Anyone got anything informative, hopeful, or interesting to share or do many even care? Family's approximately 55th consecutive year of 8 to 12 season tickets (Gluttons for punishment**) and can barely see throough my ole "Maroon Colored Glasses", but here goes. Ceiling 6-6, floor 2-10, 0-8 again. We have only hired two assistant coaches to be HC's (we are cheap and learn little from past failures), in my MSU life that were very successful, Tyler and Mullen and I am really worried about Lebby and "staff".

Agree I am concerned about Lebby as well. This is an important year. He must show improvement and like he has ability to lead and get some momentum heading into next year.
6-6 is ceiling but if we win 6 then I can talk myself into 1-2 more wins as well. It would be ASU type turnaround which I don't see but really hoping for 5-6 somehow.

I just don?t see much improvement on the horizon in relation to wins and losses. Defense was a joke last year and what little improvement it showed on the tail end did not warrant keeping Hutzler around. Yet, he is back. We will not score 40 a game against real competition which is what will be required to win games. I hope and pray I am wrong, but I see 3-4 wins tops. I don?t see how we can scratch out 6 with our overall lack of talent and brutal schedule. I need to see something that makes me believe the program is moving up ward instead of staying stagnant.

Unless we see a MASSIVE influx of money and a real commitment to building up that program it will be Vandy level bad for the foreseeable future. Our “big money” boosters for football just really aren’t all that.

Apparently, the school and fans have given up on football so nothing to talk about. I'll enjoy watching our future conference games against Troy on the CW though.

I really don't understand hiring Hutzler to begin with given he knew little to nothing about being a DC. Sounded like Lebby just hiring a buddy. But to double down and keep him made even less sense. Apparently we are counting on a couple of analysts to try and keep Hutzler on the right track. Good luck with that.

Better hope you’re wrong or you can kiss baseball and basketball goodbye too. Can’t afford it without SEC check.

Don't sweat it, we not leaving the SEC. Even if we tank in football, SEC needs us even more then. They gonna need more than one Vandy. Why do you think Vandy stayed all these years.
Don't you know, half the teams loose every weekend. A successful coach told me that once. All SEC teams can't win, someone gonna take the bullet for the blue bloods. It might be us but it don't have to be. They've tried for 100 years to make us that and we just don't give in totally to it although we have taken our share of BS from head office.

Thas why us and other smaller schools need to really target one major sport and become a powerhouse in that sport, IS Kentucky and USCe in both BBs.

Ole Miss doesn't seem to be struggling targeting multiple sports. Fairly certain they just won 9 in Football, Made it to the S16 in mens and women's basketball, hosted a regional in baseball, and made it to the world series in softball. Hell, they made the semis in golf and had a guy win the national championship.
You don't have to target one sport. Like I've said thousands of times though, Ole Miss gets it and they all row in the same direction. They know that being good at football lends itself to being good at the other sports. I know this will shock some people, but other athletes take in the scene at football games for their recruiting visits. So a full stadium and an incredible atmosphere in football helps you get talent in other sports.

It's football time! Those of you thinking football at MSU is dead for us are delusional and do know football. One signing class can change everything. We're going bowling this year!

The resources are there to be competitive in football.
The primary difference in us and Mississippi is we hired leach and they hired kiffin.

Yep pretty much sums it up. Moorhead set us back too so a double hit then followup with ZA. That is a brutal 3 coach stretch. Saban would struggle now.

We've been snake bit since Moorhead. Leach was a lazy hire by Cohen. We basically won the press conference and stole some of OM's thunder away from Kiffin. Refitting the program for the Air Raid was like trying to turn a Harley Hog into a Kawasaki crotch rocket. We are paying for that right now. And Arnett was the dumbest thing we've done so far this century. Yes, worse than Croom. I like Lebby but he's got to show something this season. He's got to beat ASU for one. And Hutzler better be coaching his ass off too.

This and what would competition be if we are ever left out of the next realignment? Would we fill up the Dude in this situation? We have to fix football or else.

You'd be relegated to the G5 level. No other power conference would have a need for us because no other power conference prioritizes baseball, which would be our only chip if football continues to go sideways. Now would you fill up The Dude......probably so but the price of season tickets would be 8-10x higher and the price of the rigs would be 25-50x higher to try and recoup money we'd lose by not being in the SEC. So yea you'd probably still have 8-10K but it'd be a mostly corporate crowd.

Has anyone heard anything from players, or other real sources on what the feel is about defense? It seemed like scheme got a little better as the season went last year. We just didn't have the talent level to compete. Have the transfers upgraded that? Has anyone made a jump in development? Has Hutzler learned and improved?

It will be a lot better. Now, the bar is set very low to be better but we actually look like an SEC defense. Depth wise we will still be a bit thin and the CB opposite Kelley Jones could get adventurous at times but we will be better.
As far as who's made a jump, the names mentioned the most have been Zakari Tillman, Issac Smith, and Hunter Washington. As far as DL, it's all transfers. Everyone in the building is really high on Jamil Burroughs and Will Whitson.
On Hutzler, he learned last year that playing conservatively with what we had just wasn't going to work and he kind of had to start throwing caution to the wind. In that, I think he learned a lot into what could work for the future and out of certain packages. Adding Rhoads and MacIntyre didn't hurt either.

Trap, good comparison with the motorcycle. I got a Harley and had a Honda years ago. Both are motorcycles and that is about where the comparison ends. Like I said in previous post, we screwed up 3 coaching hires in a row. That is hard to do. Then NIL/portal on top of that. We got a massive hole to dig out of. If Lebby does it, he is the man. If not some signs this year, time to get the right man.

If he would've hired Chris Kleiman, an FCS coach at the time, our fan base would've had a mutiny Tennessee and A&M could only dream of having. I mean we talk all the time about how we're serious and you would've wanted to not just not hire a P4 or G5 HC, but an FCS coach. It doesn't matter how successful he was. It would've been viewed quite unfavorably. Kleiman is in a great spot at KSU and he didn't have to really move his recruiting base. Coming here would've shifted him into an unknown recruiting base and the SEC is not a learn as you go conference.
I mean we've got people having a lot of revisionist history on the Moorhead hire. There weren't many people, in our fanbase or out, that were saying we made a bad or questionable hire. Hell there were OM fans who were pissed because he'd been linked to them if Luke wouldn't have been retained in 17.

I don?t care what our fanbase would?ve thought at the time but I advocated for him because he was a fantastic coach and kept winning national titles at a small school. They would?ve got over it once he won 10 or 11 games with the 2018 team. If our fanbase really cared about football they would?ve seen it was the best hire at the time and we wouldn?t have witnessed our players looking like dweebs when we played KSU on our home field two years later up against not rated and 2 star players. And our fanbase that thought he was a good hire has never been to PA and heard the jokes made about Moorhead and how much he underachieved there I heard it all the time and knew it would be a disaster

We're still going to be bad in football. Make money this Fall on us. We still lack talent
The SEC is not going to kick us out. They arent going to kick Kentucky or Candy out either
I'm ready for basketball season.
Then baseball season starts and we get to watch one of the SEC's best pitching rotations
