A lot. Most of the national guys seem to think if he doesn't commit to A&M on his visit he'll sign with us. It would be a MASSIVE pickup for Lebby and Co. He's a day 1 starter. Think Caleb Downs.

You don?t have to chase every 4 star and overpay like our fans seem to think you think. But he was one that if we didn?t get, our fans would be livid.

Not to sacrifice the overall good of team. With what we are paying Stonka, we could have brought in another difference maker at DE alongside Will.

You could make that statement for any player getting paid that's not a starter.

Eh. He's young though. I think he is a starter for us at least and we get at least two years of solid production out of him. Maybe three if they change the eligibility rules. Plus he is learning a new position.

National ranking has dropped to #49. Good news is that we got visits from a couple of big names this past Saturday. Mixed news is that they see we need help and can provide immediate playing time as our team didn't show up in so many ways against Georgia.
We made three critical mistakes that allowed the game to get out of hand:
Shapen fumble
Going for it on fourth and not converting when Fluff dropped the pass. That was a huge momentum killer.
Jumping offsides when Georgia was subbing in and out punting.
If we clean that up that game is a lot closer and we have a chance to win.

I've noticed we have offered a lot of JUCO kids this week.
I asked a guy that should know why and apparently, our coaches thought that they were going to pass the 5 to play 5 rule this offseason, and they won't be so we will have more open spots than originally thought.
Anyone hearing anything different? My twitter timeline is just filled with juco kids claiming they got offered this week.

Does juco even count against eligibility anymore? If it doesn't it's a great move to get these kids. It's similar to prep schools that Auburn and Georgia were notorious for signing players with 4 years still remaining.

Really dumb on our coaches to assume something would happen before it actually happens.

Update: We now have a 4 star committed as Zayion Cotton, WR, is now rated a .89 on 24/7 with a 24/7 Composite of .9060. Class ranking nationally moves back up to #48. I don't see many hoped for flips of players from MS or anywhere else if we have a Croom like 45-0, "I didn't see that one coming" Egg Bowl. Maybe the Kiffin drama will continue through kickoff.

Leon Noil, IOL from Edna Karr and a Nebraska decommit, has committed to us. Big pickup for Lebby and Loadholt. He will RS next year to get some weight on him but he could be a guy that can play multiple positions on the OL for us.

Good get and moves us "up" to #45 nationally. Man, we need to upset OM, go to a bowl and get the positive, upward trending attention to get some quality flips to join this class. Hail State!

Bralan Womack hasn't committed to A&M, as everyone thought he would do after the visit. If we can get him back to campus next Friday, I think we get him. He'd be a MASSIVE get. He's a Day 1 starter.

My preference is that we spend very big on the DL I think we can find athletes for the secondary.

Latest Commit: DL (Edge), from TX JC, 6'4", 280. Ranked #1 in State, #7 at his position and #32 Nationally, but yet a .86 although an impressive offer list including UGA. Ranking of JC players is very odd. By the way, this class is still ranked #45 nationally and this continues to be very concerning as 15 of the 24 commits are ranked .86 or .85. If we don't get some flips or process some of these perhaps "diamonds in the rough", I think this will be the worse ranked class in my lifetime. And yes, I think it still matters as you need a balance between HS/JC recruiting and the Portal. Right now, 44 teams from various conferences seem to think it is still important and are ahead of us. I agree somewhat because I think the ratings are far from accurate of the potential of some of these players. This is especially true with JC players...... just my opinion

Potentially. Let?s just say there is a reason Womack is at Hartfield. And we had a former player and now multi millionaire also have a kid there, additionally had us set up with two DL (one at AL and one at Ark) and David Turner dropped the ball on both.
I also know of a couple of other boosters in construction that have recently sold for some
Nice paydays they are really helping out Lebby with NIL.
People for years kept saying we should be ?moneyball? approach but don?t remember how bad the A?s were most years.
Let me just say this-we have a lot more money than people give us credit for. And for years we have believed the ?we are poor school?. We aren?t poor-our boosters just don?t flaunt it like others. We have been recommitted to NIL funds for next year particularly on the OL and DL and hopefully not listening to a certain old guard on who our DL coach should be.

We lost a juco DE because of money. Proven transfer players will have us at about #6 on their list at best. LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, and possibly Ole Miss have to make splashes in the portal. It's a shitty situation for us. Even more than normal this time.

