Gotta have 2 of 3 coming up. Felt like our pitching roles was a lot better this past wkend. There is a glimmer of hope. Very faint but there.

I think one win keeps us in the game at a minimum. Two would be huge.

We took care of business tonight. Probably our most dangerous OOC game with it being on the road.
We got some good innings from McPherson, Williams, and Dotson and didn't have to use Stone or Hungate.

RPI at 46 now. A big weekend could cause us to make a jump.

Solid win as road non-cons go. Not feeling great about the 12 K's against UAB mid-week pitching. Efficient scoring 8 runs on 7 hits and 3 HBP and 3 walks. All 8 runs were earned. Still holes in that batting order and inconsistency, but it is a win and wins are desperately needed for the psyche of this team!
Need 2 of 3 this weekend to improve positioning and show they can beat a good team on the road. Because if somehow this team gets to the tourney, one it will be a miracle, and two it will be on the road!

I think the key for us going forward is pitching staff management. We need to drill defense hard too. We can turn that around with hard work- see 2021. Starting Powell and Sanders at catcher and second base helps some with that.
To my original point, we can't have WTF pitching decisions. We know our rotation is Pico, Siary, and Ligon. We have to stop trying to steal innings by extending guys too much. Our bullpen is good enough that it's unnecessary and honestly we could get 4 innings out of our three starting pitchers and we have enough bullpen we could sweep someone. Also, we have to get guys out quickly if they don't have it. We can't let a guy meltdown like Hungate did against Texas or McPherson against LSU.
Now, Pico obviously we can get 6 innings out of him pretty consistently and that's great. He's facing the other teams ace so if we're behind use Ben Davis like we did Friday and if we're ahead use either Simmons or Hungate. If they get their pitch count up go to Dotson or Williams.
Saturday we have to understand that Siary is basically good for four innings. If he is in a groove like he was against LSU I'm fine letting him start the inning but we need to pull him once he allows a baserunner and then go to Hungate/Simmons/Davis/McPherson. Ligon pitched out of his mind and I'm not sold on him being sustainable. We need to get him out early if he doesn't have it. We also need to maybe working in Kevin Mannell some.

Ligon is our "is the light going to turn on" guy. Based on our history- he likely becomes our next MLB guy that didnt do alot in college. You can see the potential

Yes. Agree on all. Too many quality arms to let somebody implode. If we have a lead and walk 2 in a row like McPherson did vs LSU, don't wait.
Pico, Siary, Ligon
Stone
Hungate
Dotson
Williams
Davis
Possibly McPherson and Mannell
That'll play.

We need to move from making decisions based on how many innings someone has pitched towards making decisions based on how many times the line up has seen the pitcher. Most of these guys need to be taken out before they hit the third time through the order. When Siary got in trouble Saturday was when SC was going through the top of the order for the third time.

Agree. I also think need to look at how many pitches a pitcher has on the weekend not just can only pitch one time. There are several that could pitch an inning on Fri one on Sunday to get the W. We got the arms just not arranging things right.
