As a lot of you know, I am the resident crazy storm chaser of the page. A lot of you also know our team started a camera network to help monitor for severe weather. When severe weather is in the area, our cameras are monitored by the NWS, EMA, and local media to see if a storm has produced a tornado so that warnings can be issued or upgraded. The goal is to detect tornadoes as soon as they are formed. This past March our cameras in Amory and Rolling Fork (image below) did just that and were the reason the storms received tornado warnings which gave people extra time to take shelter. The NWS was watching those camera feeds live and saw the tornadoes developing in real time and didn't have to wait for the radar to update and hope it showed the debris signature.

We currently have 20 cameras in 18 locations with more scheduled to come online over the next few weeks. To buy the equipment and install one camera costs between $1,500-$2,000 plus another $600 a year to operate. We're currently trying to raise money to expand this network to more areas of the state as the goal is to have this network state wide. Feedback so far from the NWS, EMA, local media, and the residents of cities where we have placed these has been overwhelmingly positive. If you would like to help us expand our network you can go to https://givebutter.com/Y3o6N9 and make a one time or recurring donation. If you are a business owner, and would like to sponsor one or more cameras, shoot us an email at info@nmscas.org and we can give you the details of our sponsorship opportunities. The link to all of our active cameras is below so you can see where we are currently. Anything and everything helps. 100% of all donations and sponsorships goes back into this network. We are also a 501(c)3 non-profit so all donations are tax deductible.
