Yes, BOC is in communication with a few more portal guys and a SS is definitely in play.

I didn’t know there was a big one left in the portal- hopefully we are tampering

I think it’s the Cal State Fullerton SS if that’s true

There are still several really good SS left.

Not elite but with the way our lineup is shaping up, we don't need elite.

Well, we are going to have to sign a SS whether elite or not. We have Woodson who could play the position but I think he played more 3B and 2B at NC State. We have to have another legitimate SS on the roster. Jojo Parker could start there day 1 but the odds of getting him to school is probably less than 1%.

Maddox Lotta from Cal State Fullerton would be pretty close to elite. Defensively he has the best metrics and he had 30+ steals there. Also had more walks than K's.

He doesn't have the power that Becker has or the pro ceiling but he is a much better defender and brings some other valuable things to the table.

Sounds really good, gets on base and plays defense.

We just need a really good glove who can hit about .250 and put down a bunt when needed.

Lotta is a really good glove who can hit over .300 with 5 bombs and steal 20-30 bases.

2B from UVA - Henry Godbout is in the portal

Wonder if he can be the SS. Plays SS in summer ball. BOC would know his range for SS.

Pre Season All American in 2025

Trick is that he is an NYC kid, same Prep School as Henry Ford, and he is draft eligible.

Near 500 on base percentage - ideal leadoff man.

But draft eligible, 4 years in college already. Smells like draft Draft Leverage?

Godbout is the #72 rated draft prospect

They specifically say that he could be a SS but needs time there to prove it. One position higher than Henry Ford.

Perhaps. And I say perhaps because he went JUCO first so he may or may not have some leverage.

Yup.

And speaking of that, this new draft time is way worse than it was before. Yeah, it was weird having guys drafted while literally playing in OMAHA, but that only impacts a few players/teams. This new time slot FU<KS everyone!

Just tamper and get people without entering the portal post-draft. Miami/Wisconsin case fixing to show the portal windows are a joke.

Wisconsin better hope this does not get into discovery. All Miami will have to do is start digging into the Caleb Williams stuff. Wisconsin was tampering heavily and thought they had him.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's not very forgiving for teams that lose key players.

The only ones gaining anything out of this are the lawyers

Yep

The portal does not have any legal standing and players merely have to test it legally and it all falls apart. Professionals don't have to tell their bosses and managers that we want to look for a new position and the manager to sign off. That only happens within the company, would be like going from Pitcher to Outfielder in the same team. But if you want to leave Tallahassee and pitch in Starkville, you can just unenroll in Tallahassee and enroll in Starkville. That's it. At any time. You don't need permission from anyone.

Student athletes have always been able to transfer schools whenever they want just like a regular student. They can even be put on scholarship at the new school immediately just like a regular student. The only stipulation is immediate eligibility to play which is what you maintain by following the transfer portal rules. It's literally the only minor thing left to protect schools from mass desertion of players at any time. I've still never really understood why the NCAA has lost so much control of eligibility requirements via the courts. Do athletes even have to pass their courses anymore?

That's my point, the lawyers and players want the right to dessert at will and during the season. I wish I had the link, but it's coming. LSU gets a key injury in November and LSU needs a RB for the playoffs, a OK State player enrolls at LSU to play in the SEC championship game and beyond for LSU. The rule preventing this cannot be defended in court.

I am not "for" this garbage, just saying.
