This from story on HailState heading into SECT. For those making fun of our OOC competition, kinda foolish when you look at the facts. We did OK. We simply went downhill as a team as the season progressed.

"The Maroon and White are one of seven SEC squads (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M) and are one of 25 teams nationally to produce at least 12 combined NCAA NET Quad 1 and 2 victories on the season.

State has posted an 19-5 mark versus teams outside the Associated Press Top 10. Overall, 14 of the 20 wins for the Bulldogs are against KenPom Top 100 teams fueled by six wins inside the top 50.

State is joined by Memphis and Tennessee as the only teams in the nation to collect at least a pair of true non-conference road wins over NCAA NET Quad 1 foes."

The Bulldogs are one of five programs (Alabama, Auburn, Memphis, Texas A&M) in the country to amass at least six non-conference victories. Only State and Auburn have amassed a 6-1 record or better against NCAA NET Quad 1 and Quad 2 non-conference opponents."

The good news - it is a new season and this team can flush the past month or so and get hot and make at least a sweet 16 run. Lets get it done. Hail State

While I know it's from HailState.com, that's good stuff, R2. I don't know how far we can go in the postseason, but if the team that punished Memphis and OM in Oxford shows up, we can definitely pee in somebody's cheerios. I wouldn't want to see us in the 1st round in the Field of 64 (or is it 68?).

Looking at preseason expectations and taking into account the Clary incident, they either met or exceeded expectations to some degree. There's no doubt they have flaws but some of those early season wins set some high expectations.

Yes, it is. The Sec has gotten so tough in every sport with competition top to bottom.

I really think the Clary "incident" cost us an SEC game or possibly two. We desperatly needed a true point guard and he would have filled that spot. Another SEC win or two changes how I feel about this team right now...

Yes, it is. The Sec has gotten so tough in every sport with competition top to bottom.

The SEC started caring about basketball and it got REAL real quick. Go back 13-15 years ago:

Bama-good 1 in every 3 years
Auburn-could not find their arena
Arkansas-toiling in mediocrity
LSU-good 1 in every 5 years
Ole Miss-impressively average
State-good 1 in every 3 years, but about to be bad for 6 years
A&M- good 1 in every 4 years
Florida-kind of cared and were pretty good in spurts
Kentucky-very good
Vandy-impressively average
UGA-could not find their arena
Mizzou-brought into the conference for basketball and were bad
Tennessee-still on the downturn from Bruce leaving and the Tindall fiasco
South Carolina-could not find the arena

Juxtapose that with today and EVERY team has made a massive investment in all aspects of the program and it has shown. The coaching in this league is light years ahead of where it was at that time.

If we have to use the SEC as our measuring stick, we will always be at the mediocre to average level! Ooo.....oooo.... WE DO and WE ARE! Accept our lot and your blood pressure will stay in the normal level. Expect more....like ME! And you will take 3 BP pills and a anxiety pill every day of your life!😳😳😳

There is no question that our fans and even the media over inflated our basketball team to begin the season. While we did have a strong non conference schedule, we did not beat any teams listed as a projected 5 seed or higher. Our best win was no doubt Memphis and I think the fact we played a perfect game and Memphis played bad, it gave people false hope. We ended up the 10 seed and we were projected to finish the conference as a 10 seed. I agree with others that having Clary would have probably helped us win the Texas, Ark and UK games. This would have put us the 5 seed in the tournament had that happened. We were predicted to be a bubble team and we exceeded that expectation. The season was definitely not as bad as some of our fans have made it out to be. Obviously, it will be disappointing if we do not win any games in the tournament, but that will be due to our lack of defending the 3 and making 3's.

I have been to nearly every home game. Lots of maroon colored glasses in this thread. Do you not realize we have lost 4 out of our last 5 games and we were favored against OK, TX(a home game), and AR and gave up more than 80 points in about every loss. This team has issues and Jans has been as stubborn as Croom in football as he won't change a defense that's about 315 out of 335 or so NCAA teams in trying to guard against three point shots.

And yet Jerry Palm at CBSsports still has us as a 6-seed (makes absolutely zero sense). Lunardi has us an 8-seed against Creighton (which I definitely hope that doesn't happen). The only thing I can think of is our 7 Quad 1 wins is top-10 in the country. Other than that, I have nothing to justify Palm's faith in us for a 6-seed.

We have faded down the stretch for sure but the OP was just facts about our Q1 and Q2 wins and many quality wins outside SEC even. No maroon colored glasses in the facts. Point was we probably had a better year than everyone felt like.
