The Sec is once again dominating the top 25 rankings. 10 teams in top 25, we came in at 15 this week. I remember when there were only a couple teams who cared about Sec baseball, and we were one of them in the very early 70's. I was in school when the Left Field became famous, cars and trucks use to pull up against the left field outfield fence. I think we were only school in America that had huge crowds back then. Fun times!

The SEC has become AA baseball basically.
The Nasty Bunch are ranked this week
Troy is ranked tomorrow
Oklahoma State this coming weekend just fell out of the Top 25
Missouri State was picked to win their conference
We are playing a tougher schedule this year like many of our fans wanted

I just continue to be amazed at the work Justin Parker is doing with the pitching staff. We had some issues with walks this past weekend but still only gave up 8 runs total. Sunday was the first time this year we have allowed more than 3 runs in a game. We would likely be sitting more like 4-3 right now rather than 6-1 if Foxhall was still here because Gotro's offense has been fairly unimpressive so far.

Parker's guys for the most part are staying healthier than Foxhall's plus we have a ton more talent on the mound than we had in 2023...but yes he is doing a very good job altho I question our choice of closer yesterday

I really believe we're just delaying the inevitable of Stone being moved to closer. It seems like we're just trying out a bunch of guys to see if it clicks and then we'll go to Stone once conference play begins.

I was also there in the 70’s. My story: I transferred to MSU from USM. I made it thru fall semester, it came spring semester and I told my buddies that I had made that I thought I would go home for the weekend coming up. My buddies asked if I was sick or something. They said you can’t go home it’s opening weekend of SEC baseball and furthermore you have a pickup truck. We want you to be at one of buddies apartment at 8:00 am Saturday mornings and they said don’t go out Friday night and get drunk and show up late. I thought it was crazy to be headed to a noon baseball game that early in the morning. I had gone to some baseball games when at USM and they only had Aprox 40 people at the games and most of them were girlfriends and parents of players.
I show up at 8:00am there were all my buddies and they were directing to back up to this guys door of his apartment, he had a ground floor apartment. They proceeded to unload this guys apartment into back of my truck. Table, chairs, couch, multiple huge ice chest, multiple grills. We pull up to left field and back up to dead center left field fence. We partied like it was 1999. Had the best times.

I think stone can handle 3/5 innings a weekend. And is more valuable eating innings that closing. He's not going to be Landon sims in that role. It remains to be seen who it will be. But the 3 guys that threw sat, McPherson, Davis and Williams were all impressive.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble on this one, no one will be Landon Sims in that role. Landon Sims' don't grow on trees. That kid had something you don't ever see. He had more of an aura than Holder and Papelbon combined.

Yeah I dont see Simmons as a closer at all. Williams looks like that guy to me. I want McPherson or maybe even Davis to get a chance as a SP

Really nice to see Cupp's maturation at the plate. I remember we had some on this board say he would be nothing more than a defensive player for us.

This my early thoughts as well. Still haven't seen enough of everyone yet. Still want to see Black. Thought he showed some stuff end of year. I think we can may have two good closers.

It's a good thing that only two guys are really below the Mendoza line and one of those hit pretty well this weekend.
Our offense is so different than last year. Just so much more versatility. We're going to see a lot of guys play. And I think you will be able to add Frei to your list of regulars soon.

IMO Stone's best role is a role similar to Chad Girodo or Ross Mitchell where he comes out of the bullpen and pitches 3-5 innings in relief.
We're in a weird spot because we are performing well on the mound but at the same time we don't really have very many really defined roles except for Pico starting on Saturday. We also have some guys we need to see more of and haven't even thrown a pitch yet this year. Pruitt and Siary are two of those guys that we need to see more of. I'm really glad Pruitt is starting tomorrow and I hope it goes well. There is a possibility we will see some freshmen starting in the SEC rotation by the end of the season and I think it's just as possible we may see Pruitt, Simmons, and Siary starting in the rotation as well or some combination thereof.
Our midweek schedule is interesting. It's USM, Troy, USM, and then Old Dominion and Nicholls in pre SEC play- so it's a pretty tough midweek schedule early. But then other than the Governor's Cup it really eases up quite a bit once SEC play starts. Memphis twice, UAB, Jackson State, Southern, and North Alabama. Samford is a solid team though. Anyway, those are some games that we can use to see a lot of arms and it will allow us to save some guys for the weekend in most cases.

I'm guessing that most years Lemonis is going to want at least two closers. Even with Landon Sims he was hesitant to pitch him twice most weekends. Last year we really had two with Hardin and Tyler Davis essentially. It's very conceivable we could sweep a SEC weekend and have three different guys earn saves.

He pitch him twice on a weekend bc Landon wouldn't pitch twice! Yes we protected him. But there were times he should have been available and he wouldn't even have his spikes on. He decided he wasn't pitching more than once on several occasions.
