Thats great but I would rather have a bunch of 275 hitters who know how to hit when there is a man on 2nd and 3rd with no outs than a hitter who hits a single HR once in awhile. Face it we sucked with men in scoring positions/

If we were down by 7 runs and it was late innings, and we had stranded 27 runners throughout the game, you could count on Hines to hit a solo shot with 2 outs.

yes, but I will take a lineup batting north of 0.300
Pressure on pitchers, opposing coach has to consider, more threats. They cannot pitch around hitters for the next guy.
This lineup will be a gauntlet.
edit: some 2 out hitting is just luck of the ball having eyes. But I agree, we need contact hitters with runners in scoring position.

Loved chance’s low k rate. He gets his money out of every at bat. True dawg. I think it would hurt him to transfer because he loves the maroon and white that much. And he held down center field. If he leaves cause he doesn’t have a spot, I will be following him very closely and cheering him on. I got a feeling in my gut he will be back and hold down a corner outfield spot.

Beans coming back depends on the draft. Nobody is drafting him with that terrible arm. Frei is going to be the one to watch. We soooooo want him to return. If he does- he will start. We will also add quality OF'ers that are really OF'ers to our team.

Which you can adequately do in Starkville. More than adequately actually.
Literally the last athlete I saw out anywhere was Ross Mitchell at a Wendy's in 2013 after we won the regional.
I get that these guys need to relax every now and then and whatnot. I've also heard of stories of MSU athletes being basically mobbed by fans when they're going out and I can imagine a lot of athletes not being real wild about that.
I'm sure that dealing with every Maroon Mary wanting a picture with you at the grocery store gets old pretty quickly. There's a reason why the players basically have their own area to hang out and relax at Dudy Noble Field so that they can get away from everything else. There are times that players are sleeping in there.

That's definitely a concern and once I voiced before we even hired O'Connor that his portal record wasn't great. He has a much better NIL situation now and so there's no excuse why we shouldn't be in on some of the top portal names.
UVA's portal work has been from the Mid-Majors in their region. You see VCU, Georgetown, Penn, and Seton Hall guys. They are not snagging Clemson, Georgia Tech, and UNC talent. They don't have JC guys.
But looking at their team, the High School recruiting has been very productive. All the dudes transferring to MSU and the others MSU would like to have in 2026, are UVA High School recruits. BOC has been going to Regionals and Omaha with his own players.
MSU had Highfill, Hines, and Chance as the only HS recruits playing everyday. With Powell taking the Catcher job, only two players. Next year, probably only Chance will be a High School recruit playing the field. MSU does not have SEC or ACC transfers (until now). The 2025 MSU portal kids were Mid-Majors - Campbell, Cincinnati, North Alabama, Houston, Citadel, Indiana State, and Carolina Upstate.

Lemon did well in the portal for the most part. Other coaches are remaining portal heavy as well. But doing that hurts if you aren’t signing some legit dudes out of HS to go with it

Very hopeful we get Becker- huge position of need for us.
But I do have to echo some concern that our only portal pulls so far are Va players following their coach.
Not worried a bit, better to have 3 or 4 players he coached coming with him rather than them not coming. Plus he knows their ability, BOC is a proven winner and I can’t see any concerns right now. I bet he will get some other player. Not only is it better getting his player it helps with team chemistry cause they all no each other.

Well what you are missing is that the staff surely had info on players around the country already before the season ended. Then they had the week off while we were playing in a Regional to spend time doing evals because they didn’t make one. And then now this week so far to work the portal as well. Other schools are pulling in portals right and left. Auburn has 5 and just stopped playing Sunday.

Big difference when u change schools. It takes more than two weeks ata new school 34. I’m sure moving forward things will get better.
You already questioning BOC, amazing.
BOC also had to re recruit the returning player, I bet most would have left. And he probably has to reassure of the recruits we signed. I’m not sure many don’t understand transitions going on.

I don?t know how long Oak and MSU have known that he would be the coach, but figuring out who we needed to keep, thus, who and what we need to find is a process that Auburn, Tenn, etc. have surely been working on for awhile because they have known their needs for awhile. I?m guessing several of the players they have picked up at this point ?knew? where they were going before the portal opened and they entered it. I hope this is the case and we finish strong.

We've already gotten 2 of the top 5 of ON3's portal rankings, with a good shot at 2 more. I think we'll be doing fine.

This is a very big point some people are missing. There is a tremendous amount of work to do just with the present roster and new signees before you can even concentrate on the portal but it all has to be done almost simultaneously which is not possible.

Well I would feel better if Becker committed. At least that would leave us with just one glaring hole which is catcher. We also need more pitching depth but SS and C are the 2 positions right now that are barren and we need a couple of studs to fill in those holes.

I doubt we land Becker. Look for him to end up at Texas or return to Virginia. We need to go after Plan B at SS.

No way we're putting Frei at SS next year. It will almost 100% be someone from the portal. If we completely crap out which we won't- I bet we would go with Chone James there.
I feel OK about Becker still. If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

Buyer beware- the Maryland dudes including Hollis Porter were playing in a park with 385 foot to Center Field fence. The maryland stats are fugazi. Notice that UVA is dominating the portal. So it's a good thing to have cavaliers like it was a good thing to load-up Ole Miss Rebels last year before Mangrum fixed the pitching.

Duke is regular size (325, 370,400, 370,325) talking Maryland. Their PC wants 10 to 15 more feet. They are pushing a 7 ERA these days.

I'm not going to say we will get all of them, but we are in on Henry Ford, Eric Becker, Davion Hickson, Carson Tinney, Ethan McElvain, and Bryce Calloway. Tinney was thought to be a FSU vs Florida deal, but according to Steve Robertson yesterday, Alabama and Mississippi State have entered the picture with him.

I feel confident we still get Becker. I am not confident on Ford, but I don't think he makes it to campus anyways.
As for the others, Hickson is ours if we want him. Tinney would be a great get but not expecting him. McElvain I'm not expecting and Calloway I'm not expecting.
I think our catcher out of the portal will be Kevin Milewski from Seton Hall.

Weak schedule and lost some games to bad teams early, and they weren't able to do enough to make up for it.

Their athletic department screwed them on the non conference scheduling, giving them an RPI in the high 50s. They also had a full series at Florida State canceled, which would have improved their RPI by 10 spots if they'd just won one of those games.
The committee honestly just screwed up. They should have taken them despite the weak RPI. 16-11 in the 2nd best conference, and 3 teams who finished below them in the ACC standings won their Regionals.
Note that I'm not complaining. There's a good chance they'd still be playing had the committee let them in, and who knows if we hire O'Connor in those circumstances. We are the beneficiaries of Virginia's screwjob.

Quite a drop from a SEC program. Kind of like the landing spots of the majority of our FB players that hit the portal the last few years if they landed anywhere at all. Our recruiting by now former HC's in both FB and baseball has been seriously over rated.

And their series with FSU was cancelled due to a school shooting. This is all their RPI needed. I was shocked they got left out.
