It's tough to watch but he is one of the best coaches in the nation. I hate we couldn't keep him but he loves Starkville. He literally cried at the press conference when they came to Starkville and still owns a farm there. He made Womens basketball relevant for us, we never cared about it before he took us to back to back National Championship games. Its hard to pull for Texas but I have alot of respect for him even though I hate he left us.

And best of all he praised the Lord first.

Cohen took so much from us.

No doubt. I think MSU and Starkville fit Vic well. I don't think he was looking to leave either but obviously something pushed him to the move. Wish him well. He was a class act. Praise the Lord and go Dawgs.

There was something that pushed him to leave. A message board is not the place where that needs to be talked about though.

Think he would coach the men?

Yada yada blah blah ....... he left. I was done with him when he made the CHOICE to leave. No matter though. South Carolina is going to send them back to Austin.

I completely get what you are saying, I normally feel that way about any coach or player that leaves but I have to give him the respect he earned, he took us to places none of our programs had seen at that time.

I think that game will be closer than you think. South Carolina isn't as strong as they typically are, they are still really good but I wouldn't count Texas out.

Dawn Staley will win that game by 14 pts. And it won't even be that close if you watch it.

In spite of Texas winning a close one in Austin, there was little doubt who would win the Final Four game. While I'll gnash my teeth and admit Vic is a good coach, Dawn will forever out recruit him. And I'm admitting that through clenched jaw because I'm not a Dawn Staley fan.

Yeah, I am with you on that. I can't really put my finger on it but I despise her.

Vic's team this year was a 2 horse show, the pt guard and booker. slow either of those and texas was mediocre. Vic knows that but can he recruit better? He will always field a top 10 team there.

Madison Booker from Ridgeland Mississippi left the state following Coach Schaefer and staff members who had been recruiting her to Mississippi State since early on.

We are seldom going to win a recruiting battle between Vic and Dawn. As in never.

This is true but Purcell is a pretty good recruiter himself. Right now we have the #13 Recruiting class in the Nation (high school) and he normally does pretty good in the portal also. We lost alot of players to the portal and graduation but it wouldn't surprise me to see Sam go get some talent out of the portal, he's done it every year.

What's your take on Purcell's ability to develop players, NC? Not that that's as important in this portal era.

To be honest, in my opinion that's the biggest question on him is player development. He can recruit, and he wins some too. Not to the level of Vic but Purcell gets us to the tournament, I think he relies on his Assistant Coaches for player development more than he does it himself. That being said Purcell is fairly young and is still learning himself, I get frustrated with him at times but I honestly feel he is the best coach for us right now.

I will say this,...Coach Schaefer and his staff could flat out develop players. They regularly brought in 3 star or lower (though some at times were rated 4 star or above) players at Miss. State, and had quite a few of them playing over their heads ratings wise. Also, they appeared to be very good at utilizing their players abilities on the court. The players were very tough, normally in very good physical condition, and could go hard on the court for long periods of time. Sometimes 5, 6, 7 man rotations going hard in ball pressure all 4 quarters. These folks weren't playing around.
