Happy Maroon Friday!
It is a great day to be a Mississippi State Bulldog!
I love this time of year. Seeing our graduates and their families buzzing around campus capturing photos in The Junction, on the Drill Field, and outside the Chapel of Memories ? all showcasing the beauty of our campus. Within Mississippi State Athletics, we have 62 student-athletes graduating this semester with 51 of those earning their undergraduate degrees and 11 student-athletes earning their graduate degrees. We are so proud of our Bulldogs who have achieved these degrees through hard work and discipline, and we are grateful for the professors, faculty and staff who helped each achieve their goals. Be on the lookout on social media for pictures and content celebrating our graduates within Mississippi State Athletics!
On a personal note, my oldest daughter, Shayne, wrapped up her last day of 8th grade yesterday. It doesn?t seem like long ago we were filling our summers with trips to Disney World for her to meet princesses, but now she is filling her summer with volleyball and basketball workouts, summer reading projects for school and hanging out with her friends. Where did the time go?! My youngest daughter, Meatball, and her softball team finished their regular season play last night at the Cornerstone Sports Complex here in Starkville. This was her first year playing softball, but after watching Sierra Sacco on our MSU softball team ? she was inspired to try it out! She has had a blast. I am thankful that our girls have such amazing student-athletes to look up to and a community in which they can thrive!
In addition to the excitement here on campus with graduation, we have a lot happening in competition and within our department. See below for some highlights:
? Our Diamond Dawgs had a record-setting night as they set the single-game school record by slugging eight home runs in a 25-7 victory over the Missouri Tigers at Taylor Stadium. Meanwhile, Hunter Hines hit two home runs last night to bring his career total to 67, which is tied for the most career home runs in MSU history. Our Dawgs continue the series tonight at 6 p.m. CT and Saturday at 2 p.m CT with both games streamed on SEC Network+.
? Our women's golf squad is set to begin the 2025 NCAA Championship today at 3:40 p.m. CT. State will be making its fourth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, which is the longest streak in program history. Live scoring for the NCAA Championship will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com or you can follow our social media channels.
? Our men?s tennis team is set to play Stanford in Waco, Texas, at 1 p.m. CT in the NCAA Quarterfinals. You can click below to learn more on how you can follow today?s match: MSU vs Stanford
? Our No. 18 Mississippi State softball team will open the NCAA Tournament today at the Lubbock Regional, facing Washington at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
? Our men?s track and field program has some exciting news with Peyton Bair being named SEC Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Remi Rougetet striking gold in the javelin in the SEC Outdoor Championships by throwing a massive personal best of 80.49m to take home first. Rougetet?s new mark also puts him on the MSU all-time list, with the third-farthest throw in program history.
? On the fundraising front, we have had two exciting announcements in the last 10 days. Howard Industries and the Howard Family have contributed the lead gift for a new football indoor practice facility. We are so grateful to the Howard Family for their thoughtful decision to invest in the development of elite talent. You can read more about the gift by clicking here . Continuing the momentum, a family from Jackson, Miss., contributed $1 million this week toward the Billy W. Howard Sr. Indoor Practice Facility.
? These two gifts mark the sixth and seventh seven-figure gifts that State has received in the last nine months. This is a record for MSU Athletics, as the previous high for seven-figure gifts in a fiscal year was four. As we wrap up the fiscal year in June, we will plan on sharing more on this historic year in fundraising. We know we could not achieve this success without the passion and thoughtful investment from Bulldogs everywhere ? so thank you!
As I said at the start, it is a great day to be a Mississippi State Bulldog! We are grateful for your passion, your positivity and your support! Have a great Friday?and don?t forget to wear your maroon!
