So some key things: He would owe Tennessee money if he left before June 30. If he did leave on his own he would owe them 4 million (which would be paid by his new employer I'm sure)
The buyout goes down significantly as time goes on.
So for 2026 it would be 3 million
2027 2 million
2028 800k
2029 400k
And you know where I am going with this.
So if we bought out Lemonis and fired everyone that would likely cost MSU about 3-4 million. That said I would be all for keeping Justin Parker. That would "save" some money there. Then to get Vitello we're going to have to pay the 4 million buyout plus probably at least 3.5-4 million for his new contract and I'd guess 1-2 million for staff.
So that would cost MSU roughly about 14 million to hire Vitello and probably more. It's expensive and unlikely but if I were MSU I would totally do it.

Who is claiming we could get Vitello? Why would he up and leave for anywhere with what he has at UT right now?

We would have a better chance of hiring Earl Weaver

we just need someone with an aggressive pulse in all areas of the baseball program. Heck, hire Oz from USM. He develops guys annually as one is expected.

Bert Stare has a better chance of being the next MSU baseball coach than Tony Vitello.
He's got it made. There's nothing we can offer him that Tennessee can't other than bigger crowds and a nicer stadium, which as we've seen with coaches and recruits, isn't as high on the priority list as we would like to believe.

don't care who it ends up being as long as he can assess and identify talent

And embrace the high expectations that come with the gig. That's one area where Lemon falls short. He gets too caught up in the outside noise and is too busy worried about what everyone is saying.

Hire USM’s manager for $750k per year with incentives.
I’d be stunned if he wouldn’t jump on that.
He’s a good manager.
And, try to keep Parker.

Our own fans gave Johnny Long crap last year, the only player to actually play with passion. Imagine how?d they act when Vitello?s culture took over.

We would be mad about the antics. There would threads about bat flipping and not enough local players. There would be threads about Vitello uniform selections. But happy with the Wins. If we were not masochists or wanted constant happiness we would not be MSU fans.

If we won, it would be very minimal.
Winning cures all.

LOL. I know Vitello isn't coming here. I just thought it was interesting to see how much it would cost. Honestly, it was less than I thought. His buyout isn't outrageous in a couple of years which I think is interesting.

The guy that "should" be our coach is the guy who just pushed Lemonis Crap back up his colon last weekend. And yes, he would have likely won a NC with the 2021 team as well but more than likely would have kept things rolling.
I knew when I saw Lemonis in Little Rock in a sports bar back in the late summer of 2022 and asked him if he was there recruiting and he said "Nope. Here for a Golf Tourney", his fire to keep it going was not where it needed to be. Of course, I'm sure he felt he had earned enough good will in 2021.

Once Everybody caught and many passed Vandy and State (and to some degree Ole Miss because they ain't spending football money on baseball) when NIL came along, things changed drastically in who could spend on the minor sports and who couldn't.

NIL changed it all. I'm glad we got our championship before it hit.
Now that guys are getting paid in baseball- they are staying closer to home at times as well as taking less to play at certain schools.

Better be careful there CaptainObvious. I was criticized on this very site for asking Lemonis at a home state basketball game if we were going to be better after the 2022 season disaster. I was told that he was too busy or important to be bothered by a peon fan like me who asked him such a question at a basketball game. By the way, his answer was "I hope so." Then we had the 2023 season. (BTW this was meant to be in reply to post #16 not #17.)

If we gave lemonis a buyout, that was not wise.
He was in year 3 of a 4 year deal last year.
This would be year 4.
If we renewed a buyout going into this year, that was dumb. Maybe we extended his contract, but surely we didn't extend a buyout.

i like your OP. It was worth seeing the financials of a top coach.
If we had a guy like that, with our teams beating up on others, with dominance, we would have to expand the condos, and park. People in MS care about baseball like it is our pro team.
There is a point where Vitello will want the crowds and attention IMO. That may be to Arkansas , but he will move from TN if they don't really embrace baseball like he experienced while at Arkansas.

Good points, Coaches that succeed rally the fans, we have a spilt fan base big time especially baseball. Pretty obvious Vitello is motivated and recruits his tail off.

I am with you here. I do understand Coach, and Vegas comments that we need all our donor money going toward money sports. But in MS, this is our pro sport and there are some alum that will only donate toward baseball if it meant having a good product on the field.

I want a Vitello type, but I'm not naive enough (and I know you aren't either) to think we could ever get Vitello himself. I'll just say that we need to decide real soon whether we want to be the elite program we think we are and compete for more titles, or if we're just okay with telling stories about 2021 for the next few generations. If it's the former, we need to nut up and put up the money. Otherwise, the Dude is Wrigley for the next hundred years.
