Don't give UVA a chance to entice him back. Don't give Texas A&M a chance to swipe him away from him. Lock him down, and make it official!

One of these days you people are going to figure out that the fan base of msu baseball is a double edged sword. It is one of the factors that makes this job a monster and not for just any coach out there. At least the guys running this search know that. As for that Selmon is going to hire who is told to on this one. At least he is smart enough to know that others can make the right choice for the program, much different than the last one. Could happen in ten days time or a little longer.

I think it's pretty unlikely that O'Connor, Bakich, and Wasikowski all tell us no, and even if they do, I'm not sure that Thompson is #4 on the list or that he would have any reason to come here anyway. Those other 3 would be leaving conferences that aren't committed to baseball to come to the SEC. That's not a concern for Thompson.
The key factor here is that O'Connor can openly negotiate for the job as of today, while the others have to wait at least a week, probably longer, and focus on their own current jobs.

Rule 1
Never trust authority. Typically they screw up.
That is Selman in this case.
It?s up to us to hold them accountable via public pressure and damn sure don?t trust them.
Plus if we can?t talk about this stuff what are we gonna talk about on a sports message board?

Hope you're right, but we heard that in football back in December 2023 and then we hired Selmon's grossly unqualified personal friend, a guy who our fanbase disliked from his time at Ole Miss, as well as having some ... personal baggage ... from before then.

So if we make a great baseball hire, folks on this board can't tell us what a great job Selmon is doing?
I was warming up to him when he fired Lemonis because I thought he had a plan for sure. Now some of y'all are telling us that he really plays no part in this. Interesting

It's very booster driven. Not Madison booster driven. Selmon is along for the ride unless he goes AWOL like Stricklin when he hired Rick Ray.
If it's Reggie Willits then Selmon went AWOL.

It?s not no part, but he knows that others are better suited to help make the baseball hire. At least he is bright enough to know that it?s not his strongest area and to seek the assistance of those who are better suited for this role.

Lebby is not, for the last time, a personal friend. That narrative is so far from false it?s not even funny. Had he wanted to hire a friend, it would?ve been Shane Beamer.
And this post above is the core reason we never win. ?Personal baggage? get out of here. Saban had baggage, Ed O had baggage, Meyer had baggage, Kiffin had baggage. And you know what? They win..

I'm not sure if the best response is to point out that none of those 4 have anywhere near the "personal baggage" that Lebby has, or if it's better to point out that Lebby hasn't won a damn thing or given us any reason to think he ever will here.
I'm the reason we don't win because I think our 2-10 football coach probably sucks? And when I'm one of the few posters here who doesn't think we're unworthy of Brian O'Connor's attention? That's just not true on either count.
If Lebby starts winning, I'll keep forgetting about the icky situation at Baylor (I will give him some grace and say that these situations are complicated and he just can't condemn his father-in-law without tearing his family apart), but if we are looking for a new coach in 6 months, I'm sure going to unforget it, and I think the rest of our fans will too.

Last thing I?ll say so I don?t hijack a thread?33 players transferred out, only 3 remained in the SEC. Two of the 30 (both defensive starters and captains) who didn?t remain in SEC wound up transferring to UNLV and Tulane-both got cut this spring. Draw from it what you think.

Have you ever considered that you may have been wrong from day one? That the guy has never been a candidate for the job and we are talking to other people. And you and others have pushed a narrative to fit facts rather than facts to fit a narrative. Y'all have fallen for every line of bullshit that has been thrown out there by by the college baseball media types. Isnt the whole “this is being run the right way” the same story we hear every time? It’s the same people making the same choices for the same reasons. It will be the same results. Also why I dont spend a lot of time or money on MSU sports anymore

Yep. This 100%.
Yep, we don't know if Selmon is presently negotiating how to pay Skip Johnson's buyout and will reveal this garbage after OU is quickly eliminated. Or even the K State duffer, Pete Hughes.
We are thinking Studs like Bakcik or Waz but our leaders might be signing Ming. This might be why Kentucky suddenly sucks.
If I hear that Selmon consulted John Cohen before hiring someone, I might just quit MSU sports.
There wasn?t anything wrong with the process of how they hired a football coach, and this idea that Selmon just hired his buddy is one of the laziest thought processes ever. Jeff Lebby was at worst a top 3 offensive coordinator in college football when he was hired.
Some of you need to realize that the only established head coaches we can hire in football are either at the end of their careers or have so much baggage that no one else will hire them.
Hiring a Willie Fritz wouldn?t have changed the results of the 2024 season. Jamey Chadwell wouldn?t even entertain the thought of taking the job. Lance Liepold wasn?t interested in our job.
