We're all miserable and just waiting for this nightmare to end so thought I'd lighten the mood. What were your favorite bars and restaurants in Starkville when you were in school and what are they now?
In College: Bar-Klaasroom/Restaurant(s)-Old Two Brothers, Bulldog Deli (RIP), Casa Bravo

There were no bars that I remember.
Very few restaurants.
Maybe... Burger Chef "Can I have a Big Chef a large order of fries and a medium coke to go please" every day on my way to work in Columbus.

The best one now is The Landing. The cotton district needed that type of bar desperately.

Shoney's - all you could eat shrimp - they kicked us out as we ate too much - go figure?
Starkville Cafe - good grilled cheese
Arbys - roast beef sandwich with bird shot in it, oh those were the days!
Thompson Steak House on 82 east - when I could afford it!

When I was in School we had almost everyday covered:
Tuesday Veranda - $2 Bonsai (cheap Red Bull) & Vodka out of a Gatorade cooler
Wednesday Bistro/State Theater- $2 wells and $75 natty
Thursday Hunt Club - All you could drink for $5. Yes it was the Hunt Club but large enough groups were fun.
Deals wherever on the weekends but Mugshots and live music was not bad.

I will stand for no Hunt Club slander!! Thursday night was Greek night and I'm pretty sure it was $10 all you can drink by the time I was there. We definitely got 3x or 4x our money's worth every time

Tuesdays - Rick's $2 Tacos / $1 Margs
Thursdays - StaggerIn $10 all you can drink wells (including walk me downs)
Thursdays - Cowbells $5 entry for penny pitchers
Fridays - StaggerIn $2 Fireball shots and then roam the district like an asshat
Fridays - Dawghouse Nickel Night. $10 entry and nickel for every shot. (They went out of business obviously)
Sundays - Rick's Steak dinner for $12
Food wise Little Dooey (but I worked there) was my number #1. Then it just depended on what I was in the mood for. LaTa still the best mexican.
Covid really wrecked some of the best options. I think Starkville peaked with the scene in 2018-2019 and is almost close to recovering.

There were more than a couple nights I stumbled out of Stagger and there were people passed out in the bushes. Great place. Still think they were absolutely idiotic to give up that location. They had it made.

It was such a great location for getting quick drinks on Friday / Saturday. But I'm not sure that's a good thing for a business model lol. And I too stumbled out plenty.

Well now it's just not an easy place to get to. Hell, half the folks don't even know where it is. I just don't think they realized that the only reason most people went there was location. No one went there because the food was just incredible or they loved their feet sticking to the floor.

In the mid 70's, Coleman's BBQ had the best hamburgers in Starkville, bar none. Pretty good BBQ too. Little Dooees always had, and continues to have good food, even though I can't spell it. LOL

Pettys, The Grill, & Cheers & Rosie Baby's was better back then too
Give me The Guestroom for my bar now.
Give me Commodore Bobs Brunch, The Bins comfort food, Restaurant Tyler for my food
I do like BoardTown because beer selection is big and it's ice ass cold!
It's easier to name the bad places now because there's a lot of good stuff around Starkville.

Oh don't disagree. But Jason is (still) hoping that area will grow and explode into more than what it currently is. There's potential for more businesses there and making itself another social area. But lot of owners politicking against it.

Flos was by far my favorite. Bingo nights got wild. Never will forget a band playing eastbound and down and the whole bar dancing on the tables to it.
Real drinkers went to Ricks for penny pitcher night and gladly drank skunky natty light. Also had dollar you call it.
If you ate at the old Christy?s it was a race to get back to your apartment before an explosion.

Petty's was the best BBQ in Starkville and it wasn't even close. Blew Little Dooey out of the water.

Len Lews- Athletes, frats, and quite a few girls. Hamburger steak and fries was pretty decent after several beers, especially when you won the money shooting pool.
Triangle Club- Full of freaks, went with one of my roommates but looked like Moses. He loved playing the old pinball machines that had no flippers and you could beat them to death to earn points which could be turned in for cash.
The Woodpile- Six pack of Sterling BigMouth in bottles was only about $1.50. Favorite of my roommate freak.
Only ate at Burger Chef, Coleman's for a Sunday barbecue plate, and Sargent's for a midnight meal after being at Len Lews or the Triangle Club. I can still see big ole Sarge asleep on a barstool at the counter and his late night cook could serve up a tasty burger or hamburger steak and fries.
Columbus Night Spots: The Southern Air and the Welding Works. Several girls from my hometown went to the W.
I transferred from Northeast Mississippi Junior College in the spring of 1975 and graduated at State in 1977. I had many great times and even back then, didn't know there was nothing to do in Starkville.**** Rock bands that came through were big name acts and fantastic shows. That would be another good thread.

What, no love for the Plantation Bell dining room on 82? Favorite was Pizza King next to Farm House frat, killer sub samwich and pizza. Danvers and Western Sizzlin' were good. Capt D's chicken dinner ruled also. The place next to Danvers was great, can't remember the name but I think it was The Golden ---?. And if you liked salty tasting steaks the Bonaza Steakhouse was the place.

I would trade 4 Bulldog Burgers for one Bulldog Deli located on the University Drive location. Seriously. The sandwich they had with the kielbasa.... was awesome.

Bulldog Deli also had amazing chips and rotel dip. I am not sure their recipe for it, but it was always to perfection. City bagel was good for Sunday's after church. Mugshots is still the best burger. Also, the best pizza in Starkville was at the old restaurant Tyler (I am drawing a blank the name of it). Veranda of course had good steak but I couldn't afford that in college. The grill was a good spot as well. Not much of a bar person but I did go to see Eric Church at Rick's and had a good time and drink prices were great compared to Mugshots. I have not been to Starkville in 8 years (travel costs are too expensive living 1000 miles away) but hoping to get back next Fall.
