I know it's been said in the past that Cam doesn't have an NBA game. And I can't really argue with that but the Houston Rockets just signed him to a Summer League contract. While it is still a long shot, if you know anything about the NBA, Cameron Matthews fits right into Ime Udoka's system like a glove. If he were to ever make an NBA roster this is the team he would make. Some fans on Rocket sights like his intangibles and are hoping his defense can replace Dillon Brooks (a guy they just lost).
The NBA is a league full of roles, everyone wont be LeBron or Steph but there are guys in the League strictly for shooting, defense and rebounding, 3 and D guys etc. Again, it will probably be a long shot but Im happy he gets this opportunity.

Hey Hardin made a living coming off the bench. Cam can be that person.

Go Cam!
It is a longshot, for sure with the lack of outside game.
He could be a specialist type player, as you suggest, which is totally his game.
With his on-court observation skills, he would have a field day stealing passes in the NBA.

I could definitely see him "like" a (late career) Andre Iguodala. He doesn't have the shooting, obviously, but he actually has very good court vision, passing, and cleaning up the boards.

Warriors is where I wanted him to go. Learn from Jimmy and Draymond. Become full Tony Allen / Andre Roberson.
And go in the gym and shoot corner 3s every day 500 on each side. Then 500 FTs. He'd eventually become playable.

Learning behind Green and Butler would have been awesome for Cam as well, but Im not sure how well he would have fit into their Offense, I wouldn't have minded that either for him though.
But in my opinion he naturally fits so well into what Udoka does. Udoka has a no nonsense defensive minded, tough nosed coaching style that literally caters to how Cam plays. He has been very successful using that style as well. One thing we all know that Cam will do is play very hard tough nosed basketball

Yea I'm more looking at what he'd be doing in practice and expect him on a G-League somewhere. He's got the makings of a consistent role guy in the NBA if he can just hit open looks at a 33% clip and FTs at a 70% clip. But that's going to take work.
My fear with the Rockets is they'll make his strengths stronger. But that doesn't turn him playable. A stud defender who can't shoot 50% from FT or make but 20% of 3s is just a black hole on offense. Effectively 4 on 5.

Through 2 games Cam hasn't done much. He is starting and playing good minutes but only has 1 point and 8 rebounds through two games.
Tolu Smith on the other hand has had double doubles in both games for the Pistons. He played for them last season on a two way and played well for them in real NBA games. Its going to be hard keeping him off the court, he is looking really good.

Yeah I watched todays game and Cam looked lost and outmatched most of the game on offense and defense.

Yes he did but surprisingly he got signed to a two way contract with them today.. Apparently Udoka and the staff like the defensive intensity

Cam is a low risk EXTREMELY high reward guy for them. You get him on the ground floor with a two way deal and if he develops a shot then that's awesome and if he never does, you know you have a defensive stopper who can give you 10-12 minutes if you need to call him up for a stint.

I agree, I've said all along this would be his best team to get a shot at seeing any sort of NBA minutes. He will never be a huge scorer but like u mention, if he can develop a pretty consistent shot, he will be able to play on a team as a defensive guy who can do a little bit of everything. Thats how Draymond Green has been in the league so long

Well and Draymond is also an OK shooter. I mean he's been a 30% 3 pt shooter for 8 of his 13 year career.

I agree, and Draymond had to work to become an OK shooter. He's never been a go to option on offense but you still had to gaurd him. Cam has to add that to his game if he wants to succeed

Love Cam but no part of his game is at an NBA level. Really good versatile college player though

Draymond Green is a moron. I wouldn't want Cam to learn anything from that piece of garbage. I think too highly of Cam.

The dude has 4 rings and is as big of a reason for it as Curry. This is a brain dead take. I'd love Cam to learn directly from a guy who has the same archetype / skill set. Draymond is a top-5 non center defender of all time. You could make the case he's #1. Rodman, Pippen, Kawhi, Jordan probably round out my top 5 there. Moncrief and Payton need rings to sit at this table.
Like he's over competitive and gets away with a ton with the refs in yelling, but the dude knows basketball defense. Like Rodman knows rebounding. They're just savants.

OJ Simpson was a helluva running back. Doesn't mean I would want him to mentor a friend.

There's miles of differences between murdering your wife and punching a teammate in practice.
As a matter of fact, I'd wager most of us who played sports have gotten into a fight in practice. I know I did multiple times. It happens.

Well I guess NBA scouts think otherwise because he signed an exhibit 10 which can turn into a two way. They cut a player to sign him. Obviously they see something in him to at least give him a shot, yes he has limitations but I'm happy for him to at least get a shot.
