View Full Version : Will we see a lot of coaching turnover after the season?

I think the house settlement plus outrageous buyouts kept coaches from being fired this offseason. Now that schools know what they are dealing with I could see a lot of turnover this offseason. Every SEC coach is back from last year and I can't remember that ever happening before.
I think Arkansas definitely makes a change and I could see Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Kentucky, and Oklahoma making changes as well. I think Florida has a good year and keeps Napier. Could also see Florida State come open as well outside the conference.
That's a lot of movement in one offseason with some really high profile jobs available.

Florida- Napier has a better team in 2025. He also has the toughest schedule in the country. I dont think 8-4 saves him. I think it's win 9+ or bust for him.
UPig- He better win at least 7 and probably 8 to keep his job.
LSU- LSU hates him and he hates LSU. Signing him to a stupid contract has made this marriage ugly. He needs to make the playoffs or its going to be very ugly.
Bama- they arent firing The Bore. They will win 9+. He aint Saban tho and they will start to get louder if he doesnt make the playoffs.
OU- they are losing patience there
Auburn- this will be an interesting watch
Kentucky- like us, their program is dying. They were a developmental program also.

Florida- I think Billy is safe at 7-5. It'll be rocky but I think he'd be safe.
Arky- They brought Petrino in to the be the successor. I think Sam "retires" at years end and Petrino will take over. Unless they could convince Rhett Lashlee to take it.
LSU- They're stuck with Kelly no matter what happens. I think he makes the playoffs FWIW but even if he doesn't they won't make a move.
Bama- 9-3 will get iffy. Anything worse and they got some money people who'd make the move happen. They will not let their dynasty die.
OU- They better pray that Arbuckle and Mateer can revive that offense. And then they need to pray every year after that Venables can continually find a good OC and QB match. Most of their fans want him gone.
Auburn- If Hugh is anything worse than 4-1 at the end of September he won't make it. Friday August 29th will be the biggest game so far of the Hugh Freeze era at Auburn. He desperately needs that one. And then he needs to split @OU and @A&M. Probably needs @OU worse because that would justify the Jackson Arnold transfer.
Kentucky-Stoops doesn't want to be there and they don't want to fire him. It's a bad situation. I'd look for him to be on the move at the end of the year regardless of what their record is. And I do think they'll be better.
I think outside of the SEC, you could see Michigan make a move if Moore doesn't take a huge jump forward. Lincoln is on very shaky ground at SC if they don't win 9+. Also, if Norvell has another disappointing season all eyes will be affixed on Lane Kiffin. That's who they had targeted had Norvell taken the Bama job.

I said before last season I didn?t see a scenario in which Petrino would take over for Pittman, just because if the offense is good enough to justify it then it probably means the season went well enough to not move on from Pittman. But sure enough Arkansas finished last season around 10th in total offense and barely got bowl eligible lol

If things go sideways though I'm sure he would be the obvious interim at least. Not sure he would be the long term guy but I guess he could get a tryout essentially to see what happens.

Forida has a stretch weeks 2-6 which will likely determine what happens with them. I can't see 7-5 saving him but after the way they finished last season I'm bullish on them.
It just feels like Arkansas is ready to move on from Pittman. We'll see if it's Petrino long term or not. Their early season games against Ole Miss and Notre Dame are pretty big for Pittman. They have to be careful at Memphis too. Last month of the season looks pretty difficult as well.
LSU- you know it's funny. I haven't heard anyone say anything about Kelly being fired. Most LSU fans I know seem indifferent about him. Honestly, their schedule seems fairly manageable after they play Clemson so if they win game one they could build some momentum kind of like they did in 2019 when they beat Texas in Austin. I'm just going to take the homefield advantage that they have with Florida this year and guess that Kelly saves himself for now. Of course, we need to see how healthy Nussmeier is.
Alabama- I think DeBoer needs to make the playoffs. They may want to get in on the Kiffin sweepstakes before Florida and FSU do. That said, if DeBoer makes the playoffs they have the luxury of knowing that Kiffin left Tennessee after one year already in his career. Could come down to the Iron Bowl and it is at Auburn this year.
Oklahoma- I think this partially depends on if their AD situation is resolved or not.
Auburn- I'm not sure I see Freeze going much better than 9-3. Is 9-3 with an Iron Bowl win enough? I'm not sure. Probably? If Freeze can pick off Oklahoma and A&M on the road he could have a really good year there.
Kentucky- looking at their schedule it feels like 6-6 is the best they can do. Toledo could be a problem for them and then they have Ole Miss coming in for a payback game. That could be enough to get the wheels rolling to fire him.

I think Fla and Ok are better than people think. Both have tough schedules like we do though.
The scheduling imbalance in the league is a huge story that doesn't get talked about enough.

I think Arkansas and Auburn are the teams that could see movement. I think Florida wins 8 games and Napier is good.

I think Pittman is the one that will probably get the ax this year. Petrino will most likely have the offense good, but their defense still has a lot of question marks. If we can step up and have a mistake free game I could see us winning that, assuming all the pieces come together for us. No idea what UK will do about Stoops. He will probably get 1 more year to compensate for all the good years. Auburn and UF will both go 8-4 to save Napier and Freeze. OU will go either 8-4 or 9-3 so I think Venables will be saved. I don't see any other coaches that will be on the hot seat this year in the league. I am not really sold on South Carolina being as good as advertised, but Beamer is safe after his season last year. LSU will not be happy if BK doesn't make the playoffs, but the schedule basically assures 8 wins so I don't see movement this year, but the next year could definitely be a different sign if there is no improvement.

Stoops is the best thing to happen to Kentucky since Bear Bryant. I don't think they are moving on from him for while longer. He's built up some grace.
I don't think Freeze is saved this season. A mediocre season with a loss to Bama and AU may move on.
Sunbelt Billy may be hitting his stride but Florida fans won't tolerate 8-4 seasons. His seat is still pretty warm.
South Carolina ain't getting rid of Beamer anytime soon.
LSU is in the same boat as Florida. They don't like 8-4/9-3 seasons. They want 12-0/11-1 and playoffs.
I think we beat Arkansas and Pittman retires. Petrino may be the coach in waiting. We'll see.
Another season like last season and Deboar's seat gets pretty damn fuego at Bama. He gets one more season after this to make the playoffs or he's gone.
I think Oklahoma will be fine. They'll win enough to keep Venables.
It will be interesting to see if Kiffin finally moves on. If OM misses the playoffs again I can see him move on to FSU if Norvell is canned.
