View Full Version : Why do we have to wear black uniforms?

Does adidas mandate us to wear black uniforms? I hate black uniforms in any sport as an MSU alum. If you tell me that it?s player driven, then that needs to end.

If you dont think players have input on uniforms you are crazy. We get it. You are old school and traditional. Nothing wrong with that. But times are changing ..well have changed.

Black uniforms are here to stay.
But maybe lets not wear them in September...

Well, the color is associated with sadness, loss and mourning. Which, to lay odds, is going to be appropriate for our season performance. *****

I believe you would be incorrect if you believe the players have no input as to uniform combinations. . . . . . .

It's not a bad secondary color for MSU. I know historically speaking the baseball team wore black in the early 1900's.

I'm fine with it for one OOC game a year.

The baseball team had magical powers in the black jerseys from 2018-2019

We have to pay the mfers! No business giving them uniform colors that are not original colors of the university. How many SEC have altered their school colors for athletes? That?s ?Templeton dumb?! Old school?.well I?m a former player that believes in the school and our traditions. Black is not one of them!

Those were hideous uniforms, and had nothing to do with our success.

I apologize for the rant! I?m curious, how many times have we won in black in football? I really don?t know.

We should have a few "theme" uniform games every year. Like the whole team could wear uniforms inspired by dragons, wizards, Star Trek uniforms, Power Rangers, etc. It would get a lot of attention for the school.

Especially in September. Hell, black is too hot for home games in Starkville the entire year minus game 11 and 12, maybe.

Give it a few years because of the soaring cost of keeping players in the next few years we will be wearing these,

How many other SEC teams wear all black? Asking for a friend.**** Teams with tradition that win don't have to use these gimmicks and other fans know exactly who they are when they hit the field. Our colors are maroon and white and as Thick posted our players are now being paid well to represent them.

SC/Tenn/Candy/Georgia off the top of my head wear black in some shape or form during the season

It's what the players like and thats why we do it. We arent a winning team with tradition (altho Georgia is and they still wear black) and have to do things like wear black to attract players

Exactly just paying them is not enough. 18 year olds absolutely consider uniforms. Hell AJ Brown just said on a podcast he did not consider UGA bc they wear black socks

Agree. We don't need to be wearing black in any of our sports. Stick with MS State colors of maroon and white all the time. You don't see traditional teams like Penn State and Alabama changing uniform colors.

Black isn?t the issue.
Just don?t wear them when the game is going to be 100+ degrees. It is beyond dumb.

Practically everyone has done it - Kentucky, A&M, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, even Florida.

The only schools I have not seen wear it are OM, Bama, Auburn, LSU, and Texas.

And UGA has black as a primary color, they can of course do it as much as they want.

If we?re going to wear black it should be to honor Leach with the Jolly Roger on the helmet. Once maybe twice, but only night games. At least be smart about it!

I remember reading that baseball changed to maroon after football chose the color. Before that they wore black, white, and grey.

Nearly every major team has a variety of alternate uniforms and color patterns. Oregon made it very popular several years ago with all of the different uniform combinations they put together and yes young kids like to see it and be part of it. I understand alot of the old school fanbase doesn't care for it but it is mostly about recruiting. I personally don't mind it, I just want to see wins and could care less.

I think the novelty has worn off. All the talk of branding, wearing the same helmet every game like Bama would be good for brand recognition.

2 good uniforms would be great. It would also save money. Look at MTSU.

I have a teenager playing High School football right now and as dumb as it sounds to us, these kids love the variety of different "drip" as they call it. They want to look good while playing good, I get on my son about it all the time. Only a few teams out there have that brand recognition of only wearing 2 to 3 uniforms, one being Bama. Even traditional programs like Notre Dame have vastly expanded their colors and options... this has been going on for several years now and I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

UGA has a black uniform
Ohio St has grey and black alternates
Michigan has a yellow alternate
Notre Dame has green and they have one special alt a year
Penn St has started introducing some alternate elements

Same and its not just jersey and pant colors. Its all the accesories too- turf tape, eye black, glove color and style, the pre-wrap under the kneecap, all the different types of mouthpieces (some guys will have a practice and then a game one), wrists being taped, shoes being spatted. Getting dressed for games now is a damn fashion show

I don't keep up with Penn State much, but I don't think I've ever seen them wear anything different from their traditional uniforms. What "alternate elements" have they introduced?

It's their generations of greatness alternate that they started in 2017. It's subtle though. Added numbers to the helmets, white face-mask instead of blue, different number font on their jersey and white shoes instead of black.
