Just read where Hugh Freeze was diagnosed with early stage Prostate Cancer. No matter what your feelings are for him dam glad he got diagnosed early and that he comes out of it ok. Plus as a reminder to all men get screened for it at least once a year cause once it goes to late stages you're screwed

I was at Stage 3 when they caught mine. Zero symptoms. Still doing bloodwork for MD Anderson every 6 months. April will be 6 years since my diagnosis.
Get screened!!!!! And make sure your doctor checks and discusses your PSA level. That's the only thing that triggered them to perform a biopsy on me.

There is zero clinical proof trt increases the chance of prostate cancer.

It doesn't. It "feeds" prostate cancer of the cancer is there. But it absolutely does not cause prostate cancer. In fact, I recently started injections per my Oncologist at MD Anderson. "Quality of life".
One of the primary treatments is hormone deprivation while administering radiation and/or chemotherapy. Starving the cancer cells of testosterone is very effective and makes them more susceptible to radiation. It's a bitch to go through though.

Is the screening a blood test, Down?

Blood test is the best. PSA is the specific test. Prostate Specific Antigen.
Unfortunately, the doctor will probably still insist on the good ol finger test, especially if it's a urologist. But that test didn't find anything on me. They said your prostate is fine. Then the PSA results came back...
Don't put it off. I was 51 and perfectly healthy so it seemed. I had cancer for years without knowing. Much longer and it would have been too late.

Almost 90%. And now even if your PSA is concerning they don't have to do biopsies anymore. There are blood tests which will give you a % of how likely you are to get PC. If the test come back a certain number and higher then bend over and scream. If not then the Doc will monitor your PSAS.

It's all about your PSA level. If it's too high, they will try antibiotics to treat any infection. If your PSA continues to rise, you're getting a biopsy. (Which is painless and minimally invasive these days)
That's the only way they'll know the Gleason score and all the other technical details.
Unfortunately, I'm pretty knowledgeable about this. And I was treated at the worlds most renowned medical center for cancer treatment.
Oh, and I'm an open book. I urge any of you to reach out to me if you have any questions. I'm extremely transparent about my experience and I share with men and women who have family members diagnosed all the time. I'm a Team Lead for a large organization so I have the opportunity to talk with folks all the time.

Yes… get screened . Please do not wait until age 50 if you have a family history. My husband diagnosed at the age of 45, and Thankfully , it was caught very early. Since I am in medical field , I inquired with primary what prompted her to check the PSA. Her reply ? Honestly it was likely a “ slip of the pen checking off labs” . We both were shocked and agreed we had rather be “lucky than good “ . Now 17 years later remains cancer free .

Yes!!! Thank you for sharing!'
Like I said, I was 51 when found just doing a checkup and lab work. Likely had cancer growing for years so I was more like 45 when the cancer started.
Zero family history of prostate cancer and almost no cancer in my family history. 1 grandparent in her 80's got cancer.

And having a family history is usually the 1st question the Urologist ask so always get a blood test done at least once a year. Same with Colon.

Well, he was wrong. I think it's 1 out of 7 or something like that. Men are tested for prostate cancer and most test negative. So they DO NOT have prostate cancer.
When/if you ever get prostate cancer, it shows up in your bloodwork if you are being screened for prostate cancer.
So he was way off.

Well I guess we (the taxpayers) dodged a financial bullet. If there was justice, Freeze would be in Parchman and the taxpayers would be funding his cancer treatment. Unless he was out on parole. Not sure what the parole time is for sexual battery.

Here is my prostate story. As others have said please get checked and do it yearly. I have lost two people I was close with to prostate cancer.
My dad had prostate cancer. The doctors told him that something else would kill him before the prostate cancer would. They were correct several years later he died of stroke. I started getting mine checked in my 50?s. My PSA ran 2 for years. Turned 65 and it jumped to 6. Went to a urologist and recommended biopsy the prostate. He took 12 individual biopsies. Of the 12 biopsies 6 came back cancer. On a scale of 1-10 and 1 being least cancerous 4 of my 6 cancerous biopsies were a 6. Two of the of the 6 were a 8.
Went back to urologist and proceeded to tell me my options of treatment. The urologist appeared to be younger than me so I asked him if his dad was were I was what would he recommend his dad to do. The urologist told me that he would tell his dad to have the prostate surgically removed. He explained that if I chose the radiation method that if the cancer came back that surgically removing the prostate then did not have favorable outcomes. Two years ago I had my prostate robotically assisted removed. My PSA since has been 0.00. Yes I have urine leakage but minimal. I can live with the leakage as long I can stay cancer free.

In my opinion (which is nothing I know), you chose the correct option. I had the same surgery at MD Anderson. (robotic). Two years later I was back having radiation. But they always knew I would have to have the radiation. Biopsy after surgery showed tiny amounts of cancer cells on the surgery cut margin.
Man I'm glad you got screened!! Yours grew quickly! Sounds like you had a Gleason score of 8.