24/7 still shows this player committed to us, so what's up?
Also took a commitment Kison Shepard, a former OL who had committed to us out of HS but had to go the JC route. 6'7", 325 lbs, rated .84, 85 nationally, 15 at position and 29th in state JC.
Class is now ranked 44th nationally including the DL that you are reporting as flipping from us to SMU.
We need to beat OM in the worse way for so many reasons including getting quality flips for thsi class. How many Scout team types and developmental "diamonds inthe rough" players do we need to rebuild our roster? I thought that was last year's class. Do we need this type signings two years in a row? Color me concerned.

Well, you guys were right, the JC DE from Texas has been removed from our list of commits, and the class drops to #46 nationally. Except for a couple of receivers, I see no one in this class that can help us next year except maybe on the scout team. Unless we are saving most of our money for the portal this may well be the worst ranked MSU HS/JC class in my long history of following MSU recruiting. We need some quality flips and I don't see that happening if we go 5-7 and get croomed in the Egg Bowl to boot. JMO.

If I have to pay you for multiple years and hope you’ll contribute later, it’s not worth it. We are not a program with the time or money to do that. We will live or die by the portal.I don’t know what we are paying Stonka, but he has had no production for two years and he was a big recruit. Prime example of why HS recruiting only matters for immediate impact.

If we get a couple of guys we can finish strong and get a couple of good players that can help us. JJ Hill is very underrated and should be a 4 star guy. Cotton will be a good TE and he is a four star guy. I really like Jayden Cration from Canton too and I think we have some solid OL prospects. Jaiden Taylor will be a very good player for us too.
I think right now in the present the most important thing MSU can do as far as recruiting is focus on the portal with all of the turmoil out there. There are some players that we should have gotten that we can get back. We have Kamario as a QB that we can build around and can use to attract talent. Not that we should neglect high school recruiting totally because if you get a guy like Bralan Womack he is a guy that is a day one starter for us potentially.

You're not pulling any players off their roster in all likelihood. A lot of those kids are LA kids. Their dream is play at LSU.
Here's an interesting note: LSU has NOT LOST ONE COMMIT in state since Brian Kelly was fired. Those kids don't care who the coach is. They just want to play at LSU

I can't even begin to describe how much I respect a kid that truly commits to the school they grew up wanting to play for. Especially in todays world. That's one reason why I want KT to be so successful. Hopefully no matter what.. he sticks with his dream of playing for the Maroon and White!

Kamario likes being a DAWG, don't get me wrong. But if someone offered him a bunch more than what we're paying, he'd take it. Zavion Thomas took a 6 figure pay cut to transfer from State to LSU. The Weeks brothers turned down a combined, for all 3, 7 figure NIL deal to transfer. Nussmeier turned down a higher offer. The list goes on and on. It's different down there. I wish kids in this state felt the way about State, and hell even OM, the way that LA kids feel about LSU. Hell the Weeks brothers are from GA and they love LSU and LA more than our in state kids love MS State or OM.
That is why LSU is a top 3 job. Because they get EVERY KID in that state that they want. Hell, and if they don't want them out of HS they can get them in the portal.

I wish kids felt the same way too. But being honest with myself.. you really can't blame kids for wanting to go to a place like LSU. The history of success, Saturday nights in Death Valley, the after party... the list can go on. 18-22 year old kids are looking for a good time. Not saying Starkville can't provide that. But kids at that age want more than what Mississippi usually has to offer. And I hate it! Hard to fault them tho. Throw in the money now and you have a tough situation

It's easy when there is no other real rival in state. Tulane is the only team that would have a prayer of competing against LSU in football and they might beat LSU once in 20 years if they played every year and even then that is probably being optimistic.
Florida has to compete in state with Florida State and Miami. Georgia has to compete with Georgia Tech. Even Alabama has to deal with Auburn.
LSU's biggest competition probably is Alabama and that's just for maybe a handful of players.
Louisiana doesn't have as many JUCO's either so the ULL's, ULM's, Southeast Louisiana, etc. are really almost like their community college system in that if you want to go to college close to home you go there. But their favorite team is LSU.

You're right. I don't know if he would leave. But I know if he was a LA kid on LSU's roster there is ZERO chance he would leave. He was entertaining other offers last year right before signing day. That is not an opinion, it's a fact. LA kids shut their recruitment down once they get that LSU offer. It's over. And once they get it, they're signing there IF IT'S A COMMITTABLE OFFER. Go back to 2021, we had Malik Nabers locked down. Until LSU came with a committable offer to let him play WR.
That's the difference. I wasn't trying to turn it into a Kamario debate. I was just pointing out that the LA kids are just different when it comes to LSU. MS kids aren't like that for either State or OM.

