hoping it wouldnt happen when everybody damn well knew it was about to happen. Auburn hired him to handle its coaches- they didnt hire him to work with money or marketing.

Cohen fell into Lemonis after he overplayed his hand with other candidates. Lemonis did win an NC just not sure how much Lemonis really had to do with it. Jan was an ok hire. The whole story of him being the deciding factor on Mullen is lol

Jan's is much better than an "ok" hire.
