Didn't something similar happen to their qb that sat out after 3 or 4 games last yr?

Yeah. It was some issue with his NIL. I'm not sure of all the details though.

Maybe since he wouldn’t have to recruit just postal money to players......but just remember Polk debacle. Plus how he left that defense and Fitz, not arguing the Fitz ankle hits with the refs....some famous prophet once said you are never appreciated in your homeland. Why He left a “DOG” potentially top four team will always a question. I know he got paid more at Fla but the fame he could have gotten with winning BIG with that “DOG” team would have made him a legend.

If that's the case, we'll be so buried that it won't matter if Nick Saban 2007 took our job.

Here's the thing about Dan that most of our fans don't get. Probably true of a lot of coaches so this could be said about a lot of coaches.
MSU fans care more about MSU than Dan Mullen did. That's just reality. He didn't care about what our team would be in 2018. He already won here in 2010 and 2014. What would 2018 have done for him other than he gets to say he has more wins that Jackie Sherrill? He cared about himself and his career. Not saying that is wrong. You could say he probably didn't handle leaving MSU well and I think that is totally fair and true IMO. And honestly, the biggest reason I wanted Dan gone after 2015 and why I don't want him back is because he doesn't really want to be here.
But the bottom line is MSU fans like Dan Mullen more than Dan Mullen likes MSU. And because of that and the fact that Keenum is still our school president I would be very surprised if Dan Mullen coaches at MSU again. I don't think he wants to come back to MSU. I don't think we would pay him much more than UNLV is to be honest. If he did come back he is probably going to focused for two years and then move on to the next thing...putting us right back where we were again. And the reality is when he left both MSU and Florida there were culture issues on both teams that reared their ugly heads once he left. Not to mention part of the reason he is in Las Vegas is because of his son and him having the opportunity to play golf I think it is.
He also probably has a much easier path to the playoffs at UNLV. That's assuming he doesn't puss out against Boise State but that remains to be seen.

Call me crazy I would totally take Nick Saban in two years if he would take the job. He would get our program right if nothing else. And yeah I know he is ancient.

Only a fool would turn Saban down. Saban in a wheelchair would be the best we ever had

T0 quote coach Prime on his own draft day many years ago: "I was afraid I was going to have to ax for so much money, they were going to have to put me on layaway!!"

You're absolutely right about that.
Our fans need to stop hoping that Dan Mullen comes back.
What MSU really needs is for Joe Judge to take a job at UAB or somewhere like that and we need to see if he can coach and recruit in college and then pick him up- if he works out at UAB or wherever of course. If he doesn't work out there then no harm no foul for MSU.
That's the mistake we made with Felker IMO. We never saw him be a head coach somewhere that he could learn. So we hired him and we found out he couldn't coach. Same mistake with Arnett too. Except Arnett was worse than Felker.

I do think Felker was getting better, you could see the recruits that he left JWS, but him being 33 years old and no experience as HC was obvious his first three years. But that win in Knoxville over the Vols was about exciting as it gets. Don Smith was my favorite QB, I can only imagine how good he would have been with a better OL and receivers.

That's true. His last two years he went 5-6 which would likely be 6-6 seasons in today's game. Biggest issue he had is he couldn't beat Ole Miss.
And FWIW he went 1-10 in 1988 and then 5-6 in 1989. We can perform a similar turnaround this year under Lebby.

Another fun game a big upset was beating LSU with Orlando Lundy (Don Smith was out with broke collarbone). Orlando played a once in a lifetime game that evening. LSU fans were all over our campus that day, they went to the athletic dorm they went around throwing sugar packs celebrating the bowl game they played. We rode block their celebration that day.