Just to be honest, I've heard stories of players families being threatened with losing their job if their kid didn't pick LSU. There is a ton of local pressure. That's maybe good for their team but that's not the way it should be. And they can get away with it because there are no immediate rivals to keep them in check.
And I heard that pre-NIL but at the same time, no one wants to spend their NIL money on their parents because they picked a school that wasn't LSU and their parents got fired over it.

Bralan Womack is trending our way. No clue if we close on him, but we've made up about as much ground as you possibly could to even be in the game. It reminds me a little bit of the Daniel Hill recruitment. I think this one ends up differently. I know A&M is not confident at all and most see that it's an us or Auburn deal.

Just saw Wiltfong mention that. That's interesting with all the banter about staff changes on defense. You have to wonder what they are saying to these players.

Lots of $$$ or a really great hire lined up. Could be both.

We're overpaying a bit on Womack, but he would be a massive perception win for us and he if he what everyone projects him to be, it'll be a discount in 2 years.

Money was never an issue with him.
He was told he would be taken care of. You can probably connect the dots if you know his history.
Any word on where we stand with Tico Crittendon? He's just a three star, but he's one of those Gwinnett County prospects and was a FSU commitment.

Yep and there was a promise of a truck that never came into fruition for him with Auburn.

Huge pickup for Lebby and co. Probably the biggest defensive recruit since Simmons that I can remember.
Imo if they overpaid, that's fine. We needed the perception win as you stated! Now hopefully we keep this momentum going! Thank you boosters!

As most everyone knows, we have moved up to #30 because of the flip of five-star safety Bralan Womack (ranked a four-star 97 on 247, I don't understand this, but a .9876 five-star on the 247 composite). I hope he signs on December 3rd. We are also trying to flip Micah Nickerson, a .89 three-star DE, a .9086 four-star composite back from Missouri. Hail State! Finish strong and make it happen!
There might be a chance on a couple of other recruits as well.

Any chance we flip Tristian Keys and/or Jase Matthews??

No. The Keys ship sailed long ago and Matthews would be more likely to end up at OM than here. I think he sticks with Auburn.

Doubtful. Nickerson and White are possibilities.

My guess is that it is Cooley and there is an outside shot it is TJ White, the LB from JA

Just got some pretty good info on White. It's not a done deal or anything, but we are in it. Lebby and Co believe they can get that one across the finish line.
Womack and White would be a hell of a finish to this class.

White is as good as anybody in the state. High 4 star. Instant impact like Lockhart was this year.

White is the one I've wanted the entire time. Even over Womack. He and Lockhart would be a damn good LB duo for 27 and beyond.
I think we end up with Nickerson. I am not ready to say he's 100% ours, because Mizzou has been known to pull some last minute crap, but I wouldn't trade spots with anyone right now.
Robertson has also said that things are trending maroon for Cooley now as well.

Yes, 100%. What a concept that we, too, need top-rated HS players with offer sheets comparable to our SEC brethren that are capable of making a quick impact in this get it done now college football world. We didn't need another class of mostly roster filling Scout Team, practice type players with no SEC offers except us. Get it done! Keep flipping! Hail State with some Hope and Success (Winning many more games, not close "competitive" losses) in 2026!

No. Not in this league. Not even for us.

Don't feel as good about White.
We will see on Matthews.
Not ruling out Cooley
Might be in a good spot for WR Keymian Henderson out of Texas.

Update: Finishing higher than I ever thought possible. Class is now ranked 26th nationally with 1 Five star, 2 Four stars and 26 three stars, some high threes with good offer sheets. Average player rating is now .8714. Great flips today and a couple of more may be on the way. See the committment thread here or free info on genespage, MS State, 24/7, recruiting for the complete list. Merry Flipmas and keep them coming! Hail State!

If you told me yesterday we would end up with a Top 25 class, I would have bought some ocean front property in Arizona.
Call me impressed! Now to getting my hopes up to probably have them crushed again! Lol. Great job to the staff and the money men. Let's Hail keep this ball rolling and keep supporting. Hail State!
Looking ahead, the 2027 class might be the one that we really need to make major waves in. There are a couple of IDL prospects and an edge prospect at the top of that class in Sam LeJune, Ben'Jarvus Shumaker, and Fields from Brookhaven. Along with Keys, the RB from Poplarville.

I agree 100%. If we can dominate the state next year I could potentially see us having a top 20 class. I am pretty wooly right now though.
Keys is the running back we need IMO. Dude is an absolute beast.

Some good backs for 27:
Keys from Poplarville
Bobo from Tupelo
Robinson from Brandon
Stephens from Madison Central
Oh, and we have another Morgan at Warren Central. If he's good enough, he's a guaranteed Bulldog. I think he's Josh's son.
