I was curious to see how other programs stacked up to State's baseball support staff. This is beyond the 3 paid assistants. I just went by what was posted on the websites, but didn't include the "trainer" positions.

STATE
Coordinator of baseball player development
Director of baseball operations
Coordinator of baseball operations

UM
Coordinator of baseball operations
Director of analytics
Director of player development
Student assistant coach
Head baseball strength and conditioning coach

TENN
Director of baseball sports performance
Director of recruiting operations
Director of player development
Director of Baseball operations and pitching performance
Director of analytics
Student assistant coach
Assistant director of baseball operations

UGA
Director of player development.
Director of athletic performance for baseball
Director of baseball operations.

TEX
Student Assistant
Director of baseball operations
Director of program development
Director of player development
Associate head athletic performance coach, baseball

TAM
Graduate assistant
Director of baseball operations
Director of player development and analytics
Director of program and pitching development
Head S&C coach

What can we learn from this? I'm sure all teams have student assistant/grad aissistants and S&C coaches. So you can probably throw those out, too. That still leaves TENN with quite a serious support staff.

I wonder if we aren't listing someone because I know Bobby Austin does analytics but not sure what his job title is. Also know that Johnny Long is still around as a student assistant.

That said I do think we should increase our support staff. The NCAA only gives you room to have a pitching coach, a hitting coach, and then then third one is kind of miscellaneous. Most teams use it on someone that is a catching guy. I have seen baserunning guys like Mingione and there may be coaches that specialize on defense. I think we should have at least one analyst at the very least that focuses on those areas as well as a someone that is a pitching analyst as well.

It seems like we need to increase our hitting technology to catch up to our pitching tech.

This is what alot of us are talking about when we say "money" and it is also why some people wont take our job unless they get promises to grow staff.

When people throw out Vitello's name or other name coaches and say "make them turn us down" its a waste of time because they will immediately because we dont have the resources other programs have now in baseball. It's a helluva lot more than just having a nice stadium with fans. We have been passed by in baseball because other programs have more money than us. It's not going to get any better either

Bobby Austin, who coached 1B last night, is our Coordinator of Player Development. He and Jonathan French split the Analytics stuff up. Michael Mydlo handles S&C for baseball.

It has nothing to do with money or our willingness to pay for that. It has everything to do with the previous coach not believing he needed all the ancillary support staff.

Take Brian O'Connor at UVA. He has:

Associate AD of Baseball
Director of Player Development and Scouting
Director of Baseball Sports Performance
Operations and Recruiting Assistant
Director of Baseball Operations
Pitching Coordinator
Mindset and Performance Consultant

This is why you see me say that this staff has not maximized the technology we have available to us with the pitching lab, trackman...etc. A lot of it is because we simply don't have the staff.

It would be very unusual for a coach to not want more staff. When I finally meet one I'll post about. That sounds like it was dictated from above

Austin is listed as the coodinator for player development, but French isn't listed.

How much does it realistically cost to employ an analyst or two?

Unless these other schools still have staff not listed, we don't seem to be glaringly lagging behind. It's hard to believe we are missing out on top baseball coaches because we refuse to hire a couple more guys who would probably make less than $75k each.

We don't need all that stuff! We need a head coach who teaches and coaches. We don't need a CEO HC. We need a hands on HC. The guy that tells a hitter " by gosh, you WILL learn to hit to beat the shift or you WILL watch from the dugout. " 😂😂😂

French is listed as a fellow or something but that is what he does.

I am just assuming you are probably just using the athletics website and if you are you have to go to staff directory for the entire athletic dept to see some of the staff.

Everyone isn't listed. They place guys under those titles and don't list them.

Now this is interesting. How many times have we seen the "A" on Alabama's jersey beat us on the football field before the game even begins? Or the Kentucky game in basketball where we let the Kentucky jersey beat us before the game begins b/c that's what we always do?

An athletic department psychologist position for MSU that could attack the "mental midget" mindset that seems to happen to us in big games could prove huge.

I wish I could like this post 1,000 times.
